Buffon news caused a big line move. On June 2: Italy was PK -131/England +111 Closed today at Italy +127/England -142 http://news.yahoo.com/italy-keeper-buffon-england-clash-162356220--sow.html Manaus (Brazil) (AFP) - Italy's preparations for their World Cup clash with England suffered a huge blow after goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was ruled out just hours away from kick off on Saturday. Buffon limped out of a training session on Friday after suffering the knock and after receiving treatment immediately had to undergo sessions of physiotherapy late into the night.
By the way, 2022 World Cup is likely to be stripped from Qatar. Former U.S Prosecutor Michael Garcia is the head of FIFA investigation committee. So i think if this happens, it will be a race between USA and Asian countries and I expect USA to win the race. 2022 World Cup in USA will be a dream for me. Can't wait. I will most likely attend at least 6-8 games including the final. It will be the highlight of my useless life. http://www.cnbc.com/id/101758568
England better shore up their left side or they are going to get punished in the 2nd half. The youth up front is causing Italy some problem, Sterling, Sturridge and Welbeck all playing well. Crazy to think that Liverpool has 5 players currently playing for England and Llama could be there next year. We are English football!!!
Add in that German legend Franz Beckenbauer has been suspended and banned from the 2014 WC by FIFA because he refused to cooperate when approached about receiving bribes. I have a feeling it is gong to happen and I do think it's likely the US gets it as should have been the case when the initial vote was held. 12 cities to host would likely be LA, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Portland, DC, Columbus, Bay Area, Houston, Boston, KC, Miami I think Las Vegas (if we get a stadium), Orlando, Atlanta, St Louis, Phoenix, Denver, Indy and Detroit could also get games. I would think you would have have the finals in New York as it was in LA in 1994.
http://www.sportspickle.com/2014/06...erican-sports-fan-must-know-understand-soccer FIFA acronym FIFA is the governing body of international soccer. FIFA is an acronym from the French Fédération internationale de football association. It is pronounced FEE-fuh, which serves as a helpful reminder that bribe fees must be paid to top officials in exchange for favors.
The soccer offsides rule is among the dumbest in sports and is the main reasons many Americans are not excited by the sport. It limits scoring and excitement, is arbitrarily and inconsistently enforced, and it is virtually incomprehensible. I never understood why offsides in soccer was not the same as hockey with an offsides line (which would make more sense - the ball has to cross a line before the player) or lacrosse, where a certain number of players would have to stay on one side of the field (which would mean that any player that was "goal hanging" would just be covered by a defender). For me, the offsides rule , the endless flopping, and the ridiculous severity of the penalty for a foul inside the box ( a penalty kick from 10 yards away or so into a goal the size of an ocean) make the game uninteresting. I'll follow what happens in terms of scores, but I won't be watching any games. In any event, for those of you who love the sport, this is your Super Bowl and Olympics all wrapped into one, so enjoy!
Japan disappointed me, they played hard but they started to play a bit too conservative too early and it exposed them. I didn't think they shut out Ivory Coast but that 2nd goal was ridiculous, keeper absolutely has to save that. The time wasting by Ivory Coast pissed me off at the end, reminded me of Ghana against the US in stoppage time 4 years ago. The same guy was carried off twice over a 4 minute stretch and he was a sub. Should have been carded.
Reply To both you and Willie Joe... Do you guys know how baseball is viewed throughout most of the rest of the world? I can tell you that outside of US, Japan and the island it's mostly a "hit and run, what a dumb game stupidest ever". I constantly finding myself defending bbal to my old time friends and trying to explain the whole business of mental and physical duel between pitcher and the hitter, how difficult it is to throw the ball with accuracy and consistency, and how difficult it is to hit it. The point that I'm making is that bbal is a great game but they don't get it simply because they don't see it the right way, don't understand the intricacies. And then I turn on the radio, or read how stupid and incomprehensive futbol is. Seriously? This is 150+ years game. The football (American version) came from it, years later. Just because YOU don't understand or enjoy it doesn't mean the rules don't make sense. There is a reason for them and the unnaturality goes away when you grew up watching it and .... Not understanding the rules, but feeling them. The offside rule is as natural to me as infield fly out rule to you. Now to the specifics... The FIFA is IMO the most corrupt sports body in the world. I believe there are and always were fixed games and fixes tournaments. I think FIFA's refusal to increase use of technology is intentional and borderline criminal. And I HATE diving. I despise Italy and Colombia teams for constantly making every contact look like someone torn their legs out. I dream when someone will get balls to use instant replay to weed out this bullshit. Futbol is not for pussies. It's a very challenging game, both physically and mentally, and I hate seeing how these grown men flop. I want flopping to be punishable by a card - no arguments, no talking. If you jump 5 feet in the air and roll on the ground for 10 minutes in pain, your fucking leg is better be broken! Because somebody is getting a red -- either your opponent for breaking your leg, or you for shitting on the game and its fans. Now all that said.... Is it really much different than Brady bitching to refs about being touched, or Lebron kissing the floor? Is PK in soccer that much different from a foul in a basketball given at a critical time? Does the offside rule really more idiotic than the stupid trapezoid behind hockey goal. Is FIFA that much more corrupt than Gary Batman who instituted above mentioned trapezoid because of one goaltender and one team in the whole league who was great at handling the puck? And is their corruption is worse than the World Series scandal of 1919? My point is that it's ok to not get it and not appreciate it. But please stay away from blatantly shitting on something you don't get, you sound exactly like my European friends passing snobby opinions about baseball without ever even trying to hit 80 mph ball in a betting cage.
Whoa whoa whoa I'm not blatantly shitting on anything. I've actually enjoyed watching this event. My kids all like soccer and we've had the coverage on constantly. I appreciate the sport and the event. I'm just joking about the offsides, I don't get it but I respect that that's the rule. I'm a novice stupid American when it comes to soccer offsides, but I'm not blatantly shitting on anything. I didn't agree with JWWSs entire post, just the offsides rule. _
Sorry if I'm not getting all "global warm & fuzzy" about the World Cup, but don't I have the right--right or wrong--to take a shot at soccer? Portugal is in the same so-called 'Group of Death' as the United States and Woody and the Jets roll out the red carpet for a team that's looking to beat our brains in? And what was with these "friendly" matches involving foreign countries being played here on U.S. soil? Who the hell wants to see Ireland put out a slap-dick-team-as-sparring-partner for Portugal? Is FIFA picking up the tab for the expenses involved with these "friendies" (security, traffic control, etc.)? Fuck Ronaldo the Flopper, fuck Portugal, fuck Germany and Ghana too. Fuck Mexico (who backed into the WC thanks to the U.S.), fuck Brasil, fuck Croatia, fuck the Cameroons, fuck Spain, fuck Columbia, fuck Greece, fuck Cote d'Ivoire (those French-fucking rapists), fuck the Netherlands, yes, the Dutch, fuck them especially…… Fuck England, fuck Italy, Costa Rica and Ecuador, and while we're on the subject, fuck Switzerland, France and Honduras. Fuck Uruguay and fuck Belgium, period. Continuing…fuck Bosnia and Herzegovina, fuck Australia, fuck Iran, fuck Nigeria, fuck Argentina, fuck Algeria, and fuck Korea. Fuck Sweden. What's that?…they're not in the World Cup? Who cares? Not including Henrik Lundquist, fuck Sweden. And fuck Russia. Fuck 'em all. That is all : )
Man, You just fucked entire world All kidding aside, I agree with RuJFan's perspective. Sports have their long established rules. To me, soccer will lose its dynamism if offside rule is cancelled. All forwards will flock in front of the goalie and defenders will stick with them and midfield play will die. But that's just me. Also as a Turkish guy, I am being mocked by my Turkish friends for watching American Football and baseball. To them, those sports are played only in America and a few other countries. There is a reason those sports didn't become World Sports. They even make fun of my Jet fandom. They can't believe I am dedicating my Sunday's to Jets and I spend money to go to games. One of my friends is a car salesman and he even game me 2 Giants tickets from Section 114(40 yard line) as he got the tickets as a gift from Brandon Jacobs after selling him the car he wanted with a discount. He said he can't even think about watching the game in the stadium so gave me the tickets. He also gave me play off Yankee tickets as he won them for selling the most cars in a week and his car dealer gave him the tickets as a gift for winning the competition. Sports culture is interesting. I love all sports including Olympics. Maybe I am a sports junkie that's why. But futbol is really beautiful. Futbol rivalries are to die for.
There might be still a couple of penguins somewhere deprived of the pleasures of his dick Yeah I still remember my home team bending your Galatasaray on the way to Euro cup that was 30 years ago though, they sucked balls since then
Hmm. I probably won't remember 30 years ago since I am 35 but if you tell me what team is yours I might look it up.
Dinamo Kiev It was 3-0 if memory serves. There were 2 runs, we went through Galatasaray in 86, I think.
Oh 1986-1987 Season. Dynamo Kiev was a powerhouse. You guys won the Europen Cup Winners Cup. And you went thru Besiktas, another Turkish team. You won 5-0 in Turkey and ended up winning the cup. You guys didn't play us in a meaningful games in 1980's as far as I remember.
