We have alot of options for this with out team being filled with so much young talent. Im gonna go with Demario Davis for defense and Jace Amaro for offense. Demario has a high ceiling and is super athletic for a ILB. I dont think David Harris will be here after this season so Demario will have to show he's ready to take that spot for the long term. He had over 100 tackles (combined with assist) last season which was a big leap from his previous 36 tackles (combined with assist) the season before. I expect him to get some turnovers this year and maybe a few more sacks if rex decides to use him that way as he only had one of each last year if he is going to be a break out player and really make a name for himself. He also has great downhill speed remember that play he saved us against the bucs week 1 last year when he hawked down Vincent Jackson from behind. Jace Amaro has my offensive pick for an early break out year. He's one of those players thats too big for DB's and too fast for LB's. He should be Geno's security blanket that can own the middle of the field which will also open up some one on ones for the WR's since he's a verticle threat. He prospered in the red zone in college and i dont see why he cant bring that over to the NFL. I also like how Jace can step over into the slot if needed, gives us that Jimmy Graham-like advantage. Who do you guys have for a break out year? Give a little insight as to why.
Kerley. 1) He's playing for a contract 2) either Hill/Nelson step up outside which will allow him to dominate the slot or he kicks outside and gets more opportunities to match up against lesser cbs 3) think he stays healthy all year. He's been a steal for us and I think with all the weapons we've added plus a year of experience and he's playing for the big $$$, all arrows are pointing up
My 2014 Offensive shocker. Non other than Hill. Hill will surprise Jets fan with a great season, temporarily quieting most non believers, getting a couple of game balls from the coaching staff and forcing the competition to consider him a serious down field threat. In so doing he will be opening a bunch of opportunities for Kerley, Decker and the TEs. In 2014 Jets fan will actually be happy when the offense is on the field.
FINALLY! Its kinda sad all we really had to look forward to watching our D-Line (2013) or DB's (2012). I always said all we have to do is score 3 TD's and we can win most of our games...but thats been wayyy to much to ask for apparently -_-
With Kerley and Decker, Hill should have less coverage on him. 2years in and being healthy will help. Maybe some stickum also. But I think it's his year.
I don't see hill breaking out, but I have a good feeling about Nelson. I think he was solid last year and started to really get on the same page with geno toward the end of the season. With the attention on Decker, CJ/Ivory and one of our TEs I think Nelson can get us 700 yards and 5 or 6 tds
Hill has the potential to have a Alshon Jeffery type season. Hell with his attributes i'd even say a Josh Gordon type season. But im starting to think all hill will ever have is potential.
I'm going with Milliner. I think he'll be as good as he was down the stretch for most of the year. My 2nd place vote goes to Stephen Hill. Geno Smith will have his "breakout" season in 2015 when we are title contenders. I think he'll be much more serviceable year but not quite breakout.
I'm going to say Cumberland. Here's a guy who will be forgotten with the additions of new WR's, Amaro and Chris Johnson as he has the speed and route running skills now to do some major damage with defenses not able to pay too much attention to him. The offense is getting closer.
we should just hope he doesn't suck. he's almost certainly never going to be as good as either of those guys. he doesn't have nearly the coordination of either.
I assume by breakout we mean not just an improvement, but improving to star level. By that measure the obvious candidates seem Milliner and Coples, probably in that order. Milliner concerns me, because if Rex leaves him in man coverage, as the #1 cb he will see a lot of action. But I think he improved enough last year toward the end to hold promise, and he has great upside potential. Coples is imo a close second. He was hampered by weight and injury issues in moving to a new, hybrid role. But he's got the talent and now experience to be poised for a breakout. I will be disappointed if both these guys do not rise to the occasion.
Thats what i was hoping people understood... Theres a difference between a good season and a break out season. I dont see any of our WRs doing that bc of the way run our O
I will be very disappointed if Coples doesn't step up (as long as he stays healthy). He's one of my favorite players on the team. The last 8 games I thought Coples stepped his game up - he needs to take the next step.
