Not sure what the police were supposed to do about it, I assume the video where he talked about killing people was not one of the ones he uploaded previously. Also shows what a joke psychiatry is that they couldn't see a walking red flag like this kid coming. There's no way he was "fooling" anyone either, 10 seconds into a conversation with the kid and I'm sure he'd be rambling about his obsession, not a chance he was high functioning.
He legally owned the guns (registered in his name) and his parents were worried enough about his mental health to call the police. Seems like the poster child for possible intervention with a psycho who owns guns to me.
Where is the documentation of his mental illness before this though? I mean, how was he even able to legally buy a gun, surely he would've failed the background check? That being said, he also stabbed 3 people to death so I don't really think access to guns is the issue here.
I agree that the gun wasn't the problem but I personally would prefer that clearly mentally unstable people don't have guns. You also cannot do a drive by stabbing so there's that. I also want to reiterate that I'm generally anti gun control and am a big 2A supporter and nra member. According to the forbes article he was seeing multiple therapists and was considered a highly functional aspergers patient. I'm not familiar with aspergers but it seems this guy was obviously nuts and his patents and doctors probably knew it.
