Really good points and counters by everyone on here. Bottom line is Smith will start regardless of what transpires. He is Idzik's boy. Its not only his job to lose, its his job period.....and if he massacres it a quarter way into the season, the Jets will still win with him or Vick at the helm. Their defense is just too good and has improved. If Smith screws up really badly, then Vick can ride in and save the day and make Idzik look like Captain Kangaroo. Naming a starter is irrelevant....its a done deal. All this does is sell newspapers, create 'interest', drama' etc etc. Ray Lucas stated naming a starter on Jet Nation has to happen soon. Not so sure I agree. Idzik, like Tanny, will string out Smith until he is run out of town like Sanchez was. For now, and even if Vick takes over, its Smith's team for a number of years to come.
I see no merit to this thread. The players aren't stupid they see how the reps are being distributed and how practice is being handled. They know who the starting QB is already .
OMG "string him out"?....if he wins then that's a nice string. More likely that Vick plays as soon as disaster beckons.
Too early. Let the preseason play out and officially name him after the 3rd preseason game. Also I want to see what Vick looks like in the first few preseason games. It's almost a foregone conclusion that Geno's going to start but let's see what Vick has left in the tank.
There used to be a minimum thread count policy before you could start a thread. I think that should be revived.
Before camp started, I remember reading about Jets players being very excited about Vick at QB, but I haven't read anything recently. Might be a team orders type of deal that players haven't talked to the press about it recently. Or maybe Geno is really turning heads.
I'd like to see what Geno has in him, but I think this is not a valid post. Michael Vick spent years in Morninhweg's offense, at the top of the stat sheet. He's far ahead of Geno. That's a given. What Geno has is youth and the support of the organization. There is no possible way he knows or can execute this offense better than Vick at this point.
