Really, not from anyone I know. There isn't anyone I'd rather see win it than the Dutch once England are out. They aren't a great side though, but I don't think there is a standout side in this tournament so far.
Suarez finally apologized. http://msn.foxsports.com/soccer/sto...-it-again-063014?cmpid=msn:foxsports:ansfox11
"I deeply regret what occurred." Not "I deeply regret what I did." "(The) truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me." Not: "I bit Giorgio Chiellini." It's passive, distancing himself from his actions and is a pretty pathetic apology. I'd double his ban just for this.
The whole aftermath was poorly handled by Suarez. Given how he pretended to have repented, he didn't want to admit to biting. So he denied, denied, denied. Then enough pressure was put on him that he finally released an apology. Had he offered a sincere apology right away, he stood a chance of his ban being reduced.
oh, and it seems the Algerian players are not fasting. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/wo...ng-imam-ahead-World-Cup-16-clash-Germany.html
ESPNfc showing two yellows on Rafik Halliche. He obviously doesn't have two yellows, but when this happened yesterday, the player did eventually get a second yellow.
And not to pile on, but the overall response from his coach and Uruguayans all the way up to the President has been a mix of bullsit (the coach) and "wha'?" (Uruguayans and their president). Bullshit from his coach who in his first presser got very contentious with reporters by definantly scolding them and describing their questions regarding Suerez' repeated biting incidents as "attacking him" then taking it a step further by snidely referring to their "cheap morality" while dancing around what prompted the questioning in the first place. Then when the 4-month ban was announced, he went into dick mode by not-so-subtly playing the ethnicity (race?) card by painting the "English-speaking media" as the party responsible for the poor, beleagured Suarez' "excessive" penalty. This carried to Suarez' countrymen who are camped outside the guy's house like it was a friggin' shrine and treating Suarez like some combination deity and martyr which included their screwball President Mujica who showed off his 'statesmanship' chops by referring to the Suarez suspension as "facist" while referring to F.I.F.A. officials as "a bunch of old sons of bitches!" That's the "wha'?" part I don't get. How about "thanks a lot you selfish, out-of-control fucking vampire bat -- you just got suspended when we needed you the most!"
Good job by Algeria so far. Germany dominated the game but couldn't score. Though I always side with underdogs, it would be nice to see Germany-France matchup in the quarters.
I enjoyed the Zen of watching tired players in the calm rain, but Germany had too much quality and was too well organized to lose to Algeria. This game was basically Major League against Minor League.
It's quite embarrassing as a Liverpool fan, Real Madrid reportedly is still offering 80 million and Pepe based on how bad our defense is and the fact that Sterling and Sturridge seem capable of filling his void I might bite if I'm the Reds (pun intended) throw in you'd get a little bit of cash as well to go out and get another defender and midfielder who attacks and they could be in business.
