I'm sure I'm not the only one who believes Andre Johnson is a better receiver then D-Jax. AJ said he will restructure his contract so your bold part is null / void. Even so, this is about who the better receiver was. I think the Jets got their version of D-Jax in Jalen Saunders via the draft. They are similar in size and are both very explosive.
I haven't seen the rookie Saunders take a snap yet so I'm taking much stock in that. As for the strength in numbers as to who's right, be careful making such assertions as the majority is most often wrong - look at history and studies on the topic of majority decisions. And why is it so important for so many to feel vindicated or right? That's not what this is about. These are opinions. And certainly you're aware that different skill sets thrive more in particular schemes, no? Or do you ignore such things when making sweeping comparisons? Again, I said Jackson was better for this team and outlined reasons why. That's what I believe and it's all speculation. No one's right here and no one's wrong. Can you deal with that? Or do you need some populous to make your decisions and affirm your existence? The likelihood alone that long-in-the-tooth Johnson could fall off the cliff at any moment is very real. He's old and he has a lot of mileage. If I were GM, I'd be careful on that one.
I never said Saunders will be great - I said they had similar skill-sets. AJ is a better receiver then D-Jax. I would easily take AJ for 2 more years then D-Jax for the next 2 years. He's a reliable receiver, QB friendly - he's the guy that gives the QB confidence game in and game out because you can count on him to make plays anywhere on the field. Those are the receivers I want on my team. Some receivers age like fine wine. AJ has that type of game. A player that great, the scheme doesn't matter - you put him in the lineup and you make it work. He's got far too much talent.
Actually, you implied that we have our D-Jax in the context that the team wouldn't need a DeSean Jackson. I understand your bigger point was a complement to Decker but I simply don't buy it. That's okay. As for "better", I will repeat my stance that a 1-2 year rental isn't what's best for a developing young team to mold with a young QB for the future. You want cohesiveness and repartee with WR/QB play. Better is such a subjective term.
I've read that they are odds on favorites to land him with Carolina in the hunt. The Clowns still got a bunch of cash and ironically NE has none yet the idiots in the media (and many pessimistic Jet fans) continue to harp that he's going to Beantown.
I don't believe Cleveland to be a possible landing spot. I'd like to see him go to Carolina. That division was very exciting to watch when they were a good team. Expecting a rebound from the Bucs and the Falcons and that could be a great division to watch this year. They pulled it off last year without much at WR but I think Carolina falls down a big peg if they go into the season with only Kelvin Benjamin as a legitimate threat.
Cleveland has the cap space. The question is whether they want to give up picks for Johnson or not. The other question is whether they think he will adjust well going from the dome to lake weather at his age. I think Carolina is an easier landing spot in that regards although he would be a tight fit under the 2014 cap and they'd have to make some adjustments elsewhere to pay him.
I'm not a big fan of free agent signings anyway so I wouldn't want AJ or D-Jax on this team - I prefer our team to build via the draft. Doesn't change the fact that Andre Johnson is still the better receiver doesn't matter whose on the other side.
