Lol. I want to see a poll like this: What would you rather watch? SportsNation or reruns of Sanford and Son? I'd bet most of the people that voted didn't watch a single playoff hockey game and more than likely have never watched a hockey game live or on TV in its entirety, and probably couldn't tell you what that blue line on the ice means. The lack of exposure to hockey in most of the country is why basketball and a lot of other sports are regarded more highly. Means nothing to the topic in this thread.
it's espn, it's a sports site. I'm not a poll person but I find it funny that the "greatest postseason sport" would lose to the "boring NBA". People know about hockey, this isn't team handball. everyone has access to hockey games in this Country. They should have better access and a real Nat'l network deal but the NHL is very poorly run but even w/ that enough people are exposed to it.
Did you even bother to look at the location of the states that were majority for each sport? You know, that poll you just posted? I've lived all over this country and I know that something simply being on TV doesn't qualify as "exposure to the sport". Any kid that has a ball and a hoop can be exposed to basketball at a young age. Which is all over the country, and reinforced by the sports networks all day long. Only in states where the local bodies of water freeze and kids throw blades on their feet do they get any real exposure to hockey. And only in some of those places. You're making a stupid argument.
roller hockey is popular to play in warm weather places and they do actually have ice indoors where they can play ice hockey. Just like people in cold weather cities can swim in pools, people in warn weather cities can play ice hockey! again, I like hockey. probably going to one of the games at MSG but I'd still rather see a basketball game and apparently the majority of folks in that survey agree
I'm envious. I'll be slumming it at homecourt during the NBA finals on Thursday and Sunday, but hopefully not the following Sunday. As far as roller hockey... LMFAO.
From May 12th, 2014 Which is the best sport to watch IN PERSON? From August 23rd, 1996 Would you rather? Be able to read minds Fly Become a dragon Talk to animals
I am crossing off the major championships, after this all I need to see is a SB live and I will wait until the Jets make it(or never go). I hope Danny wins a title, he would have been MVP had Allen not hit that shot last year.
He's a great kid. Pop cut him a couple of times and he fought his way back onto the team and has become a key player. He gets cold every once in a while, but I'm counting on him to sack up and be what he was meant to be this series.
NBA Finals Tickets 11 Percent Cheaper For Series Than 2013 June 03, 2014 3 Comments By Nick Tranfagla As the series shifts to Miami for Games 3 and 4 this year, the average secondary ticket price will continue to rise. Game 3 Miami Heat ticketscurrently have an average price of $774.93, a 5.7 percent jump from last year’s Game 3 average of $733.48 at the AT&T Center. Game 4 NBA Finals tickets have an average of $857.10 this year but will see an 18 percent drop in comparison to last year’s Game 4 While this year’s Finals will see a lower average ticket price, fans shouldn’t expect any drop-off in level of play between San Antonio and Miami. As the two teams meet for just the second time in the NBA Finals this year, both will look to add yet another Larry O’Brien Trophy to their long and storied franchises. __________________________________________________________ Average ticket price for the Stanley Cup Finals game #1 at the Staples Center in L.A.: $880.00 'Average' …..AVERAGE ticket price for the Stanley Cup Finals game #3 at Madison Square Garden: $2,200.00 The money talks, the bullshit walks..
Speaking of bullshit, I'm sure the fact that there are 4 times as many people in NYC as there are in Miami and San Antonio combined has no effect on the ticket prices.
I never buy those inflated #s, those are usually stubhub type places and what people are ASKING for tickets, those prices always come down the closer you get to a game. check out the TV ratings and see who will be watching these series w/ the top 2 TV markets in the NHL against much smaller market teams in the NBA Finals.
ok, do spongebob reruns beat those 2? does the NBA postgame show beat those two? they beat the NHL. we are comparing 2 sports not 2 TV shows. The NHL has a HUGE edge w/ the markets of the 2 teams in the Finals. let's see how they do.
The point is, obviously there are people who think what is essentially not one of the "big 3" sports is something worth shelling out serious Super Bowl type dough for; a ticket (according to you) to one of the 'minor' (like soccer) sports. Number of people doesn't equate to number of fans particularly when it's a 'minor' sport that's involved. But more than that, the point of this thread was "what's a better show live?" and the NHL's running away from it. Myself, I don't care if you don't like it or not-that's your call. And I don't care to convert you as you've cynically assumed in this thread. And speaking of cynical, just because the overwhelming majority here chose 'hockey,' that doesn't make them a bunch of "hipsters in flannel from Brooklyn" or "eurotrash" or "engaging in douchebaggery" and all the other snide shit you cynically called 'em. The overwhelming numbers don't support your point of view, period. - Therefore those numbers are only inflated simply because YOU say so, because anything that's to be considered "ordained knowledge" can only be based on the gospel according to YOU? Got it. - Weren't you the person that cited ESPN as a source? The "$2,200.00" average tix price source: ESPN, not Stubhub. Got it?
I deal in reality, you can pretend all you want. You should know who I cited as a source since you are a great follower of mine. Look it up in your archives. if the NHL is "a better show live" why are they probably not even the 4th most popular sport in this Country?
I guess we know what was on your word of the day calendar for today. But what happened to all the "money talks, bullshit walks" bravado of your previous post? Was that really all it took to get you to abandon your previous point and start flailing about throwing shit on the wall to see what sticks?
Having to resort to getting personal with your stale 'follower of' canard just because you've been exposed will not excuse the fact that you cited "SportsNation" (with its big, easy-to-recall colorful map) which is an ESPN show. Stop digging and (looking at this thread), stop following me around.
