They saw special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica leave for the Redskins, and then replaced him with Thomas McGaughey, who held that same job at LSU. They also saw linebackers coach Brian VanGorder become Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator, and they replaced him with defensive quality control coach Bobby April III. This offseason was nothing like last offseason, when the Jets overhauled their coaching staff (highlighted by Marty Mornhinweg replacing Tony Sparano as offensive coordinator) and new general manager John Idzik shook up the scouting department. On Friday, the Jets announced the hiring of two new scouts: Johnathon Stigall and Seth Turner. They replace Aaron Glenn, a former Jets cornerback who became an assistant defensive backs coach for the Browns, and David Boller, whom the Jets fired. Glenn spent two seasons as a Jets scout – 2012 as a pro personnel scout and 2013 as a college area scout responsible for the Southwest and Rocky Mountain areas. Boller’s first and only season with the Jets was 2013. He was responsible for the West region. The Jets did not say whether Stigall and Turner will simply take over the regions vacated by Glenn and Boller, or whether the scouting staff will be otherwise reorganized. Stigall scouted the Midland and Southwest regions for the Browns for the past four years. Before that, he worked as a scout for the Eagles (2006-10), Dolphins (2000-06) and Bears (1999-2000). Turner spent the previous 13 years with Tampa Bay. He debuted in Tampa Bay’s pro personnel department in 2000 and became a college area scout in 2001. He has handled the Southeast, Midwest and Northwest regions. Idzik got his NFL start in Tampa Bay in 1993. He spent 11 years there, rising form pro personnel assistant to director of football administration to assistant general manager. His last season with Tampa Bay was 2003, so he overlapped with Turner for four seasons.

Hmm, which of our draft picks this year came from the college football West region? Hope he wasn't let go because they turned out to be much worse than he scouted...
I doubt it was that cut and dry, they probably just found someone that was more experienced and had better contacts. Don't go jumping off a cliff assuming that every draft pick the Jets got from the western region (all 2 of them) was a flop because they found a new scout. Edit: Actually now that I think about it, the more likely reason is that Turner worked for Idzik during his days at Tampa. Boller was probably just an experiment until he found a more permanent fit for the West.
