Now that Colon's knee is a genuine concern, if Incognito is cleared to play, should we consider signing him. He's obviously a bad character guy, but so are a lot of players on every NFL roster. He could be a decent stopgap starter until one of the younger linemen emerges.
Dennis Waszak Jr. #Jets RG Colon needs knee surgery, out 6 weeks (from @AP) http://t.co/E6oMxJRbvS 11:49PM EDT Doesn't sound that serious. On Topic Richy is a dirty backyard kick you in the nuts lineman and if he could join the team with out bringing issues to the locker room. Id love him here. In reality he would probably bring some disruption to our locker room and more specifically the Oline.
I would rather see Incognito get pushed in front of a bus than ever wear a Jets uniform. Have always hated him.
Honestly I think this pushes the young guys a bit more, and should give the Jets a better idea of what they have heading into training camp. Willie is back for training camp with a couple of weeks to spare for working on getting into shape. Obviously you would prefer zero injuries, but this just means that the first year guys and the rookies get more reps in OTA's.
Exactly! The circus has FINALLY LEFT TOWN! Can we keep it that way? At least for a season or two??? Can we try "peace and quiet" just once?
You know, I said that also, but the more I read, the more I don't think that's true. There have been a number of teams that have said they would take a look at him. I think a desperate team would pull the trigger and take the gamble. I just don't think that will happen for a little while.
I don't think the Jets locker room is strong enough to contain a malcontent like Incognito. Keep him away from the Jets.
The Jets don't want the officials looking at them any closer than they will be already. Nothing like signing a "dirty" offensive lineman and having your rookie safety get caught in the blowback as the flags start flying against the Dirty Jets next season.
No thanks to Incognito. He's got baggage, and his on-the-field production would not merit picking up his impact on the locker room (and team dynamics). Further, given the Colon will be back and the number of picks we've invested in the line, there's no reason to pick up this particular player.
Since this will probably get moved to the NFL Forum thought I would throw this in here. Looks like the Phins are replacing Incognito with some other high character players. http://nfl.si.com/2014/05/20/miami-dolphins-udfa-signees-kicked-off-college-teams/ I know they may end up just being camp fodder but still shows a certain mindset.
In 2010 he was ranked in the top twenty in the NFL for pass blocking efficiency by Pro Football Focus. In 2011, he allowed a total of 1.5 sacks over 15 games played In 2012 he played in his first Pro Bowl. Plays effectively at both guard positions as well as center. Has a long history of anger management issues both on and off the field Known as one of the dirtiest players in the league Very well liked by most of his teammates Anyone who thinks he won't eventually get signed by a team that is in need of help on the O-line is kidding themselves and, at the veteran's minimum, he'd be a bargain.
What Incognito did was egregious; but if Vick can have a second act after what he got caught doing, I think this guy may get another shot.
The difference is that Vick's stuff was not football related, not locker room related, and not race related. Richie Incognito screamed racial slurs at a teammate, and bullied him for over a year to the point where he was literally suicidal. Think about that. Incognito has shown no remorse, and instead casts himself as the victim. This shows that he has very little integrity, and cannot take responsibility for his actions. Vick, on the other hand, did horrible things to animals, got caught, but then took responsibility. He got humble. He kept quiet and just focused on doing the right things. That's a major difference between him and Incognito. Incognito would be a disaster for the locker room, and would go against the culture that Idzik is trying to instill. Whatever the extent of the right guard problem turns out to be, Richie Incognito is not the answer.
