AJ teamed with a good QB is a difference maker especially in a balanced offense where the D has to think about who to give safety help to etc. That's a different conversation then teaming him with a QB that hasn't shown the ability to read defenses or run through his progressions and one that has made bone headed plays again and again ala nacho. What help are you really giving Geno? You could team him with AJ, megatron, Jerry Rice in his prime and fill out the receiving corp with hall of fame players in their prime and it still comes down to can Geno read the D or not and can he go through his progressions or not, can he make smart plays. Until he's capable of doing that the difference between what they have now and bringing in AJ is marginal at best and not worth it until they have a proven QB... a good QB comes first before high ticket receivers.
What help are you giving Geno by giving him one of the best receivers in the past decade? I get it, you don't like Geno, I'm not a big fan myself. But those reads become easier when you know which receivers are getting safety help, AJ would change the entire way teams gameplan the Jets offense and it would also open the running game up in a big way, creating that balance you are talking about. The tone of your post kind of sounds like you don't ever think Geno will end up achieving this lofty level of "good QB". I'm not counting him out yet, I'd like to see what he can do with an actual receiving corps and not the patchwork mess we had last season. Your argument that it would make a marginal difference bringing Johnson in just makes zero sense.
Draft picks and building the team for the long term is more valuable at this point. Once the Jets win or come close to winning a Super Bowl then a move like this would be worth it... but for now, continue to build the team for the long run.
Then teams should draft a QB and just give him a sorry ass WR core and don't bring in any good/great wide outs to help him? Until he proves he a good QB?
With respect to the part in bold, I think the problem from the Texan's end is that they would not be offered (let alone receive) equal value for him.
I don't think you meant to answer yes, quite frankly. YOu are saying Idzik would not sign Johnson for reasons that do not necessarily have an aversion, heh, to having a better team this year. It really is not an either/or choice, you know.
AJ doesn't bring a marked difference if you have a QB that can't read defenses, cant read progressions etc. Stupid is as stupid does and Geno made every Nacho mistake in the book last year. Right now Geno is a work in progress, all we know at this time is that he has a better arm than Nacho but as a player he's no better than him, possibly worse. The fact you think AJ makes a huge difference with Geno as QB is what makes no sense. With an established NFL quality QB definitely, with Geno not until he proves himself. If Geno takes that next step great I'd be very happy but we haven't seen it yet and after spending $35mm on Decker why would they want to spend $11/yr or likely more on AJ unless they have themselves a proven QB. That's just wishful thinking and that's want gets GM's fired. What helps Geno best isn't another WR, its lots and lots and lots of repetition, great coaching an experienced backup as a mentor and a solid O line that won't give him happy feet. Time will tell with him.. hopefully he steps up and becomes an NFL quality QB.
Who said that? Why would that be your assumption? This isn't the Tanny regime. Idzik brought in talent, they got Eric Decker (probably over-paid for him but he's a clear upgrade), they brought in Chris Johnson to create a top 5 caliber backfield that will allow Geno to grow slowly while the backs carry the load, they drafted Amaro, Saunders, Evans, Enunwa, signed Ford (for whatever they see in him) etc.
Geno will get those repetitions and coaching, already has the experienced backup and mentor, although the solid Oline isn't guaranteed. None of that has a damn thing to do with capitalizing on available talent for the offense. I've looked back through your argument in this thread and you're all over the place with it. First you started with Geno (then backpedaled), then you tried to say that AJ wouldn't be a fit for WCO (wrong), now you're talking about money/cap room (something the Jets have a lot of). Stupid is as stupid posts, too, I guess. Here, I'll make an intelligent argument against the idea of trading for Johnson, since you're having a spot of trouble. Johnson's current contract has salary years ranging from 14-16 million in terms of cap hit - he would be difficult to sign to a new deal that takes his age into consideration without signing him to a long enough contract to accommodate the amount of guaranteed money that would convince him to lower his salary average. The Jets could use that money to lock up existing talent like Mo Wilkerson, Damon Harrison, and restructure Mangold and Ferguson to make room in future years. Make sure you know what you're talking about before you start telling other people they don't.
So every time somebody wants the Jets to bring in a big name player people want to say this isn't Tanny regime? People need to learn we are not in rebuilding mode. If we was Rex would had been fired, plus a team that goes 8-8 does not go into rebuild mode unless they are a old team. If I'm not mistaken we was the 3rd youngest team in league last season. Also if your going to sign a backup QB to 5mil there nothing wrong with trying to get a WR at 11mil. That will come in and be your best WR by far and open the running game even more. Plus AJ would not only help Geno, but also would help a hell of a lot the WR's we just drafted.
You need to read.. its fundamental. I never backpedaled on Geno. Right now he stinks, he's Nacho II. Does that change? No idea but you don't go out and get an AJ to team up with Geno in his current state. What Idzik did was the proper thing, they drafted players and they signed a few players to upgrade the position. If Geno picks it up then they upgrade again if needed, if not well they have a QB mess. AJ with Geno is a WCO is NOT a good fit. At this time Geno isn't accurate enough, the WCO is predicated on timing and accuracy.. he has neither and hasn't proven himself to be even a marginal NFL caliber QB. You don't sign up a huge AJ like contract under those circumstances. And as far as the O line goes, Ferguson and Mangold will need replacements drafted in then next few years, they'll need cap room to do that as well, not just restructuring. Even if Geno does improve there's no way of knowing if he'll succeed in the WCO. Idzik did what he had to do in order to get ready for the WCO, they drafted Saunders and Evans to go along with Kerley, smaller speedy guys that catch passes in stride. They drafted Amaro to help in the passing game and also clear space for the small receivers to operate. What he didn't do was shoot his load signing a high profile high priced guy that won't make the difference at this time. Dude you have no clue.. I'm not wasting any more time with this. Take your head out of your ass and badger someone else. You think Geno is all that, you think AJ is the second coming for this team.. great, you're entitled to your OPINION.. you're opinion isn't fact and its no better than mine or anyone else's on this site so STFU and crawl back under your rock.
The very basic things you can know about the WCO is that it is based on timing and accuracy. That's like football kindergarten. And yes, it's time for your cookies and milk. The idea that a receiver that Andre Johnson wouldn't be able to operate in one is moronic. A receiver with his skills can operate successfully in any offense. Apparently you never saw Terrell Owens play in San Francisco, lighting the world on fire in a Walsh WCO. (here's a clue: they played at the exact same height and weight) (clue #2 - hmmmm, who else runs a Walsh-style WCO?) Neither of us has any idea of what level of improvement Smith is at this point. You're just so sure that he isn't going to be anywhere close to "good", whatever the fuck that equates to. It's obvious by the way you constantly compare him to Sanchez. Now run along, turd, because it's obvious that you really fucking suck at this.
