According to this article, the Jets have the 23rd best roster in the NFL. Once again, the experts think the Jets have no talent. http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/11012674/nfl-ranking-rosters-all-32-teams
If Geno turns out that roster goes from 23rd to 12th overnight. It's just one of those things. If you're not set at QB you will almost never be in the top half of rosters in the NFL.
Not too crazy. The Jets have a bunch of potential, but until they play well, you can't call this roster very talented
Say it again, we are still two years away from making a dent. Geno becomes consistent and we will go way up this list.
Key word bolded. That sums up our team in a nut shell We can go 6-10 or worse or we can go 10-6 or better it all depends on all these what if's...What if Geno takes strides... Millner... Dowling/Peterson... Draft picks...time will tell
Why two years away? Maybe we can't contend this year but we have an outside shot at the playoffs. Either way, we should certainly be in a position to contend next year if the pieces fall into place. NFL teams don't go through 5+ year rebuilds anymore; a team can go from mediocre to elite in an offseason or two. Hopefully the Jets don't have to wait until 2016 to contend. Then again, Br4d is probably right; it's all about Geno.
I don't see the talent as being bad. Two years ago it was bad. Last year it was mediocre. This year it is good. If the Jets fail to make the playoffs, then I will return to wanting Ryan fired.
I put them closer to 15th. 23rd is low based on what they did last year and the upgrades on offense. At least they're not ranked 32nd. It'll be fun to prove them wrong, once again.
i'd say 23rd in talent is about right at this point. We have more questions than answers and it's hard to say if we'll improve upon last year's record. If last years class of Geno, Milliner, and Winters improve quite a bit, we'll vault up those rankings. then if we get a surprise or two between Hill, Ford, Davis, Patterson, Dowling, Breno, Campbell, Barnes, etc, or some of this years picks, we'd be in a good position to contend. at this point, who really knows with all those guys. it will be an interesting camp to see how things progress, but no way would i claim this team to be top half of talent at this stage.
On paper, the Jets have a great defensive line and are average at best virtually everywhere else, including quarterback, which is the most important spot on the field. Most of the players are young, so there's room for upside, but as others have said, at this point it's potential.
Sorry I don't have the exact link but here's Cimini's take: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/39635/pff-jets-rank-among-bottom-third-in-talent Zero elite starters; not even Mo. Bottom third in the league at the moment. Yet Dimitri Patterson is a "good starter," apparently. Thoughts?
This is about where the Jets were during the regular season as I recall. So in effect their take is the off season has not really improved the team. I'd like to think that's not the case, but I can't say it surely isn't.
Eric Decker should be high quality D'Brick should be average based off last year Dawan Landry should be below average Chris Johnson should be middle pack Damon Harrison belongs where he does, if he had pass rushing moves that'd qualify him for elite but he doesn't so its the proper spot.
Unless some extreme bad luck, they will improve, but heading into the season every player is a wait and see type thing. Geno, wait and see if he improves. Dee, wait and see if he improves. Patterson, wait and see if he can stay healthy. Pryor, Amaro, wait and see if they can contribute. Decker, wait and see if he can handle the #1 WR role and have a QB. Vick, wait and see if he takes the job. CJ2k, wait and see how he is used and if he is effective. There are plenty more like this around the team, but I can see why PFF was hesitant to mark these guys as upgrades. A lot of them have some upside, it's just that there is something that makes you hesitate from saying they are going to improve and instead say they might improve. Patterson, Vick is injuries, Vick and Decker is opportunity, Vick and CJ is age, Pryor and Amaro is youth, Dee and Geno is bad play from last year/positive endings. Too much up in the air.
Chris Johnson was 11th in yards among RB's last year in a league with 32 teams. I don't know how that equates to below average, but the people writing up the stories probably need to rethink their criteria. Chris Ivory is ranked higher than Chris Johnson? Why? How? What? Mangold is only a "good" starter? Really?
It sure does seem like an inordinate amount of question marks this off season, but i think that is accurate. And ftr while I understand that Patterson has the inside line to start at #2Cb, that is hardly a settled matter. So we can add that as well.
