They got a highly versatile defensive lineman in Easley. He can play 3 technique in 4-3 fronts and 5 technique in 3-4. He is a bit of a risk with the multiple injuries but they obviously were pretty confident considering he worked out for them. They also probably got the heir apparent to Brady. I'd hazard a guess that Brady is a Patriot for 2014 and 2015, and retires following that year. Garoppolo was my top #5 QB, and with 2 years learning behind Brady don't be even the slightest bit surprised if he has a seamless transition to the starting role.
OT could be a major problem for them. They have lots of talent but a very real hole at that position if you ask me.
My two winners of this draft were either Baltimore or St. Louis, although one would hope St. Louis had an amazing draft considering their picks. Here are my thoughts on the division. Dolphins - decent first two rounds and a terrible second half. They got a couple guys that could be good for them, but the second half of their draft was horrendous. My brother in law, a HUGE Dolphins fan, was pretty ticked off about their draft. That says a lot to me Bills - decent overall. I thought the trade up for Watkins was a mistake. They gave up a lot for a guy who is unproven and who could very well be a bust. The problem with the that trade is if Watkins becomes just good, they messed up. He needs to become GREAT to justify that trade. The rest of their draft was OK. Patriots - terrible. I don't know what they were doing. They took a guy who has tremendous upside in the first round, but also has had two torn ACL's, which is a very scary thought. They took Gorrapolo very high. Granted, I love the guy, but not for New England. That was a wasted pick, in my mind, at a position that won't be a need for another three to four years. The rest of their draft was average again. All in all, I thought we had the best draft. We took the best safety in the draft, in my opinion, and the second best TE. We didn't reach for a TE in the first round, which was nice, and we got a guy who is enormous and catches passes like nobody's business. I loved that. We also had some great later round picks, including McDougle, who if healthy, could be a GREAT pick. We took much needed receivers and much needed defensive backs. We now have a fearful safety manning the secondary paired with a vicious front seven. I gave our draft a solid A.
Giving up an extra 1st round selection for Watkins isn't justifiable 8 or 9 times out of 10. Giving up your best WR for no compensation to make room for Watkins on the squad makes it completely retarded and dooms Buffalo's draft. Pats draft is really boom or bust with a strong chance of trending towards bust. The problem is they won't know how it works out for a few years, have to give them a better than average shot of developing the QB like they want given the Montana---->Young factor but I have to say it's still a risky shot in the dark at best to be betting on late 2nd round QBs in this day and age. If Easley spends his career on IR the Pats add 0 growth to the team but if he beasts it might make up for your 2nd rounder sitting on the bench for years. If I'm being fair Ebron is probably a little overvalued at 10 but he makes Megatron nothing but scarier and I thought KVN should've been a 1st rounder so have to give them good marks even though it wasn't the flashiest draft compared to some of the teams with more high picks.
Nobody is talking about it but the Steelers had a great draft! They picked perfect players for their system and addressed all their areas of need.
Vegas posted over/under on number of games before PIT, BAL, CIN D-lines will tear Manziel's head off? Cle had good draft overall, but didn't improve neither OL nor WR. How Johnny Football is going to survive pass rush from div opponent idk
I think Green Bay got a steal in the fifth with Abbrederis. Think he's gonna be the next Jordy Nelson. Hard worker, runs great routes and decent speed. Can't believe we passed on him so many times
Isn't Abbrederis a fairly small guy? Jordy Nelson definitely isn't. I think they're totally different types of players, but I could be wrong. We got 3 WRs in the draft...I feel good about at least one panning out. They grabbed the guys that they wanted, plain and simple. If you miss on 3, that's pretty bad.
I've said this before, but Abbrederis has concussion issues. Remember Ryan Swope? No surprise we and a lot of other teams passed on him.
Sanders is 5 9 165 lbs and Abbrederis is 6 1 and 200 lbs running a 4.5 and regarded as one of the best route runners in the draft. Not knocking any of the guys we took over him in 4th and 5th because I am sure Idzik had a board and followed it and as another poster mentioned maybe concussion issues scared people off but everything I read about this guys attitude walking on,his humility and fact that he torched Roby really made me want him. Idzik hit home runs early in the draft but jury is still out on all of the offensive picks from last year
Kelvin Benjamin will be the best WR in the draft! As I have said from day 1! He and Cam are going to be magic!
Which reminds me: has Jimmy Garappolo had any off the field "issues" either while at Eastern Illinois or since being drafted by the Patriots, e.g. shooting investigations, knifing accusations, etc.?
Don't laugh, there was a multitude of TGG posters swearing this guy was going to be the best QB out of this draft. Since the Pats picked him? Nary a peep. _
