It was a little mean, but at the same time if I am being honest, it's a pretty accurate statement. Boyd sucks. He wasn't that good in college in had extremely overinflated numbers because he had Watkins and an overall great receiving core. At the same time though he was chosen in the supplemental pick part of the 6th round (basically a 7th rounder). The Jets took a flyer on him because Rex's kid goes to Clemson and he liked Boyd as a person. If they took him anywhere higher then that pick I would have been pretty pissed but at that point in the draft, every single team is just taking shots in the dark and you pretty much have a 1/25 chance of finding a quality player. The list of QB's in NFL history taken in the 6th or 7th rounds, or undrafted that went on to have solid (not even great) careers can be counted on two hands, maybe one. Every single team except for the Cowboys, Patriots, Bucs, Browns, and Texans have starting QB's that were taken in the 1st three rounds, and most are 1st round picks.

The bottom line is that you have about a 3 - 4 percent chance of finding a great player in the 6th or 7th rounds, but finding a great QB in those rounds is closer to 1/2 percent, maybe lower.

So Boyd has led his previous team to a playoff win, been turned into a punt protector and a run only option in the wildcat? Come on Cimini, you can't compare the two players until Rex has had a chance to fuck Boyd's career like he did with Tebow. One of Rex's biggest faults is sticking with favorites all the way to the bitter end like he did with Sanchez and Holmes. I am not saying Tebow would have been any better than Mark, but he wasn't given the opportunity either.

    Didn't Boyd come highly recommended?

Still wish we would have taken Aaron Murray, I think of all the late round QBs he looked like by far the best NFL prospect. I don't see Boyd becoming anything in the league.

You forgot that Tebow ruined his own career by not being an NFL level quarterback. 32 teams agree and you can't blame that on Ryan.

    By who, Rex's son? Heh.

I doubt Boyd sticks. Sounds like Simms came to camp well prepared and has been playing well. At this point it looks like he will stay. Meanwhile Boyd threw three interceptions on Wednesday.

For that we should be thankful. Hopefully next year, Rex will leave the draft recommendations to the professionals on the payroll.

So far, it's too bad about Boyd. When you you think about it, though, the pick fits in with the new philosophy of players pushing other players per position. So with this reasoning, you got Boyd to push Simms and Vick to push Geno etc. So the Jets ARE a team heading to greatness with the gems Idzik's picked up in offseason. Big cause to get an optimistic mojo going........

Geno has his silver platter of players and is thanking Jets by working hard!

I love the mantra of competition. Don't get that twisted ok? Rex needs to let the pros in the scouting dept. do their jobs. If Rex's kid has a recommendation, all well and good but if the pros have another pick in mind at that point, go with the pros instead.

Boyd may turn out to be serviceable, but with the Qb's available in the last draft, I have a feeling the Boyd pick will be a wasted pick. I don't know who was left on the board at that point but I just have a nagging suspicion that we may have simply thrown a draft pick in the trash because Rex put more faith in his kid's recommendation than was warranted.

They should just put Boyd on the PS and move on unless they really hate Simms and honestly, there's something about Simms the CS does not like. I have no idea what that could be but it certainly appears that something just doesn't sit right with Ryan & Co. when it comes to Matt Simms.
