Why, because "he can't catch anything"? I just intercepted your joke. I want to see Hill be decent. He'll never be great, but I want him to stay healthy this year and catch 40 balls for 600 yards. It was not nice to hear that fans are booing him sometimes at practice- we should support him.
He's on the right side of age, length, leap, speed, blocking, and character. not very fluid, injury prone, sketchy route running, undependable hands, and doesn't position his body well enough to attack the football in the air. I still have cautious stock though. While i don't see him as a possession receiver moving the chains, i'm hoping he can emerge into a deep threat opposing defenses need to account for, making the occasional big play. we have good possession receivers, but don't really have that big deep threat. so if he can just be good as that type of role player, as well as blocking in the run game, i'd sign up for that!
We'll see. This year is pretty much prove it or lose it year for him. I have no doubt he'll be better than last year, but that isn't saying much. I have hopes that he's going to turn it around, and he can be the deep threat we drafted him for. 2nd year in the system with Geno, 3rd in the league, his time is now. I'm rooting for the kid to turn it around because it's the best thing that could possibly happen on the team this year (aside from Geno having a breakout year of course). It'll be interesting going forward.
I was never willing to give up on him after last year. I think the Jets handled him perfectly though after his performance.. He got off to a pretty good start last year and then just disappeared. I still think the talent is there. Hopefully the Jets can get it out of him. He's big and fast and has shown glimpses. The right thing to do was to bring in competition and make him beat people out for a spot on the team, which so far, he appears to be doing.
He disappeared because opposing teams watch tapes and develop strategies. If teams play physical, I don't think he can perform. Which is why he shines in preseason.
And if we have someone who the coaching staff deems better then him, Hill won't be on the roster hopefully. I'm not saying your wrong, my basic point is that he should have to beat out other players in TC, if he does , then he's earned his spot. I trust the CS to be able to judge whether or not his play will translate over to the regular season.
They need to get Miyagi to work some magic on those knees. Or maybe he can get some stem cells injected into them like CJ2K. He has the tools but he needs to get those knees healthy. Then he can focus on catching, routes, etc. Not trying to make excuses for him and if he's healthy he better produce. If he's not healthy or doesn't produce he's gone.
All indications are that his knees are a lot better, He looks way more fluid then he did at any point last season. At one point in drills the twatter sphere had him and Kerley as the 2 smoothest looking WRs doing a cut drill... We just need those knees to stay healthy and I think he has a chance to really surprise some people this year.... And if he does... Hill, Kerley, and Decker is a young core of WRs that will go a long way with the other young talent we have.
I've seen all of this "camp-superstar" stuff with Hill before - I'll believe he can perform in an actual season when I see it.
Hill is just a prototypical WR in size and speed... However injuries and concentration catching the football at nfl speed he struggles.. If a light bulb goes off he could be good.. Odds are against that at this point though
I have given up on, Hill. Yet, I feel this is the best he has done in camp to date. He is still healthy, if he can remain healthy I think he might still have a chance. I want to be wrong about this guy so badly. So badly.
Yes, but only bcuz he has the physical assets. He's not nearly competitive enough to be a #1 receiver, but he'll make the catch if he can beat the CB. That is...if he's healthy. Both seasons he was plagued with injury. Those injuries prevented him from beating the CB often...therefore he was unable to use his one asset to even get open. Story could be different this year if he can make it without injury. < Thats a big if though.
It's wait and see with Hill, as it is with all the Jets at this point. The reports from Saturday's scrimmage were not encouraging. I heard Hill made one good play, but after that...meh. I honestly believe this will be the trend for the Jets this coming. One step forward...one step backward.
