Amazing. Here comes the media. Every tweet and every article about the "QB controversy" we apparently have. Don't these morons get tired of being so fuckin clueless.
I was only referring to the people that still bash the guy holding his first 2 years against him, acting like he hasn't improved substantially since then. You're right, though, I shouldn't have said "everybody." That's the big mistake I made. I should have said some folks, because I don't think the majority of fans hate Wilson like they used to. However, many still use any opportunity to take a jab. For example the huge over reaction after Dowling makes a single good play in OTAs, leading to the idea of trading Wilson. It's ludicrous, quite frankly. I'm happy for Dowling and hope he makes the team, but I'm happy with Wilson as slot corner. One single good play is no reason to attempt to trade the guy. It's kinda funny. My bad on using the poor terminology.
What would you say the percentage breakdown has been thus far between Smith and Vick working with 1's and 2's? From what little I'm hearing, Geno is getting the lion's share of work with 1's. Any idea?
I heard it described as 50/50 on NFLN yesterday, not sure how accurate that is, and there haven't been any real reports about it otherwise.
You know what I've noticed about all the media coverage so far....?? The supposed QB controversy...or rather the controversy surrounding whether it's a competition or not. FINALLY the circus has left town!!!! If all the media can do is continually "stir" the "Is Vick actually competing for the top spot?" Or, is it Geno's to lose...blah blah blah blah.... I can handle that kind of media crap all day long. Just pondering the thought. On a side note, I hope Hill really does "get it" this year! He is a real wild card in the WR discussion. If the light comes on and he is able to contribute like they thought he would then we could go from having an O.K. receiving corps to a real strength of the team! A light bulb over Hill's head means we can slot the rookies at the 3-5 spots and bring them along properly! Not to mention giving Geno/Vick THREE big ass targets to choose from!! You know, probably one of the top reasons positives for Hill to "get it" this year would be financial. He's up for a new contract and/or that 5th year extension and we could really have a decent talent for cheap. In fact, if he were to catch 50 - 70 balls this year I wouldn't exercise his option I would re-sign him to an extra 3 or 4 years at a discounted rate and then deal with him later if he really "turned it on." But, I get ahead of myself....it is ONLY OTA's. lol I am in the camp that says...keep Wilson. You can never have too many "good" DB's and I agree with the one poster that stated Wilson is a good slot corner...in fact, imho, he is probably one of the top 2 or 3 Slot CB's in the game. Doesn't really matter that he hasn't succeeded on the edge. With the pass happy league that the NFL is you can not underrate how important it is to have a capable slot guy. Only OTA's but I'm excited for the year. I think there are quite a few people, as usual, selling the Jets short. We may have "lucked" into our 8 & 8 record last year but we also "lucked" into a couple of those losses that shouldn't have been losses. My OTA "pick" this year has us going in the 10-6 to 11-5 ballpark. Let's get this season started!!!
I totally agree with your assessment. I really think this year we will move the chains on offense consistently enough to be significant contenders. When it's all well and done we will be better on both sides of the ball. Offensively we will morph into an explosive an unpredictable team. Fast, young, loaded to run and with big target receivers to make the needed gains. I couldn't give a rat's ass if we have a pure #1 receiver or not. No one even knows exactly what that means. I will be happy as a clam with 4 strong candidates all with #2 capability. Kerley, Decker, Amaro and yes Hill....with the rookies contributing some and Nelson in the wings. Can't wait till training camp. I wish the Jets a successful and above all an injury free season. May Hill have a break out season, May Geno mature and protect the ball. May the Jets secondary be the catalyst to cause the opposing receivers to grow little alligator arms. May we once again prove the media and the talking head experts completely wrong in their forecast. Cant wait for September.
Sirius/XM has a guy on Mad Dog radio at eleven at night who started his show with a rant about how "The Jets have done it again!" Lance Medow went on and on about what a circus they are and how they continue to be an embarrassment to the league, their fans and NY in general so I was expecting the worst - you know drugs, murder, perversion, arrests, suspensions and talking back to the teacher. It took five minutes before he revealed he was talking about the "Quarterback Controversy" and how Ryan, Vick and Morninwheg were not using the same precise terminology when discussing who was the number one QB. By the time he got there, I was relieved there was absolutely NOTHING going on, but somewhat pissed that this kid was trying so hard to be the second coming of Fat Mike. I guess we'll have to live with this - but if games are being won does any of it really matter?
Yup! Bingo on all points. It's amazing how hard the media tries to ensure the Jets are embroiled in some sort of circus or below board dealings...absolutely ANYTHING worthy of note. I'm not sure writers know what to do with themselves when there was absolutely nothing of controversy to write about when it comes to the Jets. They, ridiculously, spend a great deal of time and energy pimping out things like this "zero QB controversy" situation. I just roll my eyes and move on. Amazingly enough Rex is saying exactly what he should say...Marty as well. M. Vick is saying exactly what he should say and Geno is keeping quiet...doing exactly what he should do. In fact it's all unfolding exactly the way it should. Crazy insane....hell must have frozen over...there is no news coming out of Florham Park.
Just like any other business, the Jets are finally growing up. While it certainly took some time, it's a welcome change. Here's hoping it brings wins and a VLT home. Sent using Tapatalk
I think it's great that what we are seeing from the media right now is something most true Jet fans have known for years which is that the media is the true circus when it comes to the Jets. There is no QB controversy. Geno right now is the starting QB. If he looks terrible in training camp and the preseason and Vick looks amazing then the Jets would have to take a good look at what they want to do this year at the position, but that doesn't mean it's a controversy. That's just the status of the QB situation, and that holds true for alot of teams around the NFL right now. The Redskins, Bucs, Vikings, Browns, Raiders, Texans, Titans, and probebly a few more I am missing are all in a situation where they have a guy that they want and are planning on being the starter, but that guy does not have an absolute lock on the position. For every other team in the league the same thing holds true for multiple other positions on the team. In a weird way the Jets have actually become the modern "America's Team". Everyone seems to have a strong opinion when it comes to them and every move big, small, or non-existent is scrutinized to the fullest. The good news though is that none of it is having any effect on what Idzik does, while Tanny seemed to cater to it. Johnson also seems to like the media attention but I think he has reached the point where he just wants a winner, and if being low-key is the way that it is going to get done, then he is all in.
I agree the media is usually against us no matter what but I was watching NFL total access this morning with Dukes and Merriman and they raised the question "Are the Jets mishandling the QB situation?" and Merriman said that the only way you can mishandle a QB situation is by naming a starter in the offseason because there has to be some kind of competition or it negatively affects the team. They both basically said the same thing: That it's Geno's job to lose and if he does lose it Vick will take over but it is ultimately Geno's job until it isn't. Which I think is pretty obvious. I don't think it is a 50/50 competition and it shouldn't be.
