Got reserved seats for the 12 noon show. IMAX & 3D for me and wifey who happens to be a Godzilla fan herself.
Saw it last night with the GF. Absolutely loved it. I thought it was a little boring st first but right when I thought that it picked up. Overall, I enjoyed it.
If there's a template to follow regarding a franchise reboot, this movie would be it. Loved the movie. Lots of thrills and the EFX's were just great. This movie is as far from the 1998 movie as Gone with the Wind is from a home video. Great acting, great plot. Pretty much stayed close to the 1954 Original although they moved the action from Tokyo to San Francisco. The 3D/IMAX combo was great as well. We had a Fandango gift card so we had half the price paid for going in. If there was anything after the credits, we didn't stay for it. It did lay the foundation for a sequel should they choose to make one. It also kinda had a bit of a transformer feel to it too when you think about the scale between Godzilla and Humans. I have to change my opinion about one thing. That was NOT Rodan flying in. New monsters entirely. If you don't have the cash for the IMAX, go see the 3D version and put the extra back in your wallet. I grew up on Godzilla and yanno what? I'm a fan again and will be at the sequel if and when they make it. I will also spend the cash on the BluRay when it comes out. Go See It!!!
Will definitely spend the money on the Blu Ray. Invest in the app Run Pee. Great for you and your significant other. It tells you at what times of every movie to use the restroom and how long you have. It goes into detail of what you missed while you were gone. They purposely input the best times to leave so you don't miss anything important. Also tells you if there is anything after the credits. Worth the $1 it costs. I've used it every single time I've gone to the movies. Bad ass app. Run Pee
True lol But it does tell you if there is anything after the credits. Avoids the five minute wait for nothing.
That's huge too. I'll be downloading that app today. The trailers showed we movie lovers are in for a great summer of moviegoing.
It is hard to call the new Godzilla movie a great film, but it is about the best interpretation of the source material one could hope for. It is beautifully made and effectively uses a less-is-more approach with the big G. The average moviegoer will think it is "OK", but fans of the Godzilla franchise (like me) will love it.
Ok I'm in the minority,,,,,huge Godzilla fan here,,,,,years ago I could not wait for Godzilla week on the 4 30 movie,,,,,,this said I liked it,,,,,,did not love it,,,,,,without giving anything away I thought it dragged at times with the story line. I thought it started out really well, the beginning of the movie was really good and realize we are talking monster movie here but I would of rather of seen more of the monsters and less of the plot,,,,,,,,it was as if moving forward 15 years lasted 15 years,,,,,,lol. As I said I liked it,,,,and my kid liked it but I gotta be honest,,it is not that I was disappointed but it could have been better. Maybe my expectations were too high,,,,,,,,,,,,this was kind of like when I waited for planet of the apes to be redone and when it came out I felt the same way,,,just my two cents
I know I'm nitpicking here, but this "small" thing bothers me... The premise is that those two types have long predator-prey relationship, right? Well, if this is the case there are several things that just don't make sense. After killing first bad guy, why the zilla starts to immediately fight the second? If it's a predator thing, it should start eating the damn thing instead. Opposable thumbs, really? The good guy looks too intelligent, like an overgrown protection dog. Why does this thing protects the humans? They shoot it with everything they got, but instead of just flipping over those ships and tanks the animal decides to graciously avoid them because sparing human lives is naturally a very big priority for 300 million yrs old monster. What killed me is when all said and done the good guy goes back home while avoiding further damage to buildings. It's amazing how deep his understanding of human values is. Almost forgot.... If the good guy feeds on radiation, why is there predator/prey relationship in the first place?
Yes, you're nitpicking. I bet you would have a field day with any and all of the original Godzilla movies.
