I saw Ebron, he looks bottom heavy (thighs) with narrow shoulders. My first thought was he doesn't have a football body. It may be meaningless if all he's going to do is catch passes and not block but I don't see him blocking well.

Secondary was the big question mark this offseason, but damn, apparently they are looking really good. They had a feeding frenzy today at practice.

Richardson was quoted saying, "a lot of man hours went into the defense and it finally is coming together".

There will be at least one guy on the team that orders a puke flavored pizza at the bowling alley. Pineapple is the worst thing to ever happen to a slice.

Listen man.. You got to learn how to read between the lines.

MM is saying the same things as he did last year before the pads came on, this is nothing new. Again, this is not the same level of praise as other receivers get on this team. Hill has literally had two games, average games at that, where he stood out for this team. He has not shown that he has true ability to play in this league, he just hasn't done it yet, so It is concerning to me to not hear his coaches say things like..

"Hill, is really come on now. I think it's finally starting to click, we'll see how he stacks up with some of these other receivers at the end of the season."

"Hill has come leaps and bounds from where he was, it's actually interesting , but this type of thing happens all of the time. I think he's finally getting it together. We feel confident that he is going to be who we thought we had when we drafted him."

Nothing remotely close is being said like that, you don't get that reassured feeling from this coaching staff like you do with the other top three receivers on this team. You just don't.

You hear things like he's looking impressive in the off-season, he looks stronger, we gotta keep him healthy and see what we have here, yada, yada...

Those are not comments of certainty and we have heard most of this same drivel in prior seasons. Nothing new.

So with that being the case, I am not confident that Hill will put it together in time to keep his job on this team. I'm not certain he will ever have the ability to play in this league.

Again, I hope I am dead wrong. I as others have eluded to, would be more than happy to eat crow on this issue.

I'm only speaking from a perception that I'm getting from what I hear from this coaching staff in comparison to other players on this team. I'm look at Hill's overall body of work, it's not good. I mean there is a lot of factors working against the kid.

I am one of the people that likes to listen to Mike Westhoff more than he likes to listen to himself. He didn't really make any groundbreaking statements, but he confirmed a lot of what I was already thinking.

I don't disagree with what you're saying but at the same time he has shown flashes and ability. He got absolutely cleaned out week 4 last season and wasnt the same player after that, Something Marty eluded to with injuries.

I've said it before; The biggest problem Stephen Hill has had is health. His knees giving out his rookie year and then what I think was him trying to return to early ( even though he had a pretty solid camp last year he was still limited by his knees ) in his sophomore year. I'm hoping we get a different beast this year with 100% health and 2 seasons of learning under his belt.

Most of the indications out of camp so far ( other then those tallying his drops ) is that he's showing a lot of improvement in his physicality and route running. Something he struggled with through his first 2 years.

I'm optimistic that this group of WRs ( including Hill ) will surprise people this year. Geno doesn't have the room to stumble like he did last season and we have a dependable if not injury prone backup chomping at the bit to get some playing time.

I was happy to hear what he said about Davis, since he coached him a bit. I suppose he would have a pretty good idea about his development, since he knows exactly where he started.

Adding another curveball to the WR depth chart is this groin thing with Nelson. Has anyone heard anything about how serious this is?

Coples, Davis, Questions in the secondary, Physical WRs - Sounds about right and really encouraging.

I like westy,.. Feel like he's a real straight shooter and won't sugar coat anything.

And you know Americans probably came up with the idea. Nobody from Hawaiʻi eats (or orders) pineapple on pizza.

  17. You can't just ignore 2 aspects of Hill's early struggles.

    1. Most young WRs struggle. There are alot of nuisances to the position & some guys just take longer than others. There are a laundry list of quality WRs from year's past that had even worse starts to their career than Hill who turned it on year 3

    2. Health. He was banged up for alot of his rookie season..and last season his knees were locking up from week 8 on which eliminated his ability to make breaks. If your stance is that he's a guy that will never stay healthy..well that might be a fair assertion but any other negative stance has to be taken w/ a grain of salt.

As for your thoughts on the coach's comments on Hill..I have alittle bit of a theory regarding that. I think they are deliberately going out of their way NOT to talk up Hill & to appear lukewarm yet optimistic as a way to motivate him. His first 2 years Rex & co. gushed about the guy's progress & his performance always seemed to taper off almost simultaneously.

The press has actually asked about Hill at many PC's dating back to mini camp.On more than one instance Rex has deflected those questions by either changing the subject or simply acknowledging Hill's presence along w/ every other WR on the roster. It didn't seem like a case of Rex being down or done w/ Hill..but rather trying to avoid stroking his ego in anyway. Only in the last week did Rex come out & compliment Hill for getting stronger "making alot of plays" thus far.

I haven't been out to TC but I avidly follow all TC coverage & it seems like every day Hill is making plays. Some will point out that he's been a TC darling in the past but I don't think it was ever this consistently. He was typically having one or two good sessions followed by disappearing for a few days. To my knowledge he's had a noteworthy catch in every session of camp thus far.

Let's see what he does in preseason action but everything looks encouraging at this stage.

    Jets Esq. Guest

His nickname is Third because he's Calvin Pryor III (aka Calvin Pryor the third, after his dad and grandfather). Third was his nickname growing up, before the basketball CP3.

    Skeptical? Check it out:

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. He had the nickname as a kid, independently of the basketball player, and it's fine for him to keep it in my opinion.
