He didn't suck at all, and was a HOFer compared to Gholston. Its not his fault the Jets drafted him where they did.
Yeah, that was a bit harsh, my bad. He was a good player for us but I was hoping for Butkus. Kind of like Marvin Jones. Both good players but they never lived up to MY expectations which is MY issue, not their fault. _
Marvin had that hip injury his rookie year which was thought to be career threatening at the time. I don't know if he ever regained his explosiveness after that but he still ha da good career, just not the one we envisioned when drafting him. I think Lageman exceeded the expectations of most.
I met Jeff Lageman once in a bar near Hofstra during training camp. Really cool and smart guy, very generous. He knew he hit the lottery when the Jets drafted him and he appreciated them for it.
I admit it, that's on me. He was a very good player for us for a number of years--I had unrealistic expectations for him. _
one of my all time favs - mehl - really underrated player and its a shame he couldnt enjoy more success with the team - injuries to him and many of his defensive teammates< IMO, was the main reason we could'nt get to the dance during that time.
ED "WAHOO" MCDANIELS #54 Forget Biggs and Riggins, here's the Jet who should've gone to the Redskins.
