http://thejetsblog.com/nyjets/buzz-jets-interested-in-dt-lakendrick-ross/ Granted - it's Steiny, but I imagine Rex & Dunbar could do with a physical beast like this in addition to what they already have? Obviously measurables don't always shake out, but he sounds like a monster. Anyone seen him play?
Here's some highlights. He looks slow and lumbering on the field, but he's fucking huge. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1865092/highlights/50474394 It appears that the Jets are one of 12 teams that attended his pro day, including Oakland, New England, Arizona and San Francisco, not sure about the entire list.
Also, he only has 1 year of college experience. He took 2011 off after high school, played as a freshman in 2012, then took 2013 off (I'm assuming because of academic ineligibility). https://sports.vice.com/article/nfl...rying-to-prove-hes-not-just-a-workout-warrior He ran the 40 in 5.4, 5.5 seconds at his official pro day. http://www.revengeofthebirds.com/20...draft-arizona-cardinals-scout-lakendrick-ross
Not very impressive considering the talent he was playing against. To be honest, it looks like he falls down and just happens to land on the ball carrier a lot. He is a big dude.
based on those highlights i agree looks slow and lumbering. red flag with the academic ineligibility. has gained a lot of weight since the 338 listing at school. all in all, a project with risks, but certainly upside. if they like his work out, maybe a late supplemental pick flyer. nothing higher than that. we need to start thinking about NT depth with Ellis set to hit FA next offseason.
Although he seems like he has a lot of potential based on his size, we already have Mo, Sheldon, and Snacks; all of them are young, healthy, and great. We also have a bunch of high-quality depth on the d-line. He looks like he could be a run-stuffing nose tackle, but we already have one, plus Ellis as the backup. I'd see him potentially competing against Ellis for that backup spot, but then we'd have to let the rookie we just drafted go. I don't think the Jets have room for him, but he definitely has impressive physical stats. His technique will be a huge question mark, he might be the defensive line equivalent of Vlad and just not be able to make the leap skill-wise.
I wonder what this means for roster hopeful Kerry Hyder... He plays DE and Ross plays DT but I still think it threatens the spot he might get on the team if they do draft Ross. Or maybe they will draft Ross and he will get "injured" to keep him on the team for the year, but not risk him getting snatched off the practice squad.
Another combine wonder, nothing more. Not to mention the Jets are plenty deep across the DL and need to save all picks to build depth in other positions. Pass.
Please, no one mention this guy to Run_N_gun10, he will want them to use a 2nd round pick on him. First there was Walter Thomas, then Talavou, now we have Ross.
I wonder if this is where he "heard it": http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...-supplemental-mock-draft?campaign=Twitter_atl
actually maybe that article saw his tweet first, he posted that on Monday, the article went up today at NFL.com
It was reported in the media? Then the Jets aren't interested. They had 12 picks this year. They're not going to give up a pick next year to add a player at a position that is already ridiculously flush.
There are other loons "out there" as well. I read that blurb about Ross in the "Jets News" section and in the very first post in the "Comments" section was this gem: If Rex/Dunbar can work their magic again, then yes If they can coach Ross up to be a decent backup then I would be totally fine with trading Harrison and starting Ellis next year. The other option is just not re-signing Ellis at the end of the year, but I’m pretty sure Idzik could get something decent for one of our run stuffers. The Jets find a diamond-in-the-rough out of William Penn in Harrison and this hoople's all ready to trade him….sick.
After looking up some more info, I see that he played football at some college that has only 600 students total, and it might not even have been an NCAA school (i.e. not even good enough to be a Division IV school.) Guys from those schools just don't get drafted. (That's why Snacks was a football miracle.) We have TJ Barnes, who is even taller than Ross, weighs about the same, has spent a year learning on our practice squad, and went to Georgia Tech. I'm not sure I'd even take Ross as an undrafted free agent, considering that we already have Barnes. Also, this.
