His history of holding out and holding teams hostage will definitely put a damper on his value.

Certainly one reason he wanted to go to NE I am guessing is so that he plays against shitty QBs more than one third of the season, that can't hurt.

He is making $11.49M a year over the next 5 years, last I checked that was less than $12M.
It does keep the CB market ridiculously overpriced though so that should make Revis happy.

It's the 40M guaranteed that stands out, not the per year amount.

What stands out to me is the extension was done leaving this year at just over $1.4M. Do we know how much is guaranteed for injury?

Also, is it guaranteed at $10M/yr and the rest is incentives, are those incentives easily reached?

Anyway keeping this on topic, I doubt Revis is jealous.

Yeah, but they also cut him a 12M signing bonus check. So really he is making more like 13.5 this year.

I don't think Revis is jealous. He made 16 mil last season, which is more than Sherman will be making this year. Revis could have gotten similar money but he choose to sacrifice it to go to a winning team with a proven offense. Don't get me wrong, Seattle's a winner too, but I feel they over payed him a little bit. Sherman's good, but I don't think he's as good as Revis, and feel without the beastly pass rush in Seattle, he'd get burned more often.

I'm sure Revis is really jealous right now.

In reality its a 4 year deal at $14 million per year.
Considering that Sherman was already locked in this year at at a low salary and Seattle did not need to extend him the deal is in reality a 4 year $56 million extension or $14 million per year. A pretty healthy sum especially considering the guaranteed money.

The $11M signing bonus was paid already or will be shortly and he will be paid a salary of $1.43M, $10M, $12.57M, $11.43M and $11M over the next 5 years.
It was an extension, it incorporates the current contract and adds to it so to say it is $56M over 4 years is really not a true indication. Had they waited until after the year to do the new contract chances are it would not be $56M, it would probably be in the $45M range, possibly a little more since it may have been a little discounted due to them doing it before the current contract was up but I doubt it would have been over $50M.

Had they not done the extension and given him an extra $11M this year it could have shaken out very differently after the season was over.

Yes, but capwise it's not that bad. It's still more than a CB is worth but Seattle was humped no matter what they did given the number of young good players on the roster.

it's unclear when the bonus is paid. If it's paid after June 1st it doesn't pro-rate on 2014 and so the cap numbers go up more in the latter 4 years. Something John Clayton wrote today made me think it might be a June 1st payment. He said Sherman still had a 3.676 cap number this year.

So Sherman now gets more money and has double the twitter followers? Yeah Revis has to be mad.

Rex & New York made Revis. Sherman made Sherman.

LOL. Revis is one of the best corners in the history of the game. Sherman is a good zone corner.

We'll see, but I think Revis lost a step.

He is directly responsible for at least 3 losses last seaon, all to NFC teams:
    1) Larry Fitzgerald taking him to the house on, "the island"
    2) getting his shit blocked in by panthers on Thursday night football
    3) the last game of the season at New Orleans getting burned deep, twice, for Tds

Two seasons ago only one team would trade a first for him. One season later that team offloaded his bloated contract. Rex, built Revis. Revis responded with big play on the field. That was 3 seasons ago. He was no "pro bowler" last season. He's far from where he played in '09 & '10.

Again, shitty scheme, shitty coaching, coming off an ACL. And he really didn't have as bad of a season as you're making it out to be.

And the entire reason that only one team would trade for him was because of ridiculous contracts.

The entire reason that only one team would trade for him is that there are very few teams that are believers in the idea of a Franchise CB. The Patriots signed him because they had the space for the year and Belichik is very worried that Brady is going bad on him.

I'm not even sure if there's a real term "Franchise Cornerback", and I'm quite sure you wouldn't be trying to coin it if a certain retard franchise hadn't vastly overpaid a CB a few years before their demented own kicked the bucket.

Now it will take at least a decade of thumb-screwing player agents to bring CB cap value down to earth.
