I love how somebody a troll when they disagree with a person. As for Geno that my first name. If I was such a fanboy? Show me where I have ever said Geno Smith is this great QB? Isn't that what fanboys do?
I didn't say you did or didn't. You commented and asked for someone to name a player that is in the hof that has bad stats. So I gave you one.
Lynn Swann 336 career catches, no seasons with 1,000 or more receiving yards. 51 TD receptions. Guys like Cliff Branch were not inducted when he clearly had a better career than Swann. Cliff Branch had 413 catches, 7,257 yards, and 59 TDs. He also was selected for more pro bowls than Swann and more All-Pro selections. He also had 2 seasons over 1,000 yards. Do some research and you'll find that there are plenty of guys with shitty stats in the Hall of Fame.
Maybe sounds like some UNC - Duke basketball post? (albeit without the petulant whining) As usual, you're moving the goal posts once again and why this is no longer worth my time: the contention that Namath "never got close before or after" (a quote that was enlarged, bolded and underlined) was the point that was being challanged. The call against Lammons (btw, he was a guy who played TE for the New York Jets) followed by a near TD were the features that proved the "never got close" contention was and is horseshit because they came within a whisker of tying the game in the final seconds. Never got close? Wrong, again. "I deal in reality" (sound the trumpets!). May I respectfully suggest you save the self-aggrandizing bombast for exchanges with others of your rhetorical ilk such as the other William Jennings Bryant of TGG, Big Blocker. Me, I've presented my argument and proved my point ("never came close" = wrong) so my work's done here. Adios. ; )
Those completion percentage and passer rating stats were not bad numbers when Namath played. Context, Falco. Context.
There are really none when you adjust for era and context and understand how the sport was played in the past.
Nothing is being moved, that is waht one says when they realize they don't have an argument. you are whining about a call from 45 years ago. I whine at the time, in the emotional moment of the game. Carolina has beaten duke more during my lifetime than they have lost so they made up for the losses. Joe never got us that close again. even had they beat KC they still would have had to beat Oakland again, this time on the road. In the reg season at Shea we got crushed by Oak, maybe we beat them in oak in the title game? but we couldn't beat KC at home, couldn't even score a TD regardless of bad calls. your argument is a poor one as it usual is. You are good at hurling insults to deflect though. Congrats!
That why I never bought up comp% passing yards etc. I don't care what era your in if you throw more int's then TD for a career that IMO is not a good QB.
was only top 10 in passer rating 5 times, never higher than 3rd. was only top 10 in comp % 5 s, never higher than 2nd. his #s were not good for his era or any era, in particular seasons he had some good # years but he couldn't sustain that level of play mostly b/c of durability but durability counts.
Did you read my earlier post about the other Hall of Fame QBs that would have to be removed from the Hall of Fame based on your ill informed opinion?
I know that, jus pointing that out based on your post. It's an argument I hate b/c I have to be realistic w/ the guy who most consider the best player in franchise history(though I think he was most important but not the best).
The fact you mentioned 1971 indicates you missed the whole point of the post. As for 1966, Namath took a low block vs Houston after a play should have been whistled dead. He was kept out of the next four preseason games. Ewbank wanted to get through the opener without him because they were playing an expansion team (Jets opener, but I think it was Miami's 2nd game). Taliaferro started and was so shaky that Ewbank put Namath in the game in the second half. The Jets went up 19-0 and the Dolphins added some cosmetic points late. I stand by what I wrote earlier. Until 1975 when he was decrepit, when Namath played full seasons the Jets were competitive and/or good. When Namath missed large chunks of time, the team was lost in the wilderness.
Everything was moved. "Never came close" <--- that comment of yours was wrong, period. That alone was the point of contention, period. And you did move the goalposts in an attempt to move off point. Your point was incorrect, you got called on it, period. And your follow up and desparate "insult" strawman confirms that (along with the "whining" comment, lol, nice try). Calling you out on your modus operandi of duplicity does not constitute 'insult per se. The fact remains: you "never came close" to addressing that "never came close" contention of yours--period. How many times do I have to beat that into your thick skull? You're 0-2 vs. me today. Give it up.
