i don't think he's too bummed out missing ota's, mini's, training camp, pre-season. etc. He'll be an injury pick up or some team has him penciled in game #2 to avoid paying him all season. Probably similar to Ed Reede.
At the time I wanted us to resign Holmes. But after the Decker signing and drafting the two 4th round rookies I'm glad we never made him an offer. The foot injury essentially ended his career. Nobody is interested in signing him even at the vet min. I wonder how this whole thing would've played out had he not gotten injured. It would've been hard for Idzik to cut the best receiver on the team (which he would have been had he not gotten injured). We could've easily absorbed his cap number with the room we have this season, so that would've been a hard sell considering how thin we were (are?) at the wr position. But things worked out the way they did and we've moved on. I wish him luck with whatever he wants to do in this next phase of his life. Now we just have to hope we hit on one or both of our 4th round receivers. Hopefully Shaq can develop into a solid #2 possession receiver, and Saunders could be Kerley's replacement in the slot. I could see Idzik letting Kerley walk if Saunders looks promising to save money and to get a comp draft pick, especially if Kerley is looking for a big pay day.
I think it is funny that some are saying he was unfairly criticized or "It could be argued that in almost every situation that he thought he was doing the right thing." Not sure how publicly calling out the o-line was doing the right thing and when teammates call you a cancer or you complain an entire game then it would seem the criticism is warranted. I wouldn't want him back at $100K a year, let alone vet. minimum.
Calling OL out in public is the right thing? What the fuck are they smoking? Pass the joint for crying out loud. That was not how I was taught. [I was taught to keep the dirty laundry list IN HOUSE. In short: Whatever happens in the mile STAYS in the mile. Calling the OL out in public? Because he's a captain? Give me a fucking break for Christ's sake. That's a poor leadership any way you cut it]
Our O-line was the biggest joke in the league, and was the biggest reason the jets fell apart. It'd piss me off too if I was killing myself running great routs while my QB was laying on his back play after play after play after game after game after...... Actually you gotta give him some credit for caring enough and getting pissed off enough to finally say something. As for "he should have kept in indoors" well he probably did for a long time, until he got the 'cancer' moniker.
That is the monster you deal with. It took me almost the entire career of Peyton Manning to 'let go' of his public vent over his OL. ONCE he does it and it goes for THAT long. Tone? You can say, fuck him. Regardless of how bad the OL are, you just cannot make them look bad in public. They are YOUR co-workers after all. On top of that, you cannot expect to win the Kentucky Derby on a fucking DONKEY. WFH was less than a maimed donkey. Calling them out would have done WONDERS for that OL that couldn't handle the pass rush on its good day anyway. Wake the hell up. That is not happening either.
Aren't there Compensation Pick implications if you sign a player before June 1st? Maybe other teams are waiting until June 1st.
I'm pretty sure that at least 95% of the fan base agreed about the oline that year, most notably Wayne Hunter. That guy combined with Ferguson having his worst year as a pro, cost us more games than Holmes ever has during any stretch of time on the Jets. Sanchez got injured that year after repeated hits and sacks, which eventually led to his shoulder (or neck) stinger in the Broncos game, which he seemed to never recover from that year and might have essentially ended Sanchez's career, because after that, every time he got hit his accuracy would go down the shitter for the rest of the game. This continued into 2012. He turned into Mark "happy feet" Sanchez, and never really seemed to recover. I don't know if it was a mental thing from taking so many hits and being worried or if it was more physical pain but the Mark Sanchez that could have taken this team into the future died halfway through 2011. Prior to that, he was putting up semi decent stats. Holmes had every right to be pissed off. The weird thing is that the fans all agreed and bashed and badmouthed Hunter constantly, then Holmes does it and everyone gets up in arms about it. The guy was right and it cracks me up how fans go on this public website and bash players to the ends of the earth but then the second anybody on the team says the exact same thing and the fans all turn on him. Yeah, Holmes could have done a better job keeping it in house that year, but his criticisms were dead on accurate. I think he felt that as captain he should say something, since it essentially ruined our chance at the playoffs that year. Maybe he was trying to motivate them? Either way it didn't really work and the bad oline play continued until Holmes blew up in that Dolphins game. I don't recall any team mates of his calling him a cancer. Could you please source that one for me? I've only heard butthurt fans and media pundits actually suggest that he is a cancer. Since the end of 2011, Holmes has not had any character issues.
Yeah, people are really jumping the gun, saying that nobody wants him because he hasn't been signed yet. There are definitely other receivers out there that haven't been signed yet. Why not at least wait until training camp before making such silly proclamations.
You mean silly proclamations like "I will indeed be laughing when he's still on the roster next year and everybody's butt hurt about it."?
As I said, I think the FO probably thinks he does not have the Actually I think the Jets did win three games in a row after calling out the OL. But I tend to agree with you on Holmes.
It could have been the worst O Line in history and Holmes would have still been wrong for calling them out in public. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...ncer-dealing-10-year-old-blog-entry-1.1629683 "Jets player on Santonio Holmes: 'He's a cancer. It's like dealing with a 10 year old."
Not for the Jets, But for other teams that lost people via FA, They would give up their right to a compensatory pick if they replaced that departing FA with another vet. ( I think that's what he was trying to say )
Not for the Jets. But the free agents that a team signs has an affect on compensation picks. But if a FA is signed after June 1st (I believe) than it has no affect on their compensation pick.
