Why yes, since you ask, this IS the deadest part of the offseason...

Chris Johnson says he can beat Michael Vick in a footrace

Here's some inner turmoil the Jets will face when they gather for camp later this month, and by some inner turmoil the Jets will face I mean a thing that absolutely has to happen: A footrace between running back Chris Johnson and quarterback Michael Vick.

Johnson already slammed down the gauntlet by saying he would win. So let's do this, Jets.

The Great Johnson-Vick Race Debate, which is a formal title I just made up and you're all free to use, was created without warning on a podcast hosted by NFL.com's Dave Dameshek, who asked Johnson who would win if said footrace were to take place. Dameshek set the terms as a 50-yard dash, and Johnson didn't hesitate with an answer.

    "Of course, me," Johnson said.

Vick and Johnson are new to the Jets, but both have a history of testing their speed by running sprint races for the heck of it.

In the spring of 2013, when Vick was with the Eagles, he accepted a race challenge from his speedy (and much younger) then-teammate LeSean McCoy, who had taunted Vick beforehand by calling him an "old man." Vick won, and he crowed about it afterward:

McCoy—who went on to win the NFL rushing title in 2013—would later tell the NFL Network Vick had started too soon. Sadly, no footage of the actual race seems to exist.

Johnson, whose 2008 combine record for the 40-yard dash (4.24 seconds) still stands, actually raced a cheetah last year in a made-for-TV television special you can watch by clicking here. The cheetah won.

Johnson turns 29 in September. He's also coming off a meniscus tear that required surgery and limited him this offseason. But he isn't lacking for confidence. In a separate interview, Johnson said he's still good enough to force the Jets into giving him most of the team's carries. The Jets' stated plan has thus far been to have Johnson share the load with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell.

In his conversation with Dameshek, Johnson took his boast about beating Vick a step further by saying Vick would agree that Johnson can beat him. In fact, Johnson said no one in the NFL could take him in a footrace—not even Dri Archer, the Steelers' draft pick who just clocked a 4.26 40 at the combine in February.

"My 40 (time) hasn't been broken yet," Johnson said. "That's the evidence right there."

So: What do you say, Jets? Let's plan this Chris Johnson-Michael Vick footrace once we all get to Cortland, K?

You can listen to Johnson's interview with Dameshek below. Jump to the 45:40 mark for all the banter about all the footracing.

This has become what arm wrestling was to 3rd graders when I was a kid.

If you win what does it prove?

Chris Johnson holds the record for the fastest 40 time since the year 2000, when the electric timer was introduced.

    He ran a 4.24

I hope he would beat Vick in a foot race.

    MCL here.

Worst I heard was a guy in my town softball league, I play third base and as he's rounding the bag he completely ruptures his ACL, like he got shot.

He goes down and his entire calf muscle is bunched up under the back of his knee, like a window shade spontaneously rolling up.

    Was awful.

    Oh god! Haha

It can be disgusting, leg injuries. Nothing I've had was as bad as my hammy popping twice. I tore an ACL and meniscus, but nothing audible occurred. When my leg did that the first time, I thought my tendon came out of my skin. It was like someone threw a knife into my leg. Loud pop and I knew I was fucked haha

Was skiing in Tremblant, just down from the top of the mountain, bitter cold and my MCL made a pretty loud pop when it went. Had to get some French patrol guys lug me back up to the ski lift so I could ride it back down. Sucked.

I'm 5'-3 7/8ths. I was naturally selected against playing basketball.

Well I was naturally selected to have parents who dont give a shit about sports whatsoever. Had someone actually pushed me/allowed me to play in the earlier days I probably would have gone pro.

I listened to that podcast - Dameshek likes to ask guys who they're faster than, and also random questions like what condiments they like, and what candy fruit flavor tastes the best.

He went on a horse & carriage ride with Eric Decker in Central Park and did a podcast interview of him.
