Everything was all good until we moved him out of his respectable position and put all the pressure of being a #1 WR when he's a clear cut #2 or slot option. The numbers were good, we were winning. Oh well he's gone now. Although i know Decker wont be anything like holmes attitude wise and as a teammate, i hope we dont make this same mistake taking him out of his respectable position. I dont think Decker will prosper at the #1 spot, but i hope he does.
LMAO! I love when people completely ignore an argument and resort to personal insults and non-sequiturs. Which grammar school level debating class taught you that was an effective rebuttal method? I don't want to go through these arguments again, it's 2014, not 2012, and people just hate Holmes so much they can't respond other than to insult people that support him. It ain't even worth it. This isn't an exact science. It's football drama and gossip. Some people buy into the media hype and some don't. Stop acting like your personal beliefs about and bias against Holmes is absolute fact, or that smear articles written about Holmes are all true because Cimini uses the phrases "mini meltdown" or Mehta posts a made up quote. It's simple cause and effect, apparently another class you didn't pay attention in. The whole "cancer" thing is only strummed up constantly because his production has been poor. If he had come back from the injury and tore it up, even you would be singing his praises and the 2011 character issues would mysteriously vanish instead of being rehashed by every butthurt fan every time the guy's name is mentioned. Just sayin.
Holmes is not the #1 WR as he needs to be #2. That is to his suiting. Not having all the pressure on him!
James Harrison, Santonio Holmes want to return to Pittsburgh Posted by Mike Florio on May 22, 2014, 9:25 PM EDT Getty Images Super Bowl XLIII featured a pair of memorable touchdowns at the end of each half. One came on a 100-interception return as the second quarter expired. The other came near the end of regulation in the corner of an end zone at Raymond James Stadium. The two players responsible for those scores no longer play for the Steelers. But they apparently want to return. Cornerback Ike Taylor said recent on his TribLive Radio show that linebacker James Harrison and receiver Santonio Holmes would like to rejoin the team. “It’s for sure the both of them want to come back,” Taylor said. “I’ve talked to both of them.” Harrison spent 2013 with the Bengals. Holmes was traded to the Jets in 2010 while facing a four-game suspension for violating the substance-abuse policy. “[Harrison] still wants to play football, and of course his first option would be Pittsburgh,” Taylor said. “He came over to my house, and when he shook my hand, his hand felt like a brick. I told [him] he can’t shake my hand like that anymore. He’s probably in the best shape of his life. Right now he looks like the Hulk. He’s been banged up, and he feels he has something to prove.” The Steelers have a need at receiver, with Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, and Jerricho Cotchery all leaving via free agency in the last 15 months. With no one else pouncing on the players, the Steelers apparently could have them if they want them. Cheap.
I can't believe this thread even has legs still. Holmes was bad for us or a majority of the time he was here. It's not all his fault but when you factor in his health, attitude, age and declining production, it's painfully obvious why he's jobless right now. And hopefully when he does land a job it's not with us. I doubt it will be but either way that ship has sailed. No need for that kind of distraction. We are building a roster full of anti-Santonio's. Let's keep it that way.
Hey I call BS here. No one here comes close to the junc obsession with Sanchez. All Barcs has done is say that Holmes haters such as yourself have no real evidence that he was a locker room cancer. So instead of coming up with such evidence, you go to a personal attack. I think that is rather childish of you.
It's definitely the skill level and the likely decline moving forward. As you say if Holmes could play at a high level he'd be signed by somebody by now.
I don't pretend to be an expert of Decker's play for Denver, but the Broncos I think it is fair to say did not rely on strict roles for their starting wideouts. The point is I really doubt using him here and there in a #1 role is going to undermine his play. I think that's too rigid a view of Decker's history.
Keeping Holmes isn't a money thing, he's not going to command a lot. And I don't know if he is a "cancer" per say, that is a pretty serious word to describe a football player. But it seems pretty clear he wasn't a locker room leader, and may not have been the best teammate. Idzik seems pretty intent on bringing in high quality players, which is probably why he drafted 5 team captains this year. Holmes more than likely doesn't fit that mold. He also isn't that productive. Seems like a no brainer to let him go.
I think they weren't assigned roles until tebow left. It was a bunch of slightly successful organized chaos lol. But in the Peyton era he was def their #2.
That's the majority of Jets fans every time Santonio Holmes name comes up. I'm not trying to defend what happened near the end of 2011, and I'm not advocating for his return. The ship has sailed. I just don't think the bashing is necessary when the dude helped deliver us our biggest playoff win in recent history. It seems most of you guys would have been happier if we never got Holmes and the Pats beat us that year and went on to win another superbowl, or worse we don't even make the playoffs and as a result do not get Wilkerson. It's all connected. You can't change the past, so bitching about it constantly is pointless.
