im so done with Donovan...Even if we get swept in the World Cup...Think bigger picture and long term here. Landon is a good player and probably deserves a spot over most guys but Klinnsman has a plan. Plus Donovan went like 16 weeks without a goal in MLS until this past week
I'm ok with Donovan not being on the roster, I just think it's always better to let go of an aging star early than to hold onto him. There was obviously more to it than a few guys being ahead of him but there are plenty of players who got snubbed by their respective teams. Landon had a great run but Klinnsman knows a hell of lot more than I or the media do. The guy wants to win at all costs and isn't going to risk losing over politics.
Guess whose coming to MLS...Specifically my NEW club NYCFC...aka peace out NJ Red Bulls http://www.espnfc.com/news/story/_/...letico-madrid-david-villa-source-says?cc=5901
http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2014/05/31/frank-lampard-to-nycfc-david-villa/ Frank Lampard also officially joining NYCFC I CANT WAIT
Both David Villa and Frank Lampard are huge names. Man City connection will at least bring good names to the team.
I was thinking about you today.... did you head to the game? It was @ Red Bulls Stadium right? NYC FC certainly looking to become quality right away. I think this is bad for the Red Bulls, I don't see how the market is big enough for both teams and NYC FC certainly could become the draw with signings like this.
Hey Barry I hope you are doing well. Planning on another Vegas trip during Football season. I made over 800 bucks over football bets last time I was there and the experience was like non other. 8 giant screens showing all the games at the same time takes the football experience to a whole new level. Also the key is to get 8 bottles of beer in a bucket before 10 AM as it is considered happy hour for football Sundays. I put all 8 beers in a big bucket full of ice and enjoyed my beers for 7 straight hours while watching football. Planning on repeating the whole thing again and I hope I am this lucky next time so I pay for my trip. Now to your question. No I didn't go to the game. And while watching the game, I was rooting for USA. Just one reason. Turkey is ruled by a dictator and this Turkish National team is managed by one of his associates. Since then, I am not supporting Turkish National Team. That said, I liked what I saw from the US Team. Good offense but so so defense. They need to improve their D if they want to advance.
A bracket with some computer modeling. I will be rooting for either Brasil and Argentina. If both make the finals I will be rooting for Argentina.
Success is totally assured. These guys dont mess about. Rumours also about Xavi but that might be a year too early.
I guess Xavi will depend on the new Barca coach. The one departed didn't use Xavi towards the end and Xavi wasn't happy about it. Xavi is a brain. He is the real deal but don't think Barca will let him go this year.
Wahey! Swindon Town's very own Massimo Luongo is in the Australia squad. Our first representative at the World Cup since the mighty Norwegian Jan Aage Fjortoft.
He may have been on the team I saw get beat by Italy in 1994, Baggio scored the only goal of the game
Ugggghhh. Loved Baggio but like Beltran, I can't forget him putting that shoot out kick over the crossbar in 1994. _
Wow Stokes I didn't know you were following soccer. That was a heartbreaker for me as well. He brought Italy to the final and in the end, he caused Italy to lose the final. Roberto Baggio was my hero and he is still one of the few I miss watching.
Not a huge soccer fan but I'll put the World Cup on in the backround every 4 years, especially if my native country is playing. Yeah, that was a heartbreaker, I can still see that kick sailing high. _
Before villa plays in ny he will play 10 games for a local A league Melbourne City now owned by man city, looks like the marquee sign ups will float beetween various teams owned by man city
Okay Game day today. I never skipped a World Cup opener since 1986. Took a vacation day today and doing my own little tailgate at home. The weather isn't helping definitely but it will be good regardless. Go Jets!, ugh, wrong section. Go USA and Argentina.
I've heard their stadium is made of Jenga blocks. They better make sure there is air conditioning, no way any pro athlete can finish a game without it.
I hate Brazilian soccer byz. I despise them. I hope they lose at home and get crushed by Argentina. That would be a dream come true for me. On the other hand, they upgraded most of their stadiums so hopefully A.C's will be working even though games are played in open air stadiums.
yeah, I'm pissed I'm missing out here.......just started a new job last week so can't be banging in sick already....but usually i would be home watching games all day on opening day of the WC. USA! & Forza Italia! and once again to add fuel the the fire that has since burned out............Donovan needed to be on this team, they are going to get skunked.....although I guess Donovan can't really help on the defensive end, lots of holes in the back.
