I'll add my 2 cents here but can see by reading the latest few pages of this thread how this has been....but frankly i knew that when I saw the title of the thread/poll that those of use who have been in the Rangers/NHL/and World Cup/soccer threads would be saying soccer and hockey....and junc would be arguing with everyone about that. I assume that pretty much sums it up? NFL has increasingly become a couch spectator sport..............with HD tv, replays, Sunday ticket packages etc.........not to mention drunk tailgaters and the sort of non family friendly atmosphere. Baseball? C'mon I've had this argument with junc and others a million times....if it weren't ingrained in our culture it would be boring as hell (i.e if you were, to say, not know anything about either soccer or baseball, not know any players teams or anything.........which would be more exciting to go and watch?....you can throw hockey in that discussion too). for me- Any soccer/NHL are tied for 1st, NFL 2nd, NBA/MLB bring up the rear. And I'm a Met fan so that may effect my general outlook here.....I'd rather do yard work than go to CitiField right now.
yep, you can win 1 of 3 games and still advance. what a sport! I can't wait to capture this excitement in person when I go see a metrostars game!
Baseball is concentrated boredom to watch. It's too slow paced, too little is going on at any given time and even the exciting events tend to be anti-climactic. You get like .001% of the play involving really exciting things like a collision at the plate in a tight game and the rest playing out as sequential boredom. The Lords of Baseball recognize the inherent flaws in the game which is why they mess with the rules and conditions so often to change the style of play. Offensive eras are invariably followed by tight defensive eras, changing the very nature of the game every 10 or 15 years in the process. Baseball is one of the few sports that I am fairly confident will be extinct at some point in the future. It just doesn't offer enough interesting content to stay relevant.
I have never been a big soccer fan. I have no issue whatsoever with the US losing and advancing. It wasn't all about the last game. The three games all came into play. I also do not have a problem with ties.
I'm a die hard Met fan too, but if you're getting free tickets, it's an outstanding nite out. Love that ballpark. Wish we had a winner. _
NBA have had teams with losing records make it to the finals, NFL has had a team with a losing record make the playoffs. 1981 NBA WC Final both teams had losing records in the regular season.
Been hearing that since forever. Although I think next year we might have one of the best staffs in baseball. And still lose 80 games 2-0. _
Problem is I do not expect Harvey to be anything better than a mediocre pitcher in 2015. It might take him till 2016 to be great again.
