It didn't matter what he wanted to do, he really couldn't run it in college. His first two years starting, he played with screw and/or pins in his feet because of broken bones suffered during the offseason. On top of that, he really didn't have a capable backup behind him if he got injured. Coaches weren't going to let him run until the end of the season. Doug Marrone put together a heck of a game plan to beat Geno every time he faced him. WVU had a terrible Oline, so he blitzed early and often. The '12 bowl game...I don't think anyone on the team wanted to play that game after the way the season went that year (missing our starting center didn't help either).
You said it yourself that you were skeptical about drafting a qb that lost to cuse 3 times. And you sound like an ignorant prick that has never been to or met anyone from WV. Who are you to call anyone a redneck? Now skip along, turd, and watch your "really shitty" football team play in the "Atlantic Coast Confrence" and be forgotten in CFB lol.
Too funny, you calling someone ignorant. How much did SU beat WVU in the Pin Stripe Bowl? 6 points? Try google next time if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. Sounds like someone else is bitter and is holding a grudge. And yeah, I've been to West Virginia. Inbred rednecks. My favorite t-shirt says it all. West Virginia. It's all relative. That Big 12 is some awesome football, something to boast about LMFAO. _
Typical comment from a naive asshat. Besides the group of guys you call a football team. I seem to recall that basketball coaches like to sexually abuse ball boys up there.
Somebody has their feelings hurt. At least he wasn't related to the boys he was allegedly abusing. I guess in West Virginia, that's not really called sexual abuse. _
I don't have my feelings hurt. I have no connection to the state. You just sound like an idiot who has resorted to ill informed stereotypes. Where are you getting your info from?
Been to West Virginia and my daughter's best friend went to WVU and graduated from there. They sold these t-shirts on campus and she wore it to our house one day last year. Ten years AFTER it first became controversial. Don't hold a grudge or be bitter. You're the idiot who suggested I have a grudge or am bitter about Geno not being able to beat my sorry football team. Enjoy. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/23/us/t-shirt-slight-has-west-virginia-in-arms.html T-Shirt Slight Has West Virginia in Arms By JAMES DAO Last year it was social conservatives and women's groups. This year, it is the state of West Virginia. Abercrombie & Fitch, the youth-oriented apparel retailer that stirred controversy in December with a magazine filled with photographs of nude and partially clad women, has now managed to outrage the governor of West Virginia with a T-shirt. The shirt, which is selling on the company's Web site for $24.50, is emblazoned with a map of West Virginia and the words, ''It's all relative in West Virginia.'' Gov. Bob Wise, a Democrat, contends that the shirt is a not-so-subtle play on the stereotype of West Virginia as a haven for incest. In a letter sent Monday to Abercrombie & Fitch's chairman, Michael Jeffries, Mr. Wise demanded that the company stop selling the shirt and destroy its entire stock of it. ''By selling and marketing this offensive item, your company is perpetuating an inaccurate portrayal of the people of this great state,'' Mr. Wise wrote. ''Indeed, such a depiction of West Virginians undermines our collective efforts to communicate a positive representation of the spirit and values of our citizens.'' Thomas D. Lennox, the company's director of communications, said it had no plans to stop selling the shirt, calling it a popular product. He issued a statement that said, ''We love West Virginia.'' ''We love California, Florida, Connecticut, Hawaii and Nebraska, too,'' the statement said. ''Abercrombie & Fitch was born and raised in the U.S.A., and we honor all 50 states of the union.'' The company drew a storm of protest last year from groups angry about the Christmas issue of A&F Quarterly, which contained provocative photographs and references to group sex.The company withdrew the issue, then killed the magazine altogether. Abercrombie & Fitch's T-shirt is the second well-publicized insult against West Virginia this year. In January, an anonymous prankster initiated an auction of the entire state on eBay. The item drew 56 bids, reaching $99 million before eBay halted the auction. Aides said Mr. Wise was considering taking his protest to Abercrombie & Fitch's headquarters, in New Albany, Ohio, if the company did not stop selling the shirt. ''I was hired to respond to just this kind of thing,'' said Joseph Carey, Mr. Wise's director for strategic communications. ''It really hinders our ability to market the state.'' I'll try and get this back on topic, as this is one of the better topics and it shouldnt be derailed. For me its pretty simple. If Geno can throw at a 60% clip, 17-22 TD's(passing) and 10-13 picks. He's still a sophomore QB, who wasnt ready to start as rookie, but had to. If Geno put up those kind of numbers, in addition to solid rushing numbers as well, I would be very comfortable with Geno as this teams QB.
Aplogies--was originally talking about what Geno needed to do to get better. I agree, as a second year player--if he completes 60% and flips his INTs and TDs around, he's our guy. He's got to do a better job protecting the ball and developing an awareness for where he is on the field. _
All geno has to do like any other QB with a great defense is manage the game and dont turn the ball over. Nobody is asking kaep or russ Wilson to go win games, simply jus dont lose them by screwing up with mental mistakes. I think geno will be our guy for years to come , but ima WVU fan so maybe im just a geno "homer" (yall taught me a new word)
I like when Geno Smith runs with it. He's effective as a running QB. I don't like when people say he shouldn't run because of injury concerns or that he should try to be a pocket passer. 1)he's not even good enough to worry about if he gets injured 2.)He's not a great pocket passer so why take away a part of his game where he can actually be effective? I say run, run and run Geno. I am against the read-option offense with him though that Morningweg has mixed in. It took the league by storm in 2012 because of RGIII, but they are catching up to it -it's too slow developing. Geno Smith is a better straight ahead runner anyway, he's not the quick, elusive runner that an RGII is/was. The best model for Geno Smith is the Aaron Rodgers model. That guy runs a lot more than people realize. He drops back and picks his spot and runs straight to the yardsticks. That's when Geno Smith was his best too when he dashed straight down the field, nothing fancy, planned running play or not. He will probably never be the passer Rodgers is accuracy wise and a poor comparison, but that should be the type of QB to try and make him emulate overall.
Basing your opinion on a t-shirt furthers my claim that you are indeed, an idiot. With that said, I will end this circular argument.
Nice. That opinion was drawn well before any t-shirts were ever printed--first time I went to WVa was in 1977 and have been back a few times since. Sorry your feelings are so hurt on the internet. _
He needs to develop chemistry with his WRs this year. That should start in TC and is likely why he's looking to receive the majority of first team snaps. Too often last year he'd check down to the outlet receiver because he didn't trust the likes of salas and gates to create space. He is going to need consistent receiver play in order to develop that chemistry so hopefully we can stay healthy at the position.
Anyone who references an A&F T-shirt as some sort of evidence to support their opinion, is of course an idiot. almost goes without saying. btw, awesome avatar! lol
Geno just has to show that he is improving. He needs to look like a professional QB. In most cases, he did not last year. Not all his fault, as he was thrown to the wolves, unprepared. Just take that next step this year and he can continue to start in 2015. It should be fairly easy to see if he has improved or not. There should be a definitive answer on Geno this season.
I think that is crap. In all of history 1 game manager has won the Super Bowl and that was Dilfer. Wilson makes a LOT of plays. QBs need to make plays, to get their team ahead, to keep drives alive, to catch up at the end of games. "Managing" a game and hoping to win on defense is a recipe for 8-10 wins. If you want to win it all a QB has to make plays. Managing the game is horseshit, and not something a QB should do. If you had two QBs and one had 17 TDS and 8 interceptions, and one had 34 TDs and 23 interceptions I guarantee you that the second QB won more games because he made more plays, and not all mistakes are costly. All TD's though are worth 7 points. For Geno to stay QB, he needs to show progression from season 1 to season 2 and from game 1 to game 16. If he does that, even if his end stats are not phenomenal he should stay QB. But he needs to show consistent improvement in all areas.
Wilson is a game manager at its best bro. He's not out here shredding defenses apart through the air, he's avoiding getting sacked and not turning the ball over. Taking things one first down at a time, He wastes alot of clock and for the most part they run the ball. Thats managing a game. But i agree with what you said about Geno at the end.
