I would rather have a losing season with Geno at the helm and then we know we HAVE to get a QB in next year's draft, rather then a winning season with Vick who is not going to be with us in 2015 and us going into the off-season not knowing what to do in terms of QB.

Don't get me wrong, I want to win and I want to win now.. But I am willing to sacrifice a few winning seasons and build this team with the right pieces. Playing Geno will help us determine if he is a part of this puzzle.

Absolutely. I don't know why this is such a difficult concept for some here.

That would be even more funny if it didn't make you look like an idiot for not understanding my point.

I understand your point. You're arguing a point that no one is making. The Jets have come out and said that Geno is the starter. They believe in Geno but they brought in Vick as an insurance policy in case Geno stinks in camp and preseason. Or if he has another November like stretch this year. THATS IT. This is Geno's job to lose. Once again the starting quarterback of the 2014 NY Jets is Geno Smith.

le quart partant des Jets de New York est géno smith

This is so 2013. There is no way in hell the Jets are going to start Geno if the cost is a losing season. Not with Vick available. Vick is no guarantee of a winning season but if Geno looks like he's going to lose games for the Jets next year he's going to be on the bench instead.

If Geno was a 1st round QB the equation might be a bit different but he's not. He was drafted in a range where teams often accept the fact that they got a backup QB out of the deal if that's what the performance looks like.

Uh, Nagle is also making a similar point.

I think whether a decision on who starts ignites a Qb controversy is relevant to the decision.

Well, when we see a controversy developing this will all be relevant. I doubt the scenario because there are too many cut outs that will happen before we get there, the most simple being that if the Jets are still wondering if Geno is good to go at the start of the season he won't be starting for them.

It would ignite a controversy under the following circumstances.

    1. If Vick is clearly the better QB and they start Geno anyway

    2. Or Vick comes out and says the wrong things.

Your logic is that any decision to start Geno will ignite a controversy.

They've all come out and said that it's Geno's job. Including Vick. Geno will get all or at worst 90% of the first team reps in camp.

Ftr, I am not predicting a Qb controversy since among the likely scenarios only one would be likely to lead to a controversy. If Vick starts, no controversy. If Smith outplays Vick and starts, no controversy. If both are equal and Smith starts, assuming the perception is that among hte players, then probably no controversy.

But if the players think Vick plays better, and the FO thinks he did but not "enough" better, then there could well be one. Since I expect Vick to outplay Smith by a significant margin, however, I do not expect a controversy. Assuming that means he starts.

That is literally what you're implying. Every time anyone suggests that Geno should be or could be the starter. Your rebuttal is some implied controversy if Geno starts over Vick.

"But if the players think Vick plays better, and the FO thinks he did but not "enough" better, then there could well be one. Since I expect Vick to outplay Smith by a significant margin, however, I do not expect a controversy. Assuming that means he starts."

Last year they stayed with Geno when he went into a major slump, And he eventually played better. The question is will they regularly take Geno out of a game when he plays poorly or stick with him. You would have to think with the Jets paying Vick about 5 mil they would take Geno out very quickly. The question is does he get his job back the next week or is Mike the starter after a bad Geno half or game. The Jets org doesn't seem to know you keep getting different messages from the HC (of course) the OC, Mike himself, etc. I think if Mike plays well he stays. But longevity is still a big thing with Mike. He's injury prone esp the way he plays the game.

Are you high or something? Do you intend to stay at such a low level all week? If so, you should probably take it off instead.

I just don't see the situation where Geno is playing poorly and gets on the field in the first place. People are way over-complicating the situation at this point. The Jets are going to have a starting QB going into the season and that guy is going to play until he gets hurt or the team starts losing with him at QB.

Everybody understands that a team with two starting QB's has no starting QB. This isn't going to be a long drawn out process. Geno will either have something going in OTA's that carries over into the preseason or he won't. If he doesn't Vick is going to start and nobody is going to be asking questions about that.

The bold is true. These guys are thinking up weird scenarios that more than likely won't happen.

"What we have here, is failure to communicate."

That may be due to the fact everyone is using subjective rather than objective criteria. Perhaps addressing the situation on a 100 point scale would help. I don't think anyone thinks Vick gets the job if he grades out at 90 while Smith is at 88, but how much spread is necessary to unseat Smith? Is the difference between 95 and 85 the same as the difference between 85 and 75 or is there a bottom number that would strongly push one out of consideration for starting the season?

What is poorly? Who is to say Vick plays well? I see almost no scenario barring injury or a complete multi turnover every preseason game meltdown where Vick starts. It is an incredibly shortsighted and bad idea for the long term success of this team. And it really drives me nuts that so many assume Vick is a better QB today than Smith. The subtle hatred of Geno is really annoying.

The guy was by every metric perhaps the worst Qb's to start a whole season in memory. Why does that sort of observation in your view have to be based on "hatred"?

As for comparing him to Vick, every NFL fan who follows the game, other than some segment of Jet fans, knows that Vick is the better Qb. The only question is how much better.

Which Vick? The one we saw years ago, last year or today? Today is the ONLY one that matters and we don't know who that is.
