The worst part about this post is that it proves his point. To put it in terms you may understand, if the NFL allowed, for the sake of tradition, a New York Niggers football team to exist until today, it would've influenced the opinions of many as to whether or not the word is inherently offensive. Mascots of longstanding major sports teams are inherently perceived as inoffensive for many reasons, including perceived NFL credibility, desensitization, and pop culture influence.

And whos to say one word is worst than the other? Both are racist terms and thats the bottom line.

In the United States the word is probably the most offensive racist term, but if you go to other parts of the world (and think outside the box), a term such as "chink" would be MUCH more offensive toward a more larger population. The reason "redskin" has gotten a pass is because you dont find native americans ANYWHERE. If you were surrounded by Native Americans the word would NEVER be used, if you were surrounded by Chinese people, you would NEVER use the word "chink".

So yeah go to china and toss both slurs around and tell us which one draws the larger reaction, or go to a Indian reservation and throw the 2 slurs around and see which one is worst. It might be more offensive in the United States (outside of the reservations) but in other parts of the world it is not compared to other slurs, but in the end they are ALL racist slurs and should not be used at all. (Especially not as a name of a Sports team).

Its not even complicated, they are all racist terms, how anyone can judge which one is worse is beyond me. In America, it might draw a larger response, but I GUARANTEE you if you go to China and ask them which is worse, im sure you will find a different answer. They are all racist and it is STUPID and ignorant to say one is worse than the other.

Your an idiot, why dont YOU go to a reservation and start calling them redskins. See what happens, and of course when they are beating the shit out of you, and digging your grave, you can explain to them that the term "redskin" is fine because its the name of a football team. Im sure that will get you of the situation....(if you think so)

    Complete ignorance.

But of course there would never be a team named that because the word is so derogatory and has such a negative connotation that no team would ever want that as their name or mascot even if it were "socially acceptable" to use the word at the time. The fact that the word Redskin was taken for the name and logo of a professional sports team shows that the vast majority of people saw it as a positive word, connotating bravery, being a fierce warrior, whatever, cutting out the legs of the idea that it's somehow a racial slur used to disparage.

I just want to say I appreciate the irony that the defender of the Redskins is painting their entire people as a bunch of blood-thirsty savages that would murder without reason. At least you're hitting on the right notes for typical PC obsessed paternalistic horseshit now, phony as it may be.

Again Mr. hot shit, go to a reservation, start calling them "redskins" and see how it goes. If its not offensive as you claim, if its not racist as you claim, you should be walking out without a single problem.

I wonder if anyone, anywhere, in the history of the world has ever actually seriously called someone a redskin in a derogatory way.

Agreed. Youre outlining one of the pro-Washington Football Team Name arguments being espoused in this thread.

please Dan Snyder - just hurry and give them another boring, soul-less, gay, non-sensical name like the "Redhawks" or something to get the inevitable over with so the "PC Police" will shut the phuck up already. (at least under they find their next crusade anyway).

I wouldn't know if Redskin is offensive because I haven't seen an actual American Indian (REALLY sorry if that's an offensive term) come out and speak up about it. All I am seeing are those that continue to berate us with their politically correct b.s. speak out, those seeking a payday $$$ and those that can't help but find new reasons to wield their power (like our government officials) speak out.

even if it was the most offensive name to a handful of people, who the hell cares? It's a private football team, not a public service. You don't like it? Don't watch or root for them... seems pretty simple to me. But sadly we are going to have to hear bitching until they stop, so Go "Redhawks"!!!!

Please no Mangolden.....it's all harmless and besides, it's fun watching soxxx "ridng the crimson wave" and getting all Harvey Milk righteous about it. And soxxx, to add to Waterboy and Byz...partially Scandi myself and Viking is hardly offensive. Even here in the NYC metro area: Westchester Community College Vikings.

So from here, you've no other card to play beyond dropping trow and going ass-to-ass Skype with JS. Butt up or shut up. : )
