I just watched it, if he caught it with his hands without jumping he gets a TD.

There's no way of telling what would or might happen. Landry might intercept that pass if hill keeps his stride.

You're telling me from that one shitty camera angle you're 100% certain he cost himself a td by jumping when he lands in a pile of 2 defenders?

....What else does your crystal ball tell you?

The ball placement was off and hill made an adjustment ad went and got it... Why are you bashing him for this? Was the only play our offense out together all scrimmage

He was hit in stride. By jumping up he gives the defenders time to catch up to him and make the stop.

Hitting a WR in stride means all that the WR has to do is run at the same speed in the same direction and stick his arms out, The ball should drop right over his shoulder into his outstretched hands or forearms.

Hill here is running a go just on the inside of the numbers, He beats Peterson easily and has nothing but space in front of him. When he turns to find the ball, he realizes it is slightly underthrown and inside, he has to slow and adjust his route towards the middle of the field ( where he knows a safety is coming ).

You're either trolling ( poorly ) or are really grasping at things Hill is doing poorly to back up your own opinions. This kind of thing is getting old.

    The angry mob of people who hate Hill for one reason or another really should do 1 of two things;
    - Avoid the topic, let people who want to talk about him talk, and wait for him to fail during the season to say "You told us so".
    - Accept that he may actually turn into a bright spot this season and start to give the kid some support.

I promise when I discuss Hill or any player on this board it is because I believe they have potential and or can help our team win. It has nothing to do with upsetting anyone, or trying to draw out an argument, or 'trolling' so to speak. I'm not 100% sure I can say this about people on the other side of the argument. ( particularly on this topic ). A pretty solid case of "if you don't have anything nice to say" except, I don't care if it's nice.. Just make it objective, and relative.

Plus, finding something wrong with the one of the better plays our offense put together just because it's a player you don't like is Childish.. If this was Kerley or Decker making this play I feel like some people would be probably be singing a different tune. We should be supporting the players who are stepping up.

To beat Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers and Tom Brady on the road in the playoffs with Mark Sanchez as your QB is not good coaching it's excellent coaching.

Rex gets the most out of his players and is one of the best defensive minds in the game. As a HC getting the most out of your players is half the battle... If anything Rex just needs a prolific OC to make them a contender.

Agree with the comment about the ceiling for the jet offense is middle of the pack....it's a defense 1st, offense 2nd team, bar none....

Now that combo can work and we have seen many examples over several decades in football but the defense best be top 5 and at least as effective as the 2009 version.

That's not true, Landry was trailing on the play…..Hill had split the two like the Red Sea and was not in position that either of them could turn back "upfield" to deliver the blow….no, it would've been an alongside shot at best--Hill had separation and was more a threat to split the two and take it the distance. Granted the 'jump' kept him from snatching-on-the-fly, but Landry wasn't deep enough (was more in 'chase' position) to pick it, not even close.

Agreed, It would have to be a hell of a play by Landry on this particular occasion, But you can imagine an instance where meeting that ball rather then waiting for it to come to him could stop an interception. My whole point was that the ball placement caused the adjustment in his route, Not him just being super awkward. If the ball was placed correctly, farther and on the outside shoulder, It would have been trivial for Hill to turn it into a TD. If he missed at that point I would be the first,.. well maybe not the first, but I would agree that he could have done better.

Long story short; I have no problem with the way he made that play. It was safe, This is the preseason.

We clearly have different interpretations of the same play. I have no horse in this race, if I watched it and felt the ball was under thrown id say it. Based on that angle the ball was thrown perfectly in stride, by jumping up Hill made himself available for tackle. I have no reason to hate Hill, that's your crutch, cut it out. ALL Jets fans want Hill to succeed and I doubt anyone hates him.

Ball is slightly under throw, Hill makes a bit too much if an adjustment.

Not really that put off by the play.

It's early. They'll get on the same page.

In a vacuum the play is probably never even discussed. But this us the type of poor adjustment and catching technique we've seen time and time again from hill. So yea people are going to point it and discuss it no matter how many times Ajitator tells us we should shut up and leave Stephen hill alone. I thought that was rather funny btw.

When I see a poster unwilling to acknowledge that it makes me wonder what there motivation is. it's especially odd when they tell people they shouldn't talk about it. lolz

But this is exactly the problem with Stephen Hill. While you say it's preseason, and that to say he turns it into a touchdown is trivial might be true, but it's the overall technique of the way he approaches trying to catch the football.

He doesn't have an overwhelming amount of catches so most all of them can be found on youtube on top of what we see during training camp and such. It's all consistent with the fact that he makes it a point to try to put himself into position to pin the ball into his chest or midsection at all costs because he doesn't trust his hands at all.

The problem with this is that many say that he has the prototypical skill set to be a deep threat receiver. Unless he's grabbing a ball from a great deep thrower like Flacco or Roethlisberger, most deep ball receivers have the ability to track the ball and adjust themselves into position to go up and high point a ball over a smaller corner.

Even if it's not high pointing a ball, locating the ball while in stride and being able to catch it in an over the shoulder or leaping manner is important. Balls are often thrown with air under them so that a receiver can extend his arms and lunge or dive under the ball without much help from the body. This is Hill's problem. His alligator arms on literally every single damn type of play are going to make him a somewhat ineffective deep ball receiver because it takes a perfect pass that he can basket catch or else there's literally no chance for him to make the reception.

This video is a very good example of two of the better deep threats in the league and how they use their arms to extend so they can run other the ball rather than leaping into it like Hill does so he can suck the ball into his chest with his forearms.

Not that we need him to be either of these two explosive receivers, but he's never shown a flash of any of this despite his impeccable measurables that everyone talks about outside a couple big plays in camp scrimmages.

The problem isn't ow he catches the football, it's more specifically how he competes for it. He's not aggressive enough and doesn't place himself in a good position. He's only good when he fully beats the CB, not in a 1 on 1 fight for the ball. This limits his deep threat ability. If you watch some of McDougle's highlights, he actually goes up against Stephen Hill and owns him from the line of scrimmage.

This is a very good point and exactly the problem with his coveted deep threat ability. He gets pressed and owned at the line of scrimmage on a press which doesn't give him the ability to beat the corner before the pressure comes down on the quarterback.

That and the fact that corners are so athletic even despite being shorter than the receivers, that he doesn't really have the fortitude to compete for a ball because of his poor positioning.

  20. But why get caught up in what Hill doesn't do well & completely shun what he does do? You guys are going around & around complaining about a play he made that was literally the biggest offensive play of the scrimmage.Nobody is crowning the guy but sheesh talk about superficial.I've watched this offense desperately lack a deep threat for years. The team has someone who can actually get separation & pull a few in deep yet everybody wants to complain about where he jumped or his positioning.Fact is he made the play.He made the catch. When it comes to this franchise beggars cant be choosers.

We've already gone back & forth on this issue.I dont wanna beat a dead horse. But It's like you're taking Hill's scouting report & zooming in on the negatives.Hes not calvin johnson. No one is ever gonna call him a great technician..but if he can consistently get separation & make a few plays downfield a game who gjves a crap about style points? A useful weapon is a useful weapon.Production is production.

There are plenty of Olinemen that are"grabbers" who dont use proper technique or leverage..some have even made pro bowls.Do you think fans of those franchises should complain if a guy effectively blocks robert quinn off the edge just bc he didnt block by the book? Theres more than one way to skin a cat.Same applies here
