http://www.hbo.com/documentaries/the-newburgh-sting#/ I figured a lot of posters are from or near the NY area, so the Newburgh, NY area should be familiar to a lot of you. This documentary hit the film festivals earlier but just got released to HBO. If you remember the terrorist plot to hit planes at Stewart airport and blow up synagogues in the Bronx, this doc follows that whole situation. It decides to follow the FBI involvement in making the plot, making the case, and then making the arrests. Very interesting look at how the case developed and how much planning was involved to make it the case it became. It's obvious to see what side the documentary is on (entrapment), but an interesting view in my opinion. I thought it was a well done and good look at how the plot developed. I would be interested to see what others think.
Legally, it was not entrapment- or they would've been acquitted. It was a sting. Entrapment is an affirmative defense, like self-defense.
Is there anyway to watch this? I am a Newburgh native and things were getting crazy up here at the time. (The FBI raided the entire city about a year after these guys got arrested).
I've seen it. It bothered me so much that I stopped viewing internet documentaries for a while. Especially after that kid got executed by the FBI following the Boston bombing investigations. People believe what they want to believe. No matter the logic behind it.
Interesting, didn't know that, thanks. I didn't legally know how entrapment works, but this felt like the FBI strung these guys along and were basically the people that planned, set up, paid, and executed the attempted attack.
