Pretty dumb that Idzik kept all these picks

Regardless it is stupid--Only about 8 of these 12 picks are making the team. Most of the picks after Amaro were projected to be UDFA anyway.

Lee, Cooks, Moncrief, Adams, Matthews, Robinson, Landry, Richardson, Latimer - to not come away with any of these wr's in this draft is ridiculous!

My thinking all along was to give Idzik the benefit of the doubt and just watch what he can do with all the picks he had. I didn't really think it out that much because looking back on it now, 9 of the picks were today. I mean, what could really do with the picks? What did you guys want him to do? You cant trade the comp picks so what value did you really have.

Trade a couple 6th round picks to go where? It was, from the beginning, overrated to brag about how many picks we had. Would much rather have had 9 picks and lets say 3 3rd round picks and 3 4th round picks....duh..of course. Was listening to a guy on the radio talking about how if the Jets have 7 guys on the roster this year, he did well. Well then, it would have been better to have just 7 picks all 5 and higher I would guess?

I dont know...it just played games with my head and looking back at it now, unless he really struck goal with one of the 4ths and one of the 6ths, this draft and all the picks was a bunch of hype. For the most part, if it makes our special teams much better...and 1 of the receivers delivers in a big way..its a success.

Love the safety...love the tight end....the rest are a roll of the dice.

If 7-8 of 12 picks make the roster, it means they earned their place on the roster. We could only trade away a 5th a 6th and a 7th of all of our late round picks, and it's doubtful a team would have accepted all three for a 3rd or 4th. That means we would have thrown in 1, maybe 2 late rounders to move up with a 3rd or 4th rounder we already had. In reality, the only way to gain something truly significant in a trade up would be to sacrifice one of our better 4th round picks and our best 6th round pick, and that probably would have been enough to move us around 12-13 spots in the 3rd round (based off the other trades in the draft this year). So who exactly would we have moved up for? If we really liked Stanley Jean-Baptiste that much better than McDougle, I suppose you could make a case for it but personally I'd rather have the extra 4th rounder. Don't let the dude on the radio who probably doesn't really know that much about trade value make it seem like Idzik missed out. Bashing Idzik is just the popular thing to do. To trade up far enough to get Marqise Lee we probably would have had to give up our best 4th and probably our 5th round pick, and I really don't think Lee is that much better than Amaro.

No no..not bashing him at all. My only point is that the whole 12 pick thing was overrated in MY mind. One of the huge weaknesses this team had last year and its rarely talked about is special teams. They were horrible. Idzik made some picks that could be very useful there.

Bottom line is once you went safety with the 18th, the Idzik haters and those dying for a receiver would never be pacified. Wasnt happening. To walk into game 1 this year and believe our receivers would be grade A after what our roster looked like the past few years was impossible. Only time will tell about this draft but I have no problem whatsoever how he handled this draft. None.

The only problem I have with Idzik right now is is that if with all the money the Jets have, we signed one quality CB and then adding Pryor, this would have made our secondary decent at least, right off the bat.

But we didnt...and that position is the one position that MIGHT come back to haunt us. Now if Idzik somehow pulls a rabbit out of the hat before the middle of August and adds a really solid guy back there, then watch out...he really needs to do something there.

Other then that? I have zero complaints with what he has done..none. So far...steady as they go....pretty impressed.

In response to the CB issue, I think McDougle could end up being a real steal. Specifically, the only knock on his measurables is that he is 5'10", but he has starter speed, starter vertical leap, starter everything really. Adding Pryor helps the secondary a lot, and I can see a situation where Patterson starts the season but ends up getting injured as he has in almost every season so far, and McDougle steps in and pleasantly surprises us all. He hasn't been able to gain a lot of strength this offseason because of the major shoulder injury, but I'd love to see what he can do with a pro strength and conditioning program in Florham Park. I'm not selling the farm for McDougle, but don't be surprised if he's a solid starting CB before too long.

I thought that it was crazy, with all those picks to not move up and grab a WR. We could have done so much better it seems.

All draft picks are a crap shoot, late round picks are a lottery and you have to be in it to win it.

I really wish the guys on that roster were free of exposure to waivers for the first year. They should really think about changing that. If they want a developmental redshirt squad to produce better players it would be good to make it a safe move for the teams at the end of camp.

I was being sarcastic about the practice squad - I get that guys need to clear waivers before going there though.

Oh, I know, I was just using your post to point out that the PS mechanics are faulty. The next CBA should make the first year on the PS a free move. Give the players on the PS higher wages or more benefits as the trade off.

if the players drafted in those late rounds have so little chance of making the team, why would another team trade out of a better draft position and away from a player that will make the team to trade back into a position to get players that won't make their team.

    your reasoning defeats your premise.

But he's right. If you get 3 keepers out of any draft you've done well. By keepers I mean still on the team 3 years later.

I suspect more will make it - maybe as many as 10 of them. The jets have a real lack of depth at positions throughout the roster (other than DL). I think their backup LBs and Safeties are very weak and, since they're starting position players at WR and TE were weak then the players behind them are even weaker. Even if some of these guys don't make it (and 6th and 7th rounders often dont), since you don't know who will turn into an NFL player and who won't you want to have as many of them as possible. This is how you build depth on a roster and improve your special teams.

I'm OK with Idzik keeping all his picks this year. In a future year where the Jets have a lot more depth, then maybe its a mistake. This year, it was the right thing to do.

No you haven't done well with 3 keepers. You've broken even at best. If you got 3 stars you've done well.

The Jets essentially got 2 first round talents. They also needed to rebuild their depth, which Tannenbaum depleted by trading away picks and taking dumb chances in the draft and other dumb draft moves, such as drafting Sanchez's pal in the seventh round to make their "star" QB happy.
