They were released within a year of each other, it's not like climb tower kill bad guys is some mind blowing plot that's never been conceived before. I agree the Raid is better in terms of action choreography if you're into that sort of thing but the setting and characters in Dredd are much more interesting, plus no subtitles.
Just finished In Bruges. I stopped it after 30 minutes because the beginning is really drag-ass, plus I'm not a Colin Farrell fan, but I gave it another chance, glad I did. Good movie.
In about 6-8 months watch it again, it's brilliant, you'll appreciate it even more. Brendan Gleeson is one of my favorites and Ralph Fiennes plays a great character. "YOU'RE an inanimate object!!" _
I re-watched Romper Stomper and This is England the other day, might enjoy those if you haven't seen them and feel like going on a skinhead movie binge. Romper Stomper is pretty nasty and Russell Crowe does well.
I watched Dredd on Friday and Raid:Redemption today... Aside from the most basic of plotlines, there's really no similarity. Neither one was heavy on depth or dialogue, but 3rd's right, they actually bothered to develop characters in Dredd. I've seen some fanboyism for Raid:Redemption (because of Raid 2) recently and I don't get it. Yeah, the final fight with Mad Dog was pretty good, but not all that. I preferred the 10 man fight in Ip Man and the hallway fight in Oldboy waaaaayyyyy more than that one.
Good job guys. Watch Draiiid or Raid:Functoction because they are so awesome yet eschew The Proposition or Gone Baby Gone because they aren't action flicks. Geezuz. _
I'm really bad at getting stuff like this the first time I really had no idea what was going on but I thought the ideas were interesting. I watched it again a few years later and it made a lot more sense but I think there were 2 versions of the movie so I may have just gotten the shitty cut the first time.
Maybe it's because I am a nutjob, but I catch these intended schizo storylines fast, possibly just with a few well disguised turns of phrase. The end of the movie denied me the confirmation that I wanted, but I enjoyed it far more because of that. This one might actually rank up there with Snatch for me, not enough for Lock Stock, though. Must admit though that Fight Club had me hanging until the reveal scene. I was younger than thirty, but it still threw me.
You like foreign flicks? La Orfinato The Skin I Live In the original Swedish dragon tattoo movies. And Lincoln.
Have you seen The Lives of Others? Best foreign film I've seen. Number 53 on IMDBs Top 250. Outstanding movie. _
Saw the dragon tattoo movies, they were all twice as good as the one American remake. Checking out the Orphanage and the Skin I Live In now. Heard good things about the latter from a co-worker a while back.
