Jets also have TJ "The Mountain" Barnes coming in at 6'7" and 364lbs. Not sure why they would burn a pick on Ross but rather kick the tires if he's a UDFA.
Agreed. For a sloth like this, it would be hard to imagine burning a pick on him in spite of his size and strength. No one was drafted last year in the supplemental draft and teams today covet their picks more than ever. No one would dangle even a 7th for DeSean Jackson. They could sign him as an UDFA once the supdraft concludes. And little prick Steiny is almost never right on these things anyway. They do need to keep an eye on Ellis' replacement as I would expect him to hit FA next year where he can start because he won't beat out Harrison. I'm keeping my eye on Barnes this TC.
There were a whole bunch of posts on there calculating who they would keep after getting Lakendrick and how the comp pick we got for who ever left in FA would offset the supplemental pick used for him and how if someone asks for too much in contract negotiation they have Lakendrick there to fill that spot. Now that no one bothered to offer up a pick for him they will need to figure out some new scenarios.
I will be watching Harrison more closely this year but I'm going into it with skepticism. I'm not so sure he's the "diamond" some see him as simply because he's working in a very favorable situation between Wilkerson & Richardson in Rex's D. To his credit, he's taking full advantage. I just question whether a lot of other big men could be just as successful there.
Snacks gets a lot of attention b/c he was an UDFA and came on fast while Ellis came on slow, BUT Ellis is probably the better player at this juncture simply b/c he can stop the run (like Snacks) AND get pressure up the middle. I love Snacks but if it came down to one or the other I can see Snacks getting sent to the Cafeteria.
But then, wouldn't they be using Ellis if he was the better player? I think Snacks is still slated to be the starter this year, and he could become better in the passing game. Last year he got 1 sack and 2 pass deflections, so I think there's room for him to improve. He's still learning. (Ellis is also great. But I trust Rex and Thurman to start whoever is better.)
Adam Schefter ✔ @AdamSchefter Follow NFL supplemental draft came and went today without anyone being picked. Last player picked in supplemental draft was Josh Gordon in 2012.
I'd love to see Snacks up his game (QB pressures) and remain one of the 'Sons. Really would. He'd be cheaper too. But Rex NEEDS pressure on the QB and he values pressure up the middle more than anywhere else. This is what Coples was supposed to bring when Rex drafted him, pressure up the middle, right into the QB's face. It will be interested to see who Rex plays in the middle on passing downs.
Nobody was taken in supplemental draft, same as last year, the days of finding a Reggie white, or Cris Carter or Bernie Kosar, are few an far between
