1) to cut a WR chosen in the 2nd rd that was considered a physically gifted but "raw" prospect before their 3rd season is kinda stupid. He's cheap, and year 3 usually is a big production jump for many guys. 2) To be honest, from what we've seen I'm not expecting much (unfortunately) 3) I hope I'm wrong about #2, as he would be a great pairing with Decker and Kerley
I think Shaq Evans will be our other starter. I watched him a lot at UCLA. He's a beast, runs good routes, and has very good hands.
Why do you think he fell to the 4th round if he is as good as your describe?? I'm not being an ass, I am genuinely asking you since you claim to have watched him a lot and probably know more about him than I do. He has to have some considerable weaknesses in his game to fall like he did. What are they?
It was an incredibly deep draft at WR. And Evans was not the most productive or speedy. I think he didn't impress with his measurable, 4.51 - 40 - 7.07 cones http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/shaq-evans?id=2543761
Ajitator just summed up his measurables, but I don't really care about them. Not saying he's going to be an all-pro, but by all accounts it seems like Evans is a guy that will make the tough catch. Very Cotchery-esque. He won't burn you, he won't bowl you over, but he'll make the third down grab in traffic for 7 yards when we need 6. And if that's what we got in the 4th round, I'm more than fine with it.
Inconsistent play on his part as well as shaky QB play. He doesn't do anything GREAT, but he does a lot of good things on the field. If he can become more consistent he could be our starter at #2. As Mo put it, Jerricho Cotchery is a fair comparison.
IMO Evans fell because he doesn't do anyone thing great, but he went as high as he did in the 4th because he does everything good. Good Hands, Solid Speed, Good Size, Solid Route Running, Solid quickness. I don't really get why so many Jet fans on here are saying that year 3 is a big production jump year for WR's, because that's not true at all. Out of the 24 1000 yard receivers last year the only guys that made the jump from being a sub 600 yard per year receiver to a 950+ yard receiver after year 2 were Demarius Thomas and Brian Hartline, both of which were given a huge improvment at QB. Everyone else seems to hit their stride in year 2. Gordon, Brown, Calvin, AJ, Jeffery, D-Jax, Hilton, Floyd, Torrey Smith. All guys that are considered to be extremely good receivers that all hit their stride in year 2, and thats not even close to the full list. All I am saying is I think people are changing the narative because Hill is our guy and he is heading into year 3. Last year I said that it was year 2 and at WR that is the year you either make the jump or you fail. He failed. Could year 3 be the year he figures it out. Sure, but the odds now are completely stacked against him.
If this team doesn't see a huge improvement at the QB position from what we've seen the past 2 seasons, then we're fucked
We upgraded at receiver with Decker and hopefully atleast one of the rookies, at TE with Amaro, and at RB with one of the best pass catching RB's in the NFL in Chris Johnson. Last years WR market was extremely weak in both free agency and the draft, and at the same time we didn't see any QB's make a big improvement at all. The only guy that made a big impact for his team was Allen for the Chargers and sure enough Rivers had the most improved season of any QB in the NFL with a MVP type season. Josh McCown who is a decade long backup came in with two top 10 receivers and looked like a top 10 QB. I'm not saying great QB play isn't important but when a receiver gets himself wide open, the majority of QB's in the NFL can get them the ball. Just look at Geno last year. When Kerley, Cummberland, Nelson, and Winslow were getting open he was getting them the ball. When no one was open he tried to force the ball into places it shouldn't go or he would take off and run, which a bunch of times led to fumbles. Sanchez needed to go because he was missing wide open receivers and a ton of his interceptions had to do with throwing the ball in the wrong place. That's the sign of bad QB play.
see this speaks volumes on the man. he obviously measured himself the first time without shoes on and this time he had shoes on. he is such a fucking dimwit, that he doesnt recall or realize that this is the reason he "grew" in the last month and a half.
See this speaks volumes on the man [ who posted this ] . He obviously views his own opinion so highly it doesn't matter if it's relevant or not. He's such a SOJF, that he doesn't even address his skills or the content of the article just blasts him for being to dumb to put his shoes on. Wish some "fans" on this board would grow a little bit.
Maybe it was the first time he has worn heels. With the way he's played physically since taking a few hits, I wouldn't be surprised if he started wearing heels.
Shouldn't you be spending more time learning to play WR instead of defending yourself on the internet?
I think he feel because his measurables were just ok. He's not 6'5''; he didn't run a 4.3, and his statistics, while respectable weren't off the charts. But when I watched him in games, he made a lot of tough catches in traffic, and got a lot of yards after the catch, and he appeared to be very difficult to tackle.
