Rex didn't espouse much in his post OTA presser yesterday.

Asked if he had spoken to Goodson lately.

“The thing I know, in this camp, it’s voluntary,” Ryan said. “He hasn’t been here. He volunteered not to be here. And I’ll volunteer to not answer the question.”

“It is voluntary workouts,” Ryan said. “Personal things come up for different players. It’s the way it’s set up. It’s voluntary. Do I like guys being here? Of course.”

His court date was pushed backed to next week...June 12th.

I'm assuming he's healthy...I wonder if the Jets told him to stay home till thing's are settled.

I'd take him over Powell if he was healthy. More upside, Powell is what he is. Unfortunately with the legal issues and coming off his injury he's most likely not going to be here much longer.

Really? What upside is there to an injury prone RB with substance abuse related issues is there?

He should be and likely will be shortly. We have better backs already, he can't stay healthy, has legal issues...no thanks.

Not to mention a possible conviction. I think most people were counting on him being a 1 year rental after the highway incident, and what that rental turned out to be was 7 carries for 61 yards and no touchdowns, plus an ACL and MCL tear.

Combine that with the fact that he hasn't bothered to contact the team, if you believe what Rex was saying, and the guy is just a loser in all senses of the word.

he has been done for a while, that is one of the reasons we were aggressive in the RB market.

mmm...he can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Seriously, I was hoping he could straighten his shit out and add something to our offense.

He's got a 4.7 yrd average on career rushes (8.7 for the NYJ)..last time I looked, that was fairly good.

To me substance abuse issues in NFL players are only a problem to the extent that someone is addicted or stupid enough to get caught on a drug test and miss games. These guys aren't designing the first manned mission to Mars, if a guy can stay in peak physical condition and be aware enough to remember his playing responsibilities that have been drilled into him for his whole life it's whatever. Obviously you don't want character issues on your star players with $30M contracts to potentially lose their contribution, but you can't realistically hold every roleplayer to the same lofty standards in every area on and off the field.

The Jets roster is lucky enough to have a lot of strength in the first 2 RBs and Powell is a decent 3rd option, but he's nowhere near Goodson in terms of ability. I'd rather see Goodson on the team along with Powell and Chad Young at FB, then if Goodson f's up or gets injured again you fall back to Powell as 3rd option. Then probably just use one less WR on the roster who is a non-essential ST contributor, and hope they don't get snapped up off the practice squad.

I think Idzik went out of his way to emphasize that he 'expects Mike to be a Jet' when questioned rather than going into his usual 'competition' rant. It would be sort of weird to say that and then cut him if he does nothing else wrong after this point. Can't speak to the state of his pending conviction, but even if he missed part of the season for that I'm not sure much changes.

I totally forgot about Mike Goodson! Is he still on the roster? Probably a moot point either way; even if he's still kicking around, what are the chances he beats out Chris Johnson, Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell, or Daryl Richardson? Do you think they would carry 5 RBs?

Daryl Richardson is an undersized scrub of an NFL back. I'll take Goodson all day over Richardson if he can get his shit together. Giant if.

Another draft pick down the drain. It is because of the stupidity of the owner & the people he has hired is the reason we have not overtaken the Pats in the last 15 years

The Jets didn't draft or trade for Mike Goodson, they signed him as a free agent.

Rex defends his players more than anyone and the fact that even he is showing his displeasure with Goodson is pretty telling. He must be a real tool. He will be cut -early in TC

Less than 15 years ago the stupid owner did hire Bill Belichick fwiw. And not cutting ties with Parcells altogether after 1999 was the problem.

He just pled not guilty on the 21st I believe, but I haven't seen them report the trial date anywhere.
