I've been hearing Wildcat whispers these last couple weeks and I've been trying so hard to ignore them. First, Mike Tannenbaum goes on NFL Network and said that the Jets could install a package of plays for Vick even if Geno emerges as the starter. I shrugged it off as a washed up GM trying to stir up controversy. Then these tweets came from today Rich Cimini @RichCimini · 40m I have Tebow on the brain today. That's all I'm going to say. #nyj Brian Costello @BrianCoz · 8m It's been a wild kind of day at Jets practice, if you catch my drift #nyj You guys don't think they'd be dumb enough to make the same mistake twice, do you? It's possible that they're just making an install in training camp so they have it as an option during the season. But if they did try it, do you see any possibility that it would actually work this time around with Vick? I trust Marty to handle it more than I did with Sparano, but boy it's hard to support it after what happened in 2012. I guess it's an upgrade to have a QB who's actually a threat to throw running the package.
Before anything else I find it odd that both members decided to be cryptic about mentioning the wild cat, Think they were given a talk to keep it under wraps?
I like the concept of the wildcat, it actually makes more sense now with Vick than it has in the past. Although, having your $4.mil. injury prone back up out there running the ball is not very appealing.
I wonder if they realize that the next shot Vick takes on his ribs might well be the last shot? Vick's running should be limited to a last resort scenario instead of the f'n 'cat. Running is what got Vick DL'd the last time in Philly. Waay too many hits on Vick over the years to even think about risking him running the 'cat.
fuck the wildcat right in it's ass! That said, Vick is a much more dynamic player than Tebow ever dreamed of being. I think MM would be more creative than to repeatedly ram him up into the A gap for 2 yards a pop too.
Meh...theres nothing wrong with the wildcat or mixing up QBs and packages, per say. The problem before was 2 bad QBs in Sanchez and Tebow, not the idea.
If you're trying to compare this to running a Wildcat package with Tim Tebow, you're not gauging the situation correctly.
Your thread title is extremely unfair. It doesn't matter how much you may not like Vick; I don't care if you're married to a pit bull and you have a litter of little half pitbull children running around your house. There is absolutely no excuse to make any comment calling him "Tebow-like."
The wildcat is played out at this point. Let's do away with it. Only teams with shit QB's (for the most part) have to resort to that in order to move the ball. If we use it this year then that means the QB situation is still a problem.
I put it in quotes because I wasn't the one who said it. Cimini did, and so did a discussion on NFLN.
Understood... but if we can effectively use it, who cares if other teams don't? If you can use it 3 times a game and get 3-4 yards out of it, why not use it to keep the defense honest? You also have a guy in Vick who can unload a bomb on the run. That already makes the defense think twice about putting a safety in the box which opens up the run. If you can get Decker open 20 yards deep by forcing the D to add a safety to stop the run, why not try?
49ers with alex smith starting and kaepernick running the option. they killed us with it a few years back.
What exactly did they win? The dolphins killed teams with the wildcat how did that work out........Geno could run the same plays as Vick, he is capable of running I don't see the reason for Vick to have a package
Vick can throw the ball..Tebow couldn't I think that makes a difference if they were to do it a few times a game. We all know as long as Rex is coach and we don't have a star QB he will want to get creative with the offense. Worked great with Brad Smith and decent enough with Powell. So let's not act that it's a disaster everytime it's used.
