No, most people just refuse to think for themselves and just parrot what they have read or heard somewhere, can't blame them though, that's what is taught in schools...as "learning".

Case in point when Alex Smith missed more than one TD over a badly beaten Wilson during that embarassing shutout loss to the 49ers.

Exactly. Which is an entirely fair assessment. One always has to take into account the comparision between the cost of obtaining a player and the value obtained. By that metric, Wilson has been a bust even if he remains on the roster and contributes somewhat.

By the same token those who defend him by saying he's a decent nickel are using a different metric.

Milliner kinda does that too (more so in the red zone) idk if thats just his technique or if he's just luckily in position to affect the play cuz it never looks intentional. i thought not looking back was a penalty but they never called it so. Its a weird technique though

Why do people care about the finger wagging? He celebrates a lot when teammates make plays you just dont notice because the camera isnt on him. God forbid he gets excited when the D gets to come off the field.

If he was wagging his finger because he made a great play to break up a pass and did it consistently, then most here wouldn't have a problem with it.

The reason we don't like it is because he does it AFTER he gets burnt and had noting to do with the QB overthrowing the receiver or the receiver dropping the pass.

The wagging finger, in NFL parlance, means "not in my house" or "no you don't". He thinks it means "yeah, you may have run right by me and left me in the dust but your QB couldn't hit you in stride or you dropped a wide open pass".

I don't get bothered by it, but I can understand why some would. If you're going to showboat, at least be the reason why the play was busted. Showboating by itself is pretty lame, underserved showboating is just stupid.

Because he looks like a retard when he acts like he had something to do with the incompletion?

If the entire secondary river dances off the field whenever a pass goes incomplete on third down I couldn't care. If he's covering someone and the receiver fails and he trash talks and does something to annoy him I'm fine with it. If our fans dont like it I bet the receivers dont either.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me either. I only care about how little the offense is able to do. Wilson could floss his entire digestive tract after a play and I wouldn't GAF.

But I understand why people get annoyed. You asked why people care, nobody asked why you don't.

A fair assessment? The only thing that draft position should influence is how much money a team should invest in you as a rookie. Once you get on that field it is anyones game. Draft position is so unimportant to the game it doesnt even make sense to look at it after the rookie season.

Is there some sort of rule that only top round draft picks can occupy a starting roster? Is there some rule that lower round guys/udfas cant take away playing time from the early rounders? Since there arent, and no matter how you get on the team will be playing if you are the best man for the job, draft position is meaningless to a players ability.

You might be able to say that someone is not plaging up to their draft selection potential, but what exactly is that potential? Is every guy drafted in rd 1 a star in this league? Hell are all the first rounders from even 2 years ago still playing?

Its a piece of ibfo people like to reference as if it means aomething but the only value it has is in telling you how much a team invested in that player to draft him; which woul in turn influence the amount of time the cs would invest in them.

What it has to do with evaluating a player thats been playing for years i have no idea

Is it not relevant to compare a player's performance to their draft status?

Take two players. One was a first round pick, the other a walk-on. Both perform more or less the same. Is it not relevant that the team invested more in the first rounder?

It is a question of legitimate expectations. One need not be exact in that regard. It is enough to be in the ballpark.

If you really have no idea about this stuff, I don't know how to help you.

  17. Wilson is an above average nickel corner. Nothing more & nothing less. Why does he catch so much slack? Well..I'm actually gonna sway away from my "SOJF want young Jets to bust" theory on this one.

Kyle was a REALLY good player in college. Boise State played alot of week nights the year he came out & he got alot of TV coverage. He was easily the best player on the field in almost every game I saw him in(I always root against BSU cause I hate the stinking blue field!). He was fast, dynamic, aggressive & always around the ball. He seemed like a slam dunk future #2 playmaking CB perfect for Rex's scheme. Instead..while often effective away from the action he always appears tentative & slow to react when the ball comes his way. He's been a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. Still a useful, valuable piece. But his dominance never transferred from college.

Many folks who dislike Wilson, still hold his first 2 seasons against him. He's pretty solid now. Yards per coverage snap could be a little deceiving because in the slot, receivers are more about short gains. He's definitely a top slot corner in the league, for sure. He's not actually a top 5 corner, though. I don't care if he wags his finger from time to time. I do care that he's efficient at his position.

This is why I'm hyped about this season. Laron Landry is back in the form of Calvin Pryor. It's nice to have a big scary guy lurking back there. That was what made our passing D so good in 2012 with no Revis.

Nickel back is extremely important in today's NFL with Peyton Mannings and Drew Brees' out there.

Many fans care more about nonsense like this than actual production on the field. If he keeps tight coverage and the cameras never look his way then I'm happy with his play.
