Went to a cool even last night, played some pickup basketball at MSG with a bunch of colleagues, one team coached by Larry Johnson (who was very cool, laid back and funny) and the other by one of my all-time favorites Dwayne Pearl Washington. Really nice guy, walked around the Garden with him and reminisced about Cuse basketball back in the day, the Big East, Ewing, St. John's, his miracle shot against BC--he was cracking up how much I remembered about his career--I saw it all--and it was an honor to introduce this SU legend to my son (he's going to be a soph next year). Got a tour of the Ranger and Knick locker room--unfortunately the Knick locker room and the court were adorned in the Liberty logos. Pregame beer waiting to get into MSG Scoreboard Knick/Liberty Locker room--LJ said it's beautiful compared to what they used to have--it is pretty nice Ranger locker room--NHL players are very protective about the logo--you cannot step on it--hence it's covered up in offseason For you Henrik fans Actual game nets _
Knick/Ranger gym--just off both locker rooms MSG Blueprints Larry Johnson Me, my son and the Pearl Signed ball for my son's dorm room in the fall Hoops at MSG with my son--yes we were the smallest guys there _
Night and day doesn't begin to describe those old, awful locker rooms they had before the renovation. it was worse than an average HS locker room. Now they have 1st class locker rooms.
It's been about 5 years since I've talked to Larry but man he has aged. I used to get to work with him about 2-3 times a year here in Vegas/ One of the coolest guys. You don't realize how big he actually is. He still looks like he could go out and throw down a dunk. One of the greatest players to ever play college and without a doubt the greatest player in UNLV History.
Weird, I hadn't seen him in a while and some of the guys at the event commented about how old he looked. I will say, other than the salt and pepper hair, he looked pretty spry and active. Could still shoot the lights out and looked like he could jam at will. Really really cool guy, very down to earth and was a real good sport about the whole event, what with a bunch of old idiot white guys trying to ball _
I have met him a bunch of times, he looks pretty good outside of the hair. I play w/ Anthony mason now and then and that man is huge.
Yeah that was the weird thing. Other than his hair, LJ looked like he just stepped off of the court. I didn't think he looked old at all, and he wasn't even trying and he looked like he was moving around pretty well under the boards. And he was hitting 3's like he was still a Knick. When I met him I did the "L" that he used to do with his arms and he cracked up. Very quiet and humble guy but with a great sense of humor. _
