I can't believe I'm the only vote for baseball. Are you kidding me? I thought this would be a run away.People would never consider me a baseball fan, but theres nothing better than taking in a baseball game in person. Why it's best: -Summer time weather -Relaxing pace, usually a relaxing crowd (no fights/bullshit like at other sports games) -Way, way cheaper than any other sport in person -Usually more women there: did I mention the summer weather? aka. skimpy clothing and eye candy -It has better aesthetics overall, the diamond makes for better field views and the real grass! you don't see that anymore in sports, and in some big city stadiums that patch of grass might be the only patch for miles -The chance to see something historic exists in every given night (perfect game, no-hitter, etc.) That doesn't really exists in every single regular season game in any other sport. The only thing it has against it is it's poor rain out policy. It's still a no contest that baseball is the best in person sport, but if they made it more fan friendly with their weather policy (ie. postponing games earlier when EVERYONE knows it's going to rain instead of gutting it out for a couple innings and then calling it) the experience would be even better. Fortunately they are getting better about that. It's no contest guys!
I would have to see the NFL is the most exciting in person.. Followed closely by Hockey... The atmosphere in an NFL stadium is unrivaled.
But it's boring as fuck. If I'm going somewhere to take in the nice summer weather, I'm going hiking somewhere that has a nice view. Relaxing pace? - more like boring pace Cheaper - okay sure but there are more games so it adds up if you have season tickets More women? - I don't know about that. I see tons of women going to NFL games these days, especially the early months. Real grass? That matters when watching a sport? And that's just nonsense. There is a chance to witness history in any sports game. Records are there to be broken. First time things happen. There's always a chance for that stuff. If I go to a baseball game and it's a nohitter or perfect game, I'm pissed because that's boring as fuck and I wasted my afternoon watching nothing. Why is a no hitter so much more significant than somebody breaking a scoring record in the NFL NBA or NHL?
While I think hockey is more exciting to watch in person, I' right with you on these points as to why baseball is number 2 for me. _
Heh this is why baseball isn't on my list. Most of what you listed isn't the sport. I can get the same by throwing the game on my TV, grilling some burgers outside, and inviting friends over. Me at a baseball game with friends is the same as me at home watching a baseball game with friends. That's why I don't have the experience as very high. Now if I can get really good seats at baseball game, maybe that will change what I think, but I haven't had that opportunity. Usually I'm far away from the plate/field.
I guess it's also partly the nostalgia thing for me, being in the ball park--a different feel than any of the other sports, seeing that grass for that first instant as you walk through that tunnel to the seats, that can't be duplicated in my back yard while grilling. And it's not something I'd want to do more than once every couple of weeks, whereas I don't miss a Jet game and I'll go to at least 1-2 away games every year--but football is still a better TV sport IMHO. Plus I usually have really good seats so the game experience is right there for me. I guess the question comes down--for me--as to what's a better experience and I gotta give that to baseball. Hockey best sport to WATCH live, baseball best to enjoy live. _
it's not the same w/ the open concourses of the new Stadiums though. in the old Yankee Stadium seeing the green grass after walking up the tunnel was amazing.
Definitely not the same but that was EXACTLY the feel everytime I went to Shea. Was one of my favorite and most anticipated parts--that first sight of the green grass. I can literally see it in my minds eye as if I was a little kid. _
I like your last sentence a lot. For watching I have hockey/basketball at the top. But for enjoyment I agree baseball is #1. It's a great day and experience, but to watch the game I really get nothing more out of it if it's a normal game.
That's why they call baseball America's national past time, not sport. You pretty much just go there to enjoy nice weather, beer, ballpark weiners and cracker jacks. All shit you can do without the baseball game in the background.
Football/Hockey Both on the field and in the stands... Football wins by tailgate default! Baseball (How can one not love the sun, Summer etc...) Basketball ...Almost unwatchable now.. Why is NASCAR not an option? oh..you said sport...my bad.
There are a million games in baseball so the game itself is kind of in the background during the reg season but in postseason where every pitch matters the game is great to see live. Football is my favorite b/c pretty much every game means something and there is much more passion than watching one of the other sports where there are 8o+ to 160+ games. I also love being able to see the entire field live where you can watch specific matchups and see plays develop.
Women at hockey games? I've been to a few Bruins games in the past couple years and if there is a homelier lot of humanity collected in one place, I personally don't ever want to see it.
Postseason anything is great to see live. Every sport jumps, although for me playoff hockey is such a huge jump it keeps the lead for live sport.
I think you gain the least by going to football live. These days, there are SO MANY cameras at football games, that you never miss anything on a replay from anywhere on the field.
I think playoff hockey is so overrated, it's as exciting as hockey can be but give me a good reg season football game or a playoff MLB or NBA game over playoff hockey any day.
I couldn't disagree w/ you more. I think you gain the most by seeing an NFL game live. it's great watching on TV but as great as that is they can't show you everything you see watching it live.
Yeah it's a very personal question. It depends on each individuals views. For me, I can watch any NFL, NBA, or NHL playoff game. But only do NHL and NBA playoff games keep on the edge of my seat when my team isn't involved. I can't watch any MLB playoff game. I stick to the Yankees only and maybe the final inning or extras of other games if nothing else is on. I think it's the stop and go nature of NHL and NBA. You see more continuos action in NHL more so than the other 3 sports. Then more continuos in the NBA than MLB or NFL. So being there, I feel more engaged with the games that are more continuous in nature. That's just me though.
