It does, but it's third after goal differential and goals scored.

after goal differential it goes to total goals for. after that, it goes to " total points achieved in matches against teams involved in tie" which to me is head to head if its only two teams tied. so US would win that over Ghana....soooo if Ghana wins 1-0 and US loses 1-0 theyd both have 4 pts, they have same goal differential, theyd both have 4 goals for so tehn it would come down to head to head which US would win. Ghana wins 2-0 and US loses 1-0, US goes home.

Am I right? I did this top of my head...Ghana ties 2-2 with Germany and US beat Ghana 2-1 right? I think Im right

so no need to worry until Ghana scores a 2nd goal, Portugal scores a 4th or US gives up a 2nd :0

I think that is dumb..... H2H should be the 1st tiebreaker. US beat Ghana enough said. I can't remember who it was last WC who failed to advance despite tying in record but beating the team they tied with H2H.

Italy is quite pissed off, found this from Chiellini who was attacked by El Canibal. he kind of echos what I've been saying in that FIFA plays favorites which is why some teams could milk a sub in extra time but for the US they add an extra minute when it only took about 30 seconds.

Chiellini believes the referee got both of these calls wrong, costing Italy a place in the round of 16 and has claimed the decision to overlook Suarez's behaviour is due to a conspiracy to keep the top players involved in the tournament.

"It's a disgrace," the Juventus defender told Sky Sport Italia. "The referee decided this game. If either team should have gone through, then it was us.

"Giving a red card to Marchisio and no red to Suarez decided the game. There was a different treatment for both sides and that decided the game and decided who went through.

"When we had 11 men, they weren't a threat at all and we were in perfect control, but then in the end, [the red card] was decisive.

"But then Suarez gets away with whatever he wants because FIFA want the top players involved. He bit me, and the sign is there. Now [FIFA] have got to have the courage to take action."

This has to be the reaction of the tournament...During Uruguay's game when Suarez went to score this is how Roy reacted...Major laughs

I wonder how often that has been replayed in England on late TV or whatever

Actually that hasn't happened once in the 32-team format yet...usually teams that tie in record wind up drawing with each other. Figures it would potentially be us that would get bitten by the stupid 'goals scored over head to head' nonsense. The tiebreakers should be goal difference, then head to head, then goals scored.

I could be wrong but I thought it bit someone in the ass in 2010. I'll have to check it out but if I'm wring I'd hate for the US to be the 1st. I think H2H should be the first tiebreaker. If I beat you then I am better than you and I deserve to advance not you. If this was a UEFA group where you play 6 games I get the GD but when you play each team once and one beats the other in the event of a two the winning team should advance, now it can't happen but obviously if the US, Ghana and Portugal tie that changes things but for 2 teams H2H should be the only tie breaker.

definitely, head to head should be first tie breaker when it's 2 teams you're breaking the tie for....alas, this is FIFA we're talking about, common sense never applies.

Greece just scored a late penalty in added time! They get second rather than Ivory Coast

lol that's a Ghana-Uruguay like finish. The African nations really don't have good luck with stoppage time penalties.

It's a foul. Not the clearest or the most dangerous but can't really complain.
