The article listing has changed since yesterday, but there is still an article listed on the first page that has the exact quote in it...so I guess I have to read for you guys too... http://www.sportsnews24.com/2963/rex-ryan-geno-smith-will-be-hard-for-vick-to-beat-out/ First sentence of the 2nd paragraph... Smith “knows the offense forward and backwards” and is “going to be hard to beat out,” Ryan said to WFAN-AM. “This young man is going to be hard to beat out. Even as talented a player as Mike Vick is, I think Geno Smith has made that a big a stride. And again, proof will be in the pudding when we play this thing out, but that’s my confidence in him.”
Oh...what's wrong? Didn't think I could produce a link? Don't get mad at me, I wasn't the one who said it. Sorry, but when Geno's coaches and teammates say that he knows the offense now, I'm going to believe them until it is proven otherwise.
Didn't you see from my last post I have been converted? Geno is going to be the best ever, he knows all, he sees all. I am predicting 450 passes completed with a completion percentage of 71%, 5100 yards with 51 TD's and 5 INT's. All the interceptions were the WR's fault.
Heh! Hey I might try this approach, too. It sounds like fun. Not sure I can pull it off, though. It's harder than you make it appear.
Rex Ryan once called Demario Davis our Ray Lewis. Let's see what MM thinks about Geno in training camp. I'm not believing much of anything Rex puffs about his players, especially offensive players and ESPECIALLY about the QB position. _
Typical idiot response when proven wrong. I never said Geno was going to be great this year. Just that he should be better based on actually knowing the offense now and knowing his WRs. If you want to blow that into the stats you listed above, fine, but I doubt he meets those high standards of yours. A lot of the INTs were Geno's fault while he was staring down a WR, like I mentioned. I'm a Geno fan yes, but he has a lot of work to do before he'll become a great NFL QB.
Yeah...if Rex was the only one who said it, I wouldn't even have brought it up. However, Marty, and I think it was David Nelson have both said the same thing during interviews.
Actually rex said davis'leadership qualities reminded him of ray lewis. But being this is the jets the quote was blown way out of context,as usual
Of course--I love Rex but he has always layed on the bluster about all of his players. Sounds like that here. _
[quote"JStokes, post: 3024697, member: 19848"]Of course--I love Rex but he has always layed on the bluster about all of his players. Sounds like that here. _[/quote] Not denying rex talks up his players. But him saying players x has some similar characteristics as a h.o.f.'er and it being turned into player x is going to be the next h.o.f'er is not listening to what rex is saying. Just twisting his context to keep this whole rex the cartoon character persona alive
I don't think Rex is a cartoon at all, I just think when he talks about a player--even rookies, you have to take it in the context of how he talks about all of his players. I know he was talking about Demario's leadership qualities--I was one of the guys defending Rex when folks were saying he called him Ray Lewis, which he didn't. I was just poking fun at the WVU/Geno fan is all. Stating "it's a fact that Geno knows the offense completely now" because Rex made an off the cuff Rex-type statement before training camp has even started and the entire offense most likely hasn't even been installed is silly. _
Wow...you guys might have more reading comprehension problems than WVU fans and that is saying something.
Screw the West Virginia Mountyoursistereeers. The only reason they celebrate Halloween is because they like to pump kin.
How are we to interpret why you said? You have stated to a certitude that it is a FACT that Geno now knows the offense COMPLETELY. And you know this how? Because Rex Ryan (who had never had an offensive mind) threw out a puff piece comment before training camp has even started and likely the entire offense hasn't even been installed? What else was there to comprehend? You want to discuss and hope Geno is better next year, fine, we all do. But to assert he has total command of the offense now is just silly. _
You must stop reading after I type "Rex", because I've said multiple times that Marty and his teammates have also said the same thing. Like I said before, if it was just the one comment from Rex, I wouldn't even have mentioned it. I guess I should have typed...Marty, his teammates, and Rex have all said that Geno knows the offense now. Then maybe you would read the entire sentence. So, I will take the word of his head coach, offensive coordinator, and fellow teammates any day over the word of people on a message board who would have no clue what Geno knows right now. Don't get mad at me for repeating what Marty, teammates, and Rex have stated as being a fact. Get mad at them for saying it. You guys should go tell them that they don't know what they're talking about and there is no possible way that Geno could know the offense yet. Even if he doesn't know the offense "completely", I guarantee he knows it better than he did last year. So my original point still stands that just by knowing the offense (whether it be completely or just better) and knowing his WRs, he should be a better QB this year. Then you have Abyzmul up there saying that I think Geno will be a pro bowl, MVP QB because of this, which I never said anything like that. Just because I think he'll be better this year, doesn't mean that I think he'll be great. I also said multiple times that he has a lot of work to do before he'll be a great NFL QB.
For someone that loves to chide people for their reading comprehension, you sure suck at comprehending what you read.
I don't know anything about the Jets offensive playbook or how much Geno has 'mastered' but after watching rookie QBs develop over the years (or not develop as the case may be) I'd say he was working with 10% of the playbook last season and may get up to 25-30% this season. Sparano's playbook was about 3 pages long, but Morningwood's is probably closer to 3000. When you hear franchise QBs like Manning, Rogers, Brady STILL talk about studying the playbook and working hard to get better you KNOW some rookie QB one year removed has a LONG LONG LONG way to go. Rex? He's probably never even seen MM's playbook.
You have no fucking idea how much of the offense Geno knows. You could have MM, Rex, Woody and Joe Namath swear on a stack of bibles that Geno knows the entire offense and it could be bullshit fluff to prop him up. Training camp hasn't even started and it's likely that the whole offense hasn't even been installed yet. But You have stated to a certitude that it is a FACT that Geno now knows the offense COMPLETELY. That's BULLSHIT and you're simply a West Virginia and Geno fan posting what you HOPE to be true. Stop being so naive. _
