I would like to watch a tie. There are not enough ties in football anymore. I dislike that college football did away with them with a lame overtime system.

I'm not too upset about the US tie last night. Very high ranked Portugal team we faced and the skills of Ronaldo are just crazy good. It was amazing that he hadn't done much of anything before that epic pass.

I was hoping like hell for at least a tie, and while it hurts it happened the way it did, I am still very happy about the outcome. Now comes Germany on Thursday. Beatable, but gonna be a tough game

You say loss and then you say tie!

    Relevant odds:

USA should root for Portugal win/draw. Portugal win is +124, draw +309, double chance odds would be like -220 (that either happens).

World Cup To Qualify Group G
    Thu 6/26 12:00PM
    Germany -10650
    USA -365
    Ghana +510
    Portugal +1050

Am I the only one pissed off at the arbitrary extra minute that they added to the arbitrary "extra time?" It was gonna be 4 mins then they upped it to 5 because, "meh...whatever."

I think they added a minute due to the Zusi substitution. There was some time wasting there.

Would I have taken a draw going into yesterday vs. Portugal? Yep. Same with Germany.
    From your lips....

Considering the circumstances, I'd take a draw with Germany in a heartbeat just like I would've gladly taken a draw against Portugal going into yesterday's game, especially after falling behind 0-1 so early.

That is an interesting take. Gotta say I couldn't disagree more strongly. I think you are definitely in the minority but I suppose I shouldn't have said "nobody wants to see a tie"

Maybe but most fans would be happy with the tie knowing that it would get the US into the KO stage. It might make for boring soccer but most games in the 3rd round are meaningless anyway. Like today, 4 games and only the Mexico/Croatia game has any real meaning.

Actually the explanation was that Graham Zusi took too long being subbed so the ref added that extra minute which is his right although in 24 years of watching soccer (I started in WC 1990) I have never seen any extra time added on for a sub taking too long. I did think he took a while but teams like Brasil, Argentina, Italy and Spain do this all the time. I could all but guarantee you had the roles been reversed and Portugal was in this situation no time would have been added. It's gamesmanship and it's crappy that the extra minute burned us.

Mexico/Croatia................ our arch rivals need a tie to advance but Croatia can KO Mexico with a win. Croatia is better than Mexico but Ochoa the Mexican goalie has been awesome.

I am in favor of the NFL doing away with regular season overtime.

I know I am in the minority. Most Americans do not like ties.

Its why they got rid of it in NHL.

Ties are good in the EPL and La Liga because they have ONE TABLE standings...In America we have so many divisions.

still can't get over last night's wasted opportunity.....what a game though. The last goal was frustrating on many levels.......Bradley has a poor touch on that ball, otherwise he could have basically just ran out the clock by shooting toward Portugal's goal or doing anything other than what he did which was completely lose possesion, But then it got worse, 4 or 5 US defenders admiring Ronaldo, watching the ball and ignoring the one guy making a run into the box, unbelievable that he was unmarked. Wasn't that Cameron's man again? terrible first 5 minutes, terrible at the end.

Yeah, the guy who scored was Cameron's responsibility.

not sure what you do or don't know about soccer, but while I understand what you're saying you 've got to realize that he is a great goalie becasue he anticipates. Sometimes he makes game saving plays with that anticipation. I thought like some did, thast he over committed on the first goal.....but it's easy to sit here and criticize when you're watching and not in the moment yourself...you've got Nani, wide open, with time to pick a corner and no d in sight........arm chair QB says, like I said at the time, just stay upright and run at him........but Nani pumped faked just so slightly as to put Tim down. Making a save there would have been incredible, that was an easy chance........Howard can't stop everything...he made a few unbelievable stops last night as it was.
