That's why this game would have been so big. We would have been a top seed opposed to plying a top seed
No...Germany would have come into the game working their butts off to win and be 1st to avoid Belgium and we would be settling with a draw as we would have already made it to round of 16. Not sure what the psyche is here but Germany was also super tired against Ghana.
We win tonight we play for a draw next week.. To lock up 1 seed. Don't know what's so hard to understand about that. Now we settle for a 2 seed and try and draw so we don't get knocked out this round. A win tonight would have been a million times better.
Um, Germany would be playing to win x 10...US can play for the draw but they would lose. I am almost 100% sure of that. Now the situation is interesting. US can be the more aggressor and Germany could concede goals yet still be in the know that at worst they advance, they have that big of a lead on GD. A win tonight would have been million times better for sure because the German game would have not been as exciting to watch. Now we see the Jurgen factor
What is Klinsmann's relationship with the German team? Has he been involved with their national team and is there any bad blood regarding his coaching here?
Their coach is essentially JK's best friend. He knows all their players but I honestly think that goes out the window. Zee Germans know a freak loss could send them home.
My thought is someone should have fouled Ronaldo coming down Obviously you don't get yourself a yellow but a foul there ends the game.
Do you think we see a very conservative game plan from both teams since a draw is beneficial to both sides? If Germany gets aggressive and the US gets them over reaching all of sudden Germany might slip to #2 in the group or even eliminated and if the opposite happens to US they could be eliminated with a Ghana win. Basically a very methodical, take your time, don't force anything type game?
A draw serves the same purpose for them as a win which is the good news, they'd win the group on goal difference anyway. The bad news is there's really no way Germany can miss the second round barring them somehow getting wasted by us and Ghana wasting Portugal, since they're so far ahead on goal difference...so they won't really have to play with fear either.
Talk about lame. 2 teams playing for a tie... ugh. Not to mention the coaches are best friends so they will ensure they tie....
They won't play for a tie, not for a while. IF the game is tied by about mid-2nd, then everything will slow down and the "let's ride it off" will be in the air.
This is pretty much it. I am sure both teams will play conservatively but again they will look for opportunities to score. The slow down prevent football will happen towards the end if at all.
expect alot of long balls into the box and long shots. I dont think we will see counter attacking football
I can't believe this--I'm not even a soccer fan and today I still feel sick to my stomach. How do we let them score with seconds left. Dammit. _
It's not really lame, it's called strategy. It might piss off both Ghana and Portugal but both teams have failed to win a game so really it's on them. BTW the reason for the two games starting at the same time is because years and years ago in WC qualifying Zee Germans laid down vs Austria ensuring the Austrians would advance. FIFA investigated and determined it was intentional. They changed some things up to ensure it wouldn't happen again.
Just imagine how it feels if you are a huge soccer fan, had you told me at the half we'd get a draw I'd have been happy but for it to happen like that; it feels like a loss.
it might be sound strategy, but it's lame for the fans. Nobody wants to watch a tie especially two teams playing for a tie.
