Personally speaking, Gastineau's "play" on Kosar in 1987 perfectly sums up everything about the New York Jets and their history. In reality, the play has to be from SBIII or, as much as I'd hate to admit it, the Fake Spike.
Calvin Pace rocking Brady in the playoffs. turning point. the look on Brady's face is priceless. 2002 opening day, Chad Morton returning the OT kickoff all the way for the win. the celebration was epic, and it proceeded from the sports bar to the strip club without delay. Curtis to Chrebet as meshawn sulked on the TB sidelines. and of course, Jumbo's catch.. great moments.
The most memorable day in ESPN history was the day Bart Scott put their shitty network on blast following a playoff win over the Pats.
2 scores doesn't put fear or doubt into the Patriots. With that hit, i believe it started to creep in. The look on Brady's face makes it quite possibly my favorite individual play accompanied by a perfect photo. someone post that pic for me! gotta run..
Having a tough time with the three choices Does any other team have two negative plays amongst its choices? Like, for example, are two of the Giants' plays the Pisarcik fumble and the blocked field goal in '02 vs. the 49ers? And if they are going about memorable plays, whether positive or negative, how can they leave out the Gastineau roughing the passer play vs Browns in '86 play-offs. Anyway, I do like some of the alternate suggestions made here. How about Nick Folk's solitary voice over a stunned silent Indy crowd in the '10 playoffs O'Brien to Toon knocking the Giants out of the play-offs in '88 Namath to Eddie Bell 83 yards on 3rd & 10 with less than a minute to go in '72 to beat the Colts.
The 3 that always come to mind as most memorable, even if not most important: 1. Gastineau's hit on Kosar 2. O'Brien to Walker to end the 51-45 game against the Dolphins 3. Dennis Byrd's injury . . . and I'd have to add this as a bonus pick: Victor Cruz - Christmas game - 99 yards (89 YAC) for a touchdown on 3rd and ten from the one. From the one! Featuring whiffs by Wilson, Cromartie and Smith. From the one!
The whole point of this thread is to offset the ridiculous choices by ESPN. Those of you who added more negative heartbreak type plays are assholes. Yes, the Jets have not won a SB in 45 years, but there have been plenty of thrilling moments and plays during Jets history. ESPN is a joke and those of you playing along are just as bad. You honestly call yourselves Jets fans??? Does every thread have to be so F$#@ing negative???? If that is the way you honestly feel, Mangold Showers, why not just quit following the sport? What are you getting out of it anyway??? Some more plays: Klecko sacking Simms in Giants Stadium as Jets beat Giants in 81 Todd TD to Lam Jones against GB in 81 as Jets make playoffs for for the first time since 69 Namath's 79 and 80 yard TD bombs to Caster against Baltimore in 72 on way to 496 yards and 6 TDs on 15 completions Kurt Sohn's punt return in OT against NE in 85 setting up winning FG Allegre kicking winning FG in OT against Miami in 1991 sending the Jets to the playoffs Victor Green stopping Minnesota's 2 point conversion in 1997 preserving 2 point win Gaffney TD pass from McNeil in 82 playoff win vs Cincy
Greene should have fallen down short of the end zone on that play. The game was over if he did that. Instead, Brady got the ball back, drove for a TD and the Jets needed to recover an onside kick to win. It was actually a stupid play by Greene
A valid point, and some good picks. I guess some people (I'm one of them) tend to immediately remember the negative plays, because they were really like punches in the gut, which makes them memorable. We've certainly had a lot of exciting games and memorable plays in Jet history. Rex's first two years, especially the playoff wins were keepers. Can't forget those either.
To THIS loooong-time Jet-Junkie right here,... to me THIS just had to be the ALL-TIME GREATEST & MOST MEMORABLE "PLAY" - ever, Ever, EVER - in NY JET HISTORY...........!!!!; B'way Joe's "Finger Wave" after winning SB3!!!!
Our great moments look like meaningless shit compared to franchises like the Steelers and Cowboys. I was half trolling. It's mid-July. Take a chill pill.
They play this on the radio at my gym sometimes and they're not even Jets fan, it's just a great clip that hypes you up
