Very impressive day for Stephen Hill it looks like. I won't put much stock into it though because he was doing this last TC.
loved hearing Hill, Ford, Patterson and Folk's names being highlighted in today's practice! between Hill and Ford, we need a legit deep threat. we also need a true starting CB back there, and winning/losing a few games will be up to Folk's leg again. other than all the red jersey's out there, seems like a very positive practice (Cimini will turn it into a Milliner bashing lol)..
Nelson fell causing the INT and I think there was a drop. Plus those are only 11 on 11 stats I believe.
I don't think we saw as much last year as we've been hearing. He's definitely putting up better days consistently, We saw some progress and some good days last TC but it seems like he's both not being mentioned negatively and performing well on a day to day basis this year. Lets all hope it translates to the field.
I seem to remember him on the bike almost every practice to the point that Rex got really angry about it and called Hill out in the press conference.
http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424127887323997004578640331708597090 I specifically remember him connecting to Geno Smith last year on several occasions, many thought he had better chemistry with Geno then Sanchez. Please don't make up excuses for Hill.
This is a lot of what I remember as well and him being limited in snaps because of his knee... I just went back and tried to collect what we heard from him last TC though it's not very easy to find. From ESPN - http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/tag/_/name/training-camp-2013 From Elsewhere - Stephen Hill has sat out the Jets' first two OTA sessions with swelling in his surgically-repaired right knee. - May 22, 2013 Stephen Hill is still having issues with his surgically-repaired right knee. - June 5, 2013 Jets WR Stephen Hill has been struggling with drops throughout summer. - June 12, 2013 Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley were two of ESPN New York's Rich Cimini's three "duds" of minicamp. - June 13, 2013 Jets WR Stephen Hill will be on a rep count when training camp starts. - July 13, 2013 According to ESPN New York, second-year WR Stephen Hill is "having a nice camp" after a drop-filled spring. - July 28, 2013 The Jets desperately need Hill to emerge as a sophomore, so this will be significant if he carries it over into regular season games. During Sunday's practice, Hill caught a 50-yard touchdown bomb from Geno Smith. Ideally, speedsters Hill and Braylon Edwards will threaten defenses deep, giving the Jets room to run up front. Otherwise, they'll face constant eight-man boxes. Stephen Hill had four receptions for 54 yards in Saturday night's preseason game against the Giants. - Aug 24, 2013 Hill caught all four of his targets, but fumbled and was called for a personal foul in the second-half. While the Jets are counting on him to make a significant jump in his second season, Hill continues to make too many mistakes to be trusted as anything more than a late-round flier. He left Saturday's game with a wrist injury, but is considered day to day after an MRI ruled out structural damage. So,.. Minicamp he stunk, He improved in TC, and then played decently in the preseason game. I think we're seeing more consistency from him then we've seen in the past,.. Again though.. it has to translate to the field, Tomorrow, Next Thursday, and for the rest of the season. Here's hoping.
Any chance we can get you to post the full story ( or at least the except on Hill)? Apparently have to subscribe to get content from WSJ.
If you're a glass is half full kinda person, then Milliner getting beat by Hill multiple times today could be a good thing. It's better that Milliner learn from his mistakes now, rather than mid-Season.
While I recall hearing generally positive things about how Hill had improved at this time last year I don't recall too many specifics like today. Not that any of this means anything until he shows he can deliver in games against someone other than Buffalo.
IMO the whole 'against buffalo' thing is overblown; The injuries thing is not. Hill started off the year on a really good note and then was slowed by injuries ( Concussion, foot, knee ) before ultimately being put on the IR week 12. Through the first 3 games last season before he got concussed in week 4: 13/23 - 233 yards - 1TD. Extrapolated over 16 games is a pretty solid season for any WR, let alone one with a rookie QB on one of the worst offenses in the league. Not at all saying this is what would have happened but just to put his start of the season in perspective; 70/123 ( 56% ) - 1242 yds - 5TDs Really he just needs to stay healthy for the year and I think we'll all be a lot happier with him in general.
Unrelated; We're still seeing a lot of soft tissue injuries here in camp ( though most of them appear to not be all that serious ). With the way that we lost people last season you'd think they would put more emphasis on strength and conditioning. Guess it's a good thing we have more depth this year.
I think we are also more cautious with soft tissue injuries than some other teams. Plus we only hear about major injuries from other camps
Hmm strange, can't get the article now for some reason - may have been a glitch in the system but that was pretty much the summary of the article.
If extra training camp reps tired him out then something is majorly wrong. You say rough day for miliner. I say good day for Stephen Hill, which is far more important IMO.
It seems like there is a disproportionate emphasis on one OT two players every year in TC . Two years ago it was Tebow. Last year it was Sanchez/Smith. This year it is Hill. I'd like to hear more about the other 60 or so players who may make the team. There's not enough discussion on the DBs ( other than DM) or the rookie receivers. How is Saunders doing? I don't have a clue. How does Coples look? Babin? I could go on and on. Instead, we hear about every Hill catch and drop and we get day QB stats . Typical beat writer BS.
