Actually he was better than that. But I still don't care for the dude. I' m not here to make internet enemies. I just don't like what I see of him as a QB, leader, etc.
But what a sensitive bunch of kiddies. You disagree with their beloved messiah and they turn on you like children of the corn.
Even if Eugene gets this team to the playoffs, its meaningless. This team's strength is its defense. Sanchez led the Jets to back to back AFC championship games.
    Didn't mean squat....he still sucked.

I agree with Namath, NOTHING to me is outstanding about Eugene.

I don't think you understand anything. You came here looking for enemies and found them, then tried to have battles, but you weren't really good at it.

Come on, Ozzie. Try to be a human being for a minute. You don't like EUGENE. What's your view of the 2014 Jets?

Well I really didn't come here looking for enemies. I was just making MY point that I don't care for Smith for numerous reasons. Then I get attacked for my viewpoint.
What am I supposed to do ? Roll over? I've been a Jet fan going back to when Joe Willie first was drafted. You ask me for MY view and anytime I give it I am put down, harassed,
cursed at and labeled a troll. So be it.
Since you're playing nice, my view is The Jets will make the playoffs in 2014 regardless of who the QB is. I think they even have a shot at surprising some in the football world if Vick
stays healthy. If Smith remains as the QB, its a repeat of Sanchez...close but no cigar. There are so many interesting intangibles with this team....and so may disappointments
I'd rather not get into right now. On a positive note, things are looking up on an overall basis and moving in the right direction. Again, I am a Jet fan through and through.
I have NEVER missed a Jet game on tv ever since I first saw Joe Willie in his white shoes.

You're convincing me a bit, there's emotion in there. But you are too consumed by the quarterback position.

Almost exclusively. Why do you think the Jets could surprise?

Well you got me there. Its my distaste for Smith that has me rambing. Guilty as charged. But I am consumed by the QB position because just look at the list ... O'Brien, Todd, Nagle, Pennington, Booomer, Robinson, Sanchez, O'Donnell
Not exactly a top 10 list.
We haven't had a decent QB since Namath. And when we do get a reprieve in Testarverde, he tears his Achilles.
Yes you can win with a scrub QB and a top flight defense. But damn its sweet to have a gunslinger like Fouts, Bert Jones, Farve, Elway etc.
So yea I am consumed about the QB position, especially since the Jets have had such scrubs manning the position. Its the most important position in football, especially in today's NFL.
But Rex has tricks up his sleeve and his defense is getting back into form. Its young, faster, and more experienced. And we've added depth and playmakers.
It should be a very very interesting team.

You lost me again, ozzie. It's obvious that you can't talk about any position but QB. That's boring and unproductive. Do you have anything left to offer but that?

Yea I gotta let that go. The universe has its own plan. Love the defense Rex has regenerated. And if the offense can just control the ball and rest the D, we can win 10 games easy.
Time for zzzzzzzzzzzz. GO JETS GO

We've had decent. Hell, even Sanchez can't be blamed for the brutal loss to the Steelers in the AFC Champ game.

That was all top flight defense.

Sanchez folded in front of every "in your face" defense the Jets faced. When the Jets could hide him and win against a good defense they did that. Otherwise they lost.

I will admit that about half the games Geno played last year he SUCKED. Throwing interceptions, holding the ball way too long, not reading defenses, inaccurate throws. nor seeing the open man etc. He played like a damn ROOKIE. Oh wait... he was a rookie. The last four games he played I saw a different QB. A much better QB. I cannot believe how many fans want him gone. We have to give Geno one more year. With the new weapons he has and with one year of experience behind him we will see a very solid QB. If he sucks in 2014 then we can move in another direction.

    just saw this.
ftr record i haven't stated whether i agree or disagree. i was originally pointing out how douchy and immature you seem when you use someones full name as a derogatory connotation.
Now you go on to dismiss any success the team may have this year as being credited to the defense only before anything has played out. which means you have already predetermined what geno will always be in your mind. therefore there is really no sense at all in attempting to have any form of intelligent conversation with you on the subject. i will consider any other posts you make about geno as troll fodder and address it as such as i feel the need to'.
    that is all

Well I guess I should be disappointed but I'm not. So sorry. I make fun of Geno and call him Eugene because I just think he sucks. Same with Sanchez who I used to call Suckchise.
When I look at Geno Smith I see the reincarnation of Mark Sanchez. Some promise, lousy leader too many flaws in his game, ultimately both extremely overrated.
Bottom line, my contention is he will never amount to much. The guy just wreaks of unearned arrogance.

That's pretty funny - I don't think Geno is a God-send neither, but he's def not the reincarnation of Sanchez.
    - Rookies are expected to be leaders in their first year?
    - How are you overrated when you're ranked dead last in the majority of the QB rankings?

Me thinks you are an impatient Jet fan that wants results out of the gate. I also see you don't know how the game works.

Impatient? Lets see. Been watching the Jets since 1967. 1 Super Bowl win , a few playoff wins, watching the Pats win the division damn near ever year for the last 10 years....
so yea I guess that qualifies me as being impatient. And yes there are numerous QB's who showed leadership qualities in their first year. Newton, Marino, Wilson, Manning, Luck, Dalton,
Flacco, Roethlisberger, Ryan, and my favorite Robert Griffin III.
Eugene is overrated being he is already being proclaimed the starter without having ever earning it.
He is overrated because Idzik didn't draft another young QB to compete against him.
As far as your last point...... think, think, think.

    1) Newton showed plenty of immaturity his rookie year. He was not the leader of that team. He put up stats but led them to a 6-10 record
    2) Peyton Manning threw plenty of interceptions his first 2 years. It took him time as well to progress.
    3) Dalton? How well does he do in the playoffs? He's stunk up the joint. He doesn't lead by example.
    4) Flacco? The guy couldn't lead his team to a playoff win until 2 seasons ago. It took him time to mature as well. He was not a leader

There are exceptions to the rule, but stars aren't made over night. It takes time - maybe you should give Geno another year and see how things go instead of bashing him. Geno had a bad rookie year but he didn't give up and he showed progress at the end.

You should think, think, think. Elite QBs don't fall out of the sky.

    Bite on this....
    1. Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers, 2011)Cam Newton blew everyone's mind as a rookie in 2011, shattering records and re-setting the bar for what a rookie quarterback could be. He set the following rookie records (via Wikipedia):
    • Most passing yards by a rookie in a game (432), September 18, 2011 vs. Green Bay Packers
    • Most passing yards by a rookie in a season (4,051)
    • First rookie in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in back to back games, September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals and September 18, 2011 vs. Green Bay Packers
    • First rookie in NFL history to throw for 10 touchdowns and run for 10 touchdowns in a season.
    • Fourth rookie quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season.
    • Third most pass TDs (21) in a rookie season.
    • Most total touchdowns by a rookie NFL player: 35 (21 pass, 14 rush)
    • Most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback: 706
    • Most rushing touchdowns by a rookie quarterback: 14
    • Along with Andy Dalton, the two make the first pair of rookie QB's to make the Pro Bowl
All of which raise the expectations for Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III.
A quarterback has won the Rookie of the Year award just six times ‒ and five of those have come in the last eight years. The way rookie quarterbacks are handled has changed. No longer is a top rookie expected to sit and learn for a year or two; they're thrown into the fire immediately, and more is expected of them. It's more of a pressure cooker now, but there's also a way better chance to succeed right away.

    And this

    4. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts, 1998)Charlie Batch's numbers might look better, but Peyton Manning still had the best year among rookie quarterbacks in 1998. He was more error prone, especially early on, but he was just so much more ambitious. He threw the ball 575 times and had over 3,700 yards, with 26 TDs. There were 28 interceptions, too, but most of them came very early in the season. In his first four games, he had three touchdowns and 11 interceptions. From Week 5 through the end of the season, he had 23 TDs against 17 INTs

    8. Joe Flacco (Baltimore Ravens, 2008)All Joe Flacco did in his rookie year was compile a record of 11-5 and lead the Ravens to the AFC Championship game. He also hit the 60 percent completion mark, and had more TDs than interceptions, and ended up being named the Rookie of the Year. The only blip was in Baltimore's last game of the season, the AFC championship game in Pittsburgh, which is not an ideal scenario for a rookie QB. Pittsburgh killed him, forcing him into a 13-of-30, 0 TD, 3 INT performance.
