Haha very well played. I didn't think they had copy machines in Alabama though

Better yet, Saban emailed me HIS defense playbook as a bonus. Obviously they have copy machines down there in Alabama.

Brady is a notorious trash-talker. When I heard this story last night my first thought was that (a possibly/probably somewhat drunk) Brady said something to Smith like, "We beat you so bad last year it's almost like we have your playbook."

So Pettine hears this story and remembers Rex giving Saban a copy, and BAM. Offseason drama.

Meh, I have no doubt that Saban gave a copy of the playbook to Belichick, the real question is whether it gave them any sort of edge, and it likely didn't give them much.

So, Pettine owes his career to Rex. And Nick Saban, who is arguably one of the best college coaches ever and a Defensive guru, sought Defensive advice from Rex.

Sounds to me like Rex is pretty well esteemed, and this stuff just validates that notion.

Btw, I heard Colin Cowherd tease something before commercial today, saying, that something about Rex reminds him of Donald Sterling. Did anyone hear what he said about that?

Something about Colin Cowherd reminds me of a sniveling bitch that needs to be dunked in acid.

Haha hey, look, I definitely don't always agree with the guy, but I am curious about his commentary about Rex, because I assume it pertains to this topic, and it sounds outrageous. Not to mention, he's a Brady/Belichick/Pats ass-kisser; so I'm wondering if he put his slanted view on it.

Saban and Belichick personality wise are a lot alike. And that's not saying a lot. But they are both great coaches. NEP (aka "the cheaters") like Rex said probably don't need to do all of these kinds of things to beat the Jets. But Belichick loves to play these kinds of head games on opponents esp their chief enemy the Jets. But to give Saban our playbook is idiotic. You know it went straight to Foxboro whatever he says. I'm personally tired of these stupid things coming from Rex. There's been a million of them . Talk about distractions. He won his first two seasons but nothing since then. If you don't win not worth it.

I have a copy of Rex's Play Book for 2014-2015 if anyone wants a copy. It reads as follows:

    Page 1: Stop the run.
Page 2: Don't get beat deep.
    The End.

Another angle to this whole thing is how PISSED Belicheck must be at Brady. The Pats are a locked down organization. To have your own QB get liquored up and start bragging about having your #1 nemesis' playbook HAS to really boil Belicheck's skin. If this were any other player, they'd have been cut TODAY.

Cowherd should stick to the profession of his namesake instead of blabbering about sports he knows absolutely nothing about.

That's what I thought too. The only things that make it sound a bit legit is the fact that Belichick didn't flat out deny it, and the Jets did in fact play worse against the Patriots during that timeframe. Of course that could have to do with the declining talent on that side of the ball in '11 and '12.

It's a good point (the 2011/2012 games), but in his comments yesterday I thought Rex sort of dismissed that.

I wonder how many TOTAL plays are in an average NFL playbook. Hundreds if not thousands, right? I'm not sure, even if you had another team's playbook, that it would help you a whole lot. You'd have a lot of information to process/digest in real time. I guess you could get a feel for some of the formations as they relate to blitzes and whatnot, but Rex has almost always thrown pretty good game plans at the Patriots and a lot of that seems to be "extra" stuff outside of their playbook. They play 'em tough most of the time.

I read an article that had a link to the website, and I found a Jets playbook, and was excited to post it here. I had the link copied, and everything. Unlike most others though, I actually read through the thread to be sure I wouldn't be re-posting it, but sure as shit, there it was.

In just a couple of sentences, Pettine managed to insinuate that Rex is a naive fool, Saban is a weasel, and Belichick is a cheat.

One of those guys was his mentor, and the other 2 are multiple championship winning coaches.
not sure what his end game was here, but it's Pettine that really comes off looking bad.

He seems to me like a type of guy you'd work with.....the one always complaining, always with something critical to say about someone else, full of hyperbole, and loves stirring the pot. those are the guys/gals i try to weed out quickly, before they become overgrown and infest the place.
I'm glad he's no longer the Jets problem..
