The alex smith blueprint isn't what we want to see from geno 2-3 years down the line (if he makes it that long), but for this year if Geno can get Alex Smith 2013-14 numbers (60% completion rate/ 220 yards a game passing/ 23 td's to just 7 picks 4 fumbles) we have imo a great shot at making the playoffs and maybe making a little run. We have the running game to help him do it and if our offense can stay on the field more consistently than last year our defense won't be as tired/can create more turnovers.
If you're hoping for an Alex Smith trajectory on a QB progression as a positive I'd suggest you look at the internet as to how folks thought about Smith over the first SIX years of his career. If you're hoping that Geno becomes Alex Smith in year SEVEN with Harbaugh as the coach/offensive guru and Frank Gore and Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree then I think you may be a bit delusional. _
I'm not saying that Alex should be Geno's ceiling. But I think he can emulate Alex in certain ways while still being explosive in his own way.
First off Mr Stokes I never quoted you. I added a comment to a picture you put up. You then asked me why I quoted you, which seemed random. If you don't want ppl to quote you you should probably find something else to do.
I do tend to go on about Marty, but that's not because i think he's perfect. I just think he's an above average NFL OC, and I can't remember the last time the Jets had one of those. It doesn't mean he's above reproach, but I do think it ridiculous to blame him for any significant performance problems by the offensive roster. But then even for mediocre OC's I think too many here in the past have blamed them for performance problems. My impression of the last four games last year was that the CS limited Smith's options to a range he could handle better, especially focusing on limiting turnovers. That was accomplished, but as I noted at a cost. Passing yardage was not impressive, and the ypa number's decline says a great deal about it being a conservative game plan. The fear is that opponents will defend any similar approach better than the Raiders, a dispirited Miami, and a Cleveland team already planning golf outings did.

Geno was arguably the worst starting QB last year. It is what it is. Hopefully he improves and at worst becomes a middle of the pack QB.
I'm totally on board with seeing what Smith can do this coming season. While I was all for the Vick signing, and in fact would prefer if he was starting (and he still might), it didn't make sense for the Jets to go Qb high in the draft this off season. Having said that, which is on a going forward basis, I don't see how anyone could deny Smith was the worst starting Qb in the league last year. As noted in the comments to that article, if one analyzes those Qb's who had 200 or more attempts, Smith actually ranks 37th out of 37. In a 32 team league, that is quite an accomplishment.
I can agree with him being in the "4th tier"..but dead last? I think that's about as creditable as putting Brady #1. Plus even though this list is based mostly on last season Id prefer Smith over about 9 other teams QB situation's. For what thats worth.
True, but he was also rated as one of the best over the last 4 games of the season (granted, small sample size). If he carries that over to '14 than he'll be solid.
Every year these nfl executive "polls" are done by ESPN & every year the Jets get pissed on. I'm not surprised.I hope it works out the same way it did last year when ESPN did a similar poll that power ranked the Jets as #32 overall. Part of this could be execs actively rooting against Smith to validate passing on him IN ROUND 1 & allowing him to slip like he did. I kinda like it. Let people doubt Geno & this team. This isn't 2011-2012 anymore. This team has talent capable of lighting it up against the opposition on any given Sunday. If they have a chip on their shoulder from lack of respect..all the better. Where has all this off season gratification gotten the Patriots since 2007? Yeah they've gotten some weak division titles but more often than not when it gets physical & the trenches get heated..they fold.
