This!!!! I was waiting for a balanced response about the line, the jets were the 6th rushing team in the NFL because the line did a good job of holding their blocks an allowing ivory to get through those holes. A bad oline would have allowed the penetration at the point of attack more times than not and there is no way this team is 6th overall in rushing. IMO it was Eugene who made the oline look bad in their pass blocking. He held the ball too long, did not go through reads fast enough, and instead of running the ball and taking what was there he took unnecessary sacks. I think the oline with a competent QB(Vick) will help this team be explosive in the passing attack. JMO
Not blaming. Just saying that one can help out the other. Of course Geno improving his play can make up for some lesser play on the O-Line. Chicken and egg like you said. But it starts upfront, our best teams over the last couple of years have had some really really good O-Lines.
Sanchez had Mangold calling his coverages in 2009 and 2010. This was common knowledge. But the Jets succeeded in the clutch, because Sanchez went to his coaches and pled for impact plays. Geno can do this. I believe in him. But he's going to have to learn to read a defense if he's going to put his offense in position to succeed. I'm not saying that he needs to be an elite QB, but I think that since he has a mentor that knows this system, he needs to make strides. Fast.
It's his name, Mark was called all kind of names, some good and some were stereotypical, I did not see anyone come to his defense about his name. My post was that bad that the only thing you got from it was Eugene's name? Wow , I have to work on my posts.
You know what? I agree with you. I saw Sanchez called Taco, Nacho, and many other names that were basically racist, but people justified it by stating that Bart Scott said it. If anyone had made even a passing remark that could be construed as racist toward Geno, they would have been banned immediately. There are far too fucking many double standards when it comes to racism. By the way, I stuck up for Sanchez. Nobody gave a shit because apparently Mexican Americans aren't human beings.
Haven't heard much from this Pantale guy - I'll def check that out. Here goes nothing... Offense [25] QB - 3 [Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms] *Boyd to Practice squad RB / FB - 5 [Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell, Daryl Richardson, Tommy Bohanon*] * I like the other FB as well, but Bohanon can catch, block and run. WR - 6 [Decker, Nelson, Kerley, Stephen Hill, Jacoby Ford, Jalen Saunders] *Evans / Enunwa gets put on the practice squad TE - 3 [Amaro, Cumberland, Sudfeld] *Pantale continues to improve, he will be on the practice squad. OT - 3 [Brick, Breno, Oday Aboushi(plays T and G)] OG - 3 [Colon, Winters, Dozier, Oday Aboushi] Center - 2 [Mangold, Freeman] * Ijalana = Practice squad Defense [24] D-line - 5 [Wilkerson, Richardson, Snacks, Ellis, Douzable] Linebackers - 8 [Harris, Demario, Coples, Babin, Barnes, Nick Bellore, Trevor Reilly, Troy Davis ] Corners 7 [Milliner, Walls, Patterson, Wilson, McDougle, Lankster, Ras-I Dowling] Safeties 4 [Pryor, Allen, Landry, RONTEZ MILES] Special Teams [3] Folk, Quigley, Purdum I really wanted to make sure there was youth for Special Teams. This is mine so far. Can I have a beer now?
I don't think its sky or sewer. The way Idzik is building this team with youth, speed, low cost draft picks, and depth, I think you hope for incremental improvement year by year. This looks like an 8-9 win team again to me, which would not mean they did not improve. It depends how you get to to those wins and losses. Last year the Jets won a lot of close games and got blown out more than I can remember in many of their losses. The schedule appears tougher on paper, especially the first 8 games. I really don't see more than 10 wins and I can't see this team losing more than 10 games even if Smith falls apart with Vick as a back up unless the entire team is racked with injuries. I think the offense and defense both improve, but the schedule may result in another 8-8 season.
Considering the jets have made it to the afccg more times them they won the division. I'd say its a big accomplishment.
I think the absolute floor for this team is 7 wins, and ceiling is 12. - Our Defensive Line last year was so dominant that they carried the Jets to an 8 win season. Our Secondary sucked. Our LB's were below average. Our Passing Game was awful. Our Running Game was ok, but it's number were a little inflated just by the sheer number of times they ran compared to most teams. With our our D-Line this team MAYBE wins 4 games last year. - No matter who is replacing Cromartie, it won't be worse. He graded out as one of the worst 5 starting corners in the league last year. Just absolutely awful. No matter who replaces him it will be anywhere from a little better to alot. Pryor at the very least will make our secondary a little better. - The Jets ENTIRE team last year had 266 receptions. The Browns had 379. The Vikings had 325. The Bills had 299. The Texans had 351. The Jaguars had 339. The Jets had the least number of receptions in the NFL, and it wasn't even close. The most awful teams in the league were still pulling in more then 300. If this Jet team last year added 55 pass completions and just were in the bottom 10 in the league, they would have easily won 10, and maybe even taken the division. Now you add an 87 reception guy in Decker, and a 40 reception guy in Chris Johnson and we could legitimately be talking 340+ receptions for the year, which combined with our defense would lead to the Jets steamrolling nearly half of our schedule. - Geno will be better. Maybe a little, maybe a lot. Probably somewhere in between. The only lock though is that he will get better. The question though is just how much. - Turnover Differential. -14 = 8-8. Those numbers make zero sense. The odds of a team turning the ball over nearly once more then their opponent in nearly every game for a year, and still going 8-8 is close to zero. Here's a little comparison too of turnover differentials. Bills +3 = 6-10. Browns -8 = 4-12. Raiders -9 = 4-12. Dolphins -2 = 8-8. Steelers -4 = 8-8. Chiefs +18 = 11-5. The Chiefs had a +32, 2 freaking turnovers a game better differential then the Jets and won only 3 more games. Teams like the Dolphins and Steelers had the same record as us and had close to an even number. Awful teams like the Browns and Raiders STILL had a much better differential, which finally leads me to my point. If the Jets can cut down on the turnovers by only 7 on offense, which still means Geno throws about 16 INT's, and the Defense can pick up 7 more turnovers, which is only 1 every 140 plays, then the Jets will be a legitmate Super Bowl contender, this year. The ceiling is pretty fucking high if you ask me, because this D-Line is so dominant that it litterally wins the Jets as many games as atleast a dozen teams do in a season. If everyone else just plays solid ball, then we are looking it perhaps the best Jets team in 25 years.
That's why I'm glad Denario Davis started to put the brakes on that s**t. It's okay to be confident but all the proclamations were bordering on team-wide overconfidence. And yes I agree with the premise of the post, this season definitely has a 'all or nothing' feel to it. Not so much that all's the Super Bowl, for me playoffs is a successful year atm - I don't think this is a title team just yet. And anything that ends in embarassment and Rex getting fired is the potential disaster. Our retooled secondary facing all those great QB's in the first half of the season's going to be a MAJOR test though...
This is basically what I've been seeing (and saying) for two years. Add in some 1st downs and you have a formidable team. The Jets are their own worst enemy.
I don't know how the team's record will turn out...but there's certain potential that this will be the best Jets offense since '08 or even before that. Jets have the most weapons on offense in Rex Ryan era. RB depth is still mindblowing. CJ, Ivory, AND Bilal Powell....and not to mention Daryl Richardson who has a nice record with Rams and has been looking good.
Wow hats pretty pessimistic....even for me. I say it all hinges on how fast Rex plugs Vick into the starting role. The schedule is BRUTAL. We could easily start 1-4 or 2-3. Smith will probably play a bit better at beginning but it wont be enough to overcome the tough comp we face early on. Enter Vick and we can squeak into the playoffs...if he stays healthy. Overall we are faster, deeper, more talented and more experienced and more used to each other. The secondary can ONLY be better than last year. Cro was horrific last year. Milliner was horrific for 3/4 of year and came on strong. Pryor is a monster. And we added depth everywhere. The Oline, the LB's, RB, WR's TE's lots of new talent young and experienced. Key is Rex. Will he have the balls to swing it and go with an experienced vet at QB rather than a rook who should still be on the bench.
Sky or sewer are pretty extreme. My opinion is the Jets are making great strides and our FO finally seems to have its act together but our schedule this year looks like a gauntlet of pain that a developing team isn't going to be ready for. I'm expecting single digit wins and I'm expecting the media to unfairly tar and feather us for it without any context for who we've had to play. If we don't beat the Chicago Bear tier teams on our schedule, it might go real bad. Definitely can't afford to lose games we should win this season, and we're going to have to do great against the Bills and the Phins
